Story
Taking out hellish creatures - not a problem. Armed with blessed silver hollow-points and the ability to manipulate magick, he's ready for anything - except betrayal he never saw coming…Deacon Chalk knows the biggest danger in fighting monsters is becoming one. Just another day at the office for your friendly neighborhood occult bounty hunter. If keeping three helpless were-dog children safe means battling a malevolent trio of witches by any means necessary, so be it. If that means partnering with a ruthless government agent to stay one step ahead of the allies and friends he must now suspect, he's not going to cry about it.

Story
He hasn't met a monster yet that could give him a scare. With ice in his veins, silver hollow-points in his chambers, and an innate ability to rise from the dead, what's to fear? The answer may be something he doesn't want to face… Deacon Chalk normally has no trouble telling innocent victims from real monsters. So protecting an abused pregnant were-dog is a no-brainer…until a vicious lycanthrope leader and his brotherhood target Deacon, other shape-shifters, and any humans in their way.

Publisher's Summary
Monsters now whisper his name in fear. None live after crossing him. But being the most kick ass occult bounty hunter anywhere has a nightmare downside even he's not ready for...
Anticipating the worst keeps Deacon Chalk a step ahead. But he never expected that a badly-beaten werebat female victim would suddenly mutate and almost take him out. Or that the freak undead that infected her can't wait to turn all lycanthropes into uncontrollable killing machines... once he's gone. And that day is getting awfully close. Deacon may be outnumbered, outgunned, and cut off from help, but what the enemy doesn't know is that's exactly when the world's best bounty hunter lives up to his billing...

Makes me want to skip the circus.
This is listed as book 2.5 of the Dacon Chalk series. I used credit from a promotion to buy this and one other short story in this series. This one is pretty short (around an hour and a half). Like the authors other works it is very action driven and written in a tight, fast style that I enjoy reading.
The story was pretty creepy, which made it more fun. Mr. Tuck definitely packed a whole lot into a small package. The narrator did a good job but still has a limited range for characters other than Deacon. that being said his voice for Deacon is so dead on I couldn't imagine any one else doing it justice.
The only real down side is that $5 for less than 2 hours is not a great bargain. I really hope Mr. Ruck compiles all his stories into an anthology. Still if the price isn't prohibitive for you and you like the other books in the series you will enjoy this one as well but If you choose to skip this one it won't impact your enjoyment of the rest of the series.
