Publisher's Summary

"A fresh voice in crime fiction. Fast, funny, heartbreaking and wise...Elouise Norton is the best new character you'll meet this year." (Lee Child)

Los Angeles Homicide Detective Elouise Norton encounters her toughest case yet in City of Saviors, the fourth installment in the critically acclaimed mystery series from author Rachel Howzell Hall.

After a long Labor Day weekend, 73-year-old Eugene Washington is found dead in his Leimert Park home. At first blush, his death seems unremarkable- heat wave combined with food poisoning from a holiday barbecue. But something in the way Washington died doesn’t make sense. LAPD Homicide Detective Elouise "Lou" Norton is called to investigate the death and learns that the only family Washington had was the 6,000-member congregation of Blessed Mission Ministries, led by Bishop Solomon Tate.

But something wicked is lurking among the congregants of this church.

Lou’s partner, Detective Colin Taggert, thinks her focus on the congregation comes from her distrust of organized religion. But Lou is convinced that the murderer is sitting in one of those red velvet pews - and that Bishop Tate may be protecting the wolf in the flock. Lou must force the truth into the light and confront her own demons in order to save another soul before it’s too late.

Smiled at the ending. Good Book!

Overall an excellent story, and performance. I highly recommend this book. Skipped the second book in the series, and the first book was way to wordy and long! The author writing improved from the first book to this one, and so goes the story. It was just right, with twist in turns. First booked I guess the ending...bummer. This book here I was very surprised. I am liking Rachel Howzel Hall writing and books. Listen to the series and see for your self. Enjoy.

Good but not as Great as her others

The PSD thing overshadowed the story. That's why I lowered the score. Did NOT "guess who don it" OR who snitched on Lou.

Waited to review until...

I finished the series. This is an AWESOME detective series and I hope the author continues Detective Lou Norton's story. I loved the deep character development just as much as the detailed detective work. The plot twists are interesting and some keep you guessing until the end. Norton & Taggert's partnership is fun to listen to, and I'm dying to hear how it goes with Sam & Lou! Highly recommended!

Still good. Must read previous books

This installment is a bit weak. The topic is nauseating but no reason provided as to why things were as they were. So many characters made it confusing. It is important to have read the first three books in this series to understand some of the background references. Waiting for the next book.🥰
