Publisher's Summary

Some scars never truly heal.

Life has been slowly improving for DCI Jack Logan lately. Happily settled down with the woman of his dreams and a dog he begrudgingly tolerates, things are finally going Jack’s way.

But could all that be about to change?

When a sadistic killer begins picking off victims on the streets of Inverness, Jack’s boss decides to bring in some outside help. But the new team member is an old flame from Jack’s past who isn’t quite ready to let him go.

And as the dead bodies rack up, the happily ever after that Jack has been building for himself might just be the next victim to fall....

City of Scars is the 14th books in the multimillion-selling DCI Logan Scottish crime fiction series. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, LJ Ross, and Stuart MacBride.

"With gripping, twisty-turny plots, unforgettable characters, and a rich vein of laugh-out-loud humour running throughout, if you haven't yet discovered the DCI Logan series, get started now!" (Thrilling Fiction)

I LOVE this crew!

Kirk has created all these delightful characters and Angus King uses his huge gift and range to bring them to life. Unlike many male narrators, he does women just as deftly as men. I am saving this whole series as favorites to “read” again. It is a rare treat to laugh out loud in the middle of a murder mystery. Keep them coming PLEASE!

Another wild ride with the Scottish detectives!

I have loved every book in the Jack Logan series and the Bob Hoon spin-offs as well. There is of course a fascinating murder investigation, forensics and lots of twists and false leads. But the characters start to feel like old friends and I love getting updates on their lives. The book has suspense and angst and mystery but there is also humor and a snarky edge that lightens it up. Jack Logan's old flame Heather returns and puts Logan in a bind with his lover Shona. There are so many sub-plots going on and you will never want the story to end. I cannot wait for the next installment! And as usual Angus King's narration is perfect!

another funn story from J.D. kirk & Angus King .

I really enjoyed this story. It was a good mixture of police procedure and the cop's personalities. It could have gone a bit easier w/ Heather. Is anyone really that much of an obvious bitch? She should have & could have been put in her place very quickly. but I like how they got on at the end. So, what's up with Bob Hoon¿??

A good book with laugh out loud Moments

If you read the previous books some of the things that happen in the writing will make you laugh out loud of course there's a usual grim topic of murder and even serial murder with some of the characters have been developed so well by the author that some of the interaction between them and other characters cauyesterday's cause me to just break up laughing. One can appreciate the fact that the author writes this way so you really get to know the personality of the characters. I would read some of the other books before the center will even give you a deeper appreciation for the author

Another good one by JD Kirk!

The crime is gruesome and troublesome, but of course they solve it. But the humor was delightful, I laughed out loud so much you would have thought I was listening to a comedy! Well written and full of twists. And the characters are so convincingly real! And I really enjoy Angus King's narration, I love the accent!

This is excellent. We start off with "a day in the life of a detective" which is very funny. The author really trots out her writing talent.
Then we get to the business of hunting for a murderer. All is as expected to police procedural work. And, a mystery guest from
Jack's past is assigned to assist the team and, oh- the humor continues as she outrageously,
rocks the statis quo.
Just when it seems we're.done.... some new twist leaps out and we"re off.
A very, very good addition to JD Kirk's
series with these folks.

Another winner for Logan

A series that has reached a comfortable maturity, with unforgettable characters and just the right helping of humour along the way. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, hot on the heels of the (brilliant) latest instalment of the Bob Hoon series, a double helping of JD Kirk is always a good thing!

Another master piece in MHO

I read and listen to a lot of detective novels, but I can say without doubt DCI Logan has become my firm favourite. twisting plot lines with strong male and female characters. unlike other authors Kirk gives his team life not just concentrate on the plot. but portraying the banter you get within close knit teams under stress.

City of Scars just continue to build on the strength of the series. Role on September for the teams next outing.

Very enjoyable

51 words in and I smiled! Brilliantly written, amazingly narrated. I almost wish I hadn’t started listening, just so I would hear it all again for the first time.

Thank you JD (Barry), thank you Angus - you guys rock

Love it

There is always a laugh as well as the crime to solve, this book was a real page turner. I could take believe how quick I got through the book and really not a short story, shows how good it was, didn’t want it to end.

O.M.G! don't do this to me!!

Excellent as always! if you've not read/listened to this series yet, you're missing out!! Worth every credit! Can't wait to see what the gang get upto next! Without giving anything away, this installment will have you hooked from line 1! With all the usual laughs, but notwithstanding the touchingly real moments along the way! I literally wanted to stop listening at some points because I didn't wanna hear any bad things happen to characters I've become invested in! JD/Barry doesn't dissapoint and Angus brings them all to life! Cracking good read..... I'm still laughing at Tyler's unique flu remedies! 🤣

Fabulous - again!

I love this series and all the characters in this police drama procedural. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes serious, sometimes dangerous, sometimes gory. The development and interactions are superbly crafted and it is excellently narrated. I like the connection with Hoon - another series

Perfection….Yet again.

I was eagerly waiting for this book when I finished Come Hell or High Water. And my good I was not disappointed. This was an absolute joy to listen to, as ever. The story was great, plenty of twists and turns that keep you guessing. And still filled with so much humour. I laughed out loud countless time within the first few chapters and the hilarity continued throughout the whole book.. JD knows how to write a hell of a book. He is amazing. And of course Angus King and his amazing narration. His voice makes every book in this series (and the Hoon books) what they are. He and JD are a force to be reckoned with!!! I am impatiently waiting for the 3rd Hoon book in July. Until then I might just listen to this series all over again!!!

Each one is better and funnier

The writing and the humour get better with each one of the series. JD Kirk gets more sophisticated but the greatest improvement is in the humour. For such a griesly subject, I couldn't stop laughing.
The plot and the completion of the story also see great progress with each book.
I love the characters, Logan and the team are a pleasure to follow.
It's great to have stories where professionals support each other, help each other, and work together for the greater good.

disappointing new character...

i am a dedicated Logan fan and snap up every new book. Love the police procedural aspects, Highland setting and team camaraderie.
But I've just hit the bit with Heather -- the female DCI who's a grotesque stereotype of a playground mean girl with a personality disorder. It's painful to witness lovely, funny Shona reduced to scrapping with her. Not entertaining. Just hoping they get back on track. Had to stop listening for now...

Addictive

The narrator enhances the story with a pretty convincing variety of accents needed to voice the characters. Listening to each member of team ‘Logan’ makes you feel you have got to know the ‘family’ individually with their distinct personalities and amusing foibles.
I hope
