Publisher's Summary

City of Spells, the follow-up to Alexandra Christo's gritty YA fantasy Into the Crooked Place, finds the world on the brink of war and four unlikely allies facing sacrifices they had never imagined.

After the loss of Wesley and the horrifying reveal that Zekia is helping the Kingpin of her own free will, Tavia, Saxony, and Karam flee to Saxony's home to rebuild their rebellion. Meanwhile, trapped in the Kingpin's darkness, Wesley must fight against the deadly magic that invades his mind and find a way back to his friends before it's too late.

As the Kingpin's dark magic spreads and his army conquers Creije, these four unlikely friends have to decide just how far they’ll go - and how much they are willing to sacrifice - to win.

Praise for Into the Crooked Place:

"With its gangland details, creative magical caste system and surprisingly brutal characters, Into the Crooked Place is very much its own thing. And that thing will likely be a story you can’t put down." (Culturess)

Better than the prequel

I liked this book, I really struggled with the book that came before this and reviews on its predecessor were so awful I couldn't bring myself to spend any money on it. The four narrators actually works quite well which is what I was worried about. Some of the voices aren't cohesive, when you get to Wesley's chapters you just have to deal with the female voices being all one tone high and floaty where all the female voice actors have afforded them accents fairly consistently accross the other three perspectives. That was the only thing I struggled with really, I wished for dialogue the character's narator would read just because of the whole Wesley high pitched girl voice thing. Other than that this was good.

Loved it. Didnt want it to end

Was really looking forward to the conclusion of this duology and it didn't disappoint. As with the author's previous book, To Kill A Kingdom, the climax twists and turns and keeps you guessing to the very end.
I loved Wesley. Deep down every guy wishes he was as cool as him, and every girl wishes they were as badass as Karam.
Really looking forward to Alexandra Christo's next novel
