Publisher's Summary

Nighthelm is a city of lies, and Sophia is the greatest lie of them all. Though she has saved the city hundreds of times, the people of Nighthelm don’t even know she exists.

Found wandering the Witch Woods as a child, everything about Sophia is a mystery. With no memories and no family, she’s raised in secret by the professors of Nighthelm Academy…all of whom know far more about her than they’re letting on.

But Sophia does know one thing: she’s a contritum, a magical being with a broken soul. Her very existence is illegal, and until she finds the other piece of her soul, her uncontrollable magic will only grow more deadly and untamed.

As Sophia races the clock to find her other half, her magic growing more wild by the minute, she discovers three men who hold a mysterious sway over not just her soul, but also her heart.

The problem? She must lie. No matter what happens, she can’t tell them who…or what…she is.

Strong and dangerous, powerful and commanding, each of these men make her body react in traitorous ways. Bit by bit, she feels herself becoming whole around them. But for the life of her, she can’t figure out which of them has the missing piece to her soul…or how he got it in the first place.

To make matters worse, it becomes clear someone broke her soul on purpose…and she’s on a warpath to figure out why.

In a world rife with heartbreaking betrayal and intricate spells, the magical creatures of the Witch Woods are closing in on Nighthelm. They all want one thing…Sophia.

The monsters of the Witch Woods have discovered what she is, and they want to slit her throat. They’ll kill anyone who stands in their way…especially her men.

To save her men and finally heal her broken life, Sophia has only one choice - she will fight. And damn it all, she will win.

Came for Tess

I picked this up when checking if Tess Irondale had narrated anything recently. She's a favorite and I'm glad I gave this a shot. I'm interested to see where this goes, it has compelling characters.

Let’s the gods safe you with this listen

First in a series
The heroine is Sophia. Hero’s are 3 men. The men are , were best friends in their younger yrs . All are different walks of life. A Shade , a Mag an officer in the Army .
Sophia knows something is wrong , she feels like someone broke her soul !! No matter what she can’t remember how that happens . All she knows is she trains out in the woods with a sword , no women clothes for her . Sophia has a plan pretend she’s a duke daughter. Everything goes as planned , she dresses up and goes to the ball and that’s here Sophia meets her men . Lots go on in their life’s . Sophia and her men safe each other
Both narrators Tess Irondale, Soren Gray were great . The performance was strong very strong and smooth. All the characters were said perfect

A Struggle

I liked the initial premise, but the story lost momentum and became predictable. I struggled to make it to the end and I won't be continuing the series. The biggest issue for me was character development. All of the characters were bland and the somewhat monotone narration didn't help.

Great storytelling.

Well written novel with really great narration. The start was a bit slow for me but no less entertaining.

Great start to a series

Full of action and suspension. Fantasy novel with a magically enhanced heroine and her three men both lovers and protectors. Her men , one a Rath shifter, one a sorcerer and last one a soldier with magical powers. **Great narration by two individuals Tess Irondale and Soren Gray.

enjoyed this book

This book was engaging. I love to listen to Soran Gray's voice. It reminds me of Luke Daniels!

A cheaper version of Throne of glass?

This reminds me too much of the Throne of glass series, but maybe that’s the reason I enjoyed so much! 😂

Disappointing

The plot leaps are just too much.

After a seriously short amount of time it went from first dates to she has sex with them and decides she is in love.

It is Fantasy but it needs to be believable.

My other concern is that teens will be reading this and are likely to believe the jump from first date to sex is normal.

An interesting story, let down somewhat

I found this story had an interesting plot, even though it is based on most of the tried-and-true fantasy elements. The switching from one character's viewpoint to another added an interesting element. It's a story meant for young adults, but even though I am well beyond that I would still recommend it, but with provisos. Firstly, there seems to be a good number of replicated explanations in the initial hour or so, but these diminish as the plot develops. Secondly, the male reader/performer had a tendency of ignoring plot pauses - almost as if he was running one paragraph into the following one. Thirdly, there is, in my opinion, an over stress on graphically described sex. This could have been handled more intelligently as the graphical descriptions add nothing to the story.

AMAZING

This was a great audiobook. Both narrators were amazing and definitely helped bring more personality into each character. This book does hold a preview for the next book in the series if you get the audiobook version, so it actually ends an hour before the recording is done. I always love a sneak peak as it helps to give insight into the type of book it's going to be. This book though was amazing and definitely one I would recommend. With strong heroines and protective heroes, it holds it all while still remaining in the storyline. If you have read the blurb and think you might like it then I hope you decide to give it a go. Hopefully you find you love it just as much as I do, if not more. Enjoy!
