Unbelievably bad accents from the narrator.

Firstly I'll say I love the Infernal Devices (and all the Shadowhunter stories) and have read them as Kindle books. This time I thought I'd try the audio. The only reason I haven't returned this one is that I've checked ahead and the next two books have different narrators.
According to Wikipedia this narrator, while born in the US, has a British mother, but I can hardly believe it. Her British accents are truly terrible. Henry is made so plummy sounding as to be a complete parody of a Victoria gentleman, and don't even get me started on Mortmain. I'm assuming she's attempting some kind of Yorkshire accent, although it veers from vague Yorkshire to sometime Scottish to just plain odd. Honestly, for a book where the majority of the characters are English, more effort could have been made to find a suitable narrator. While I recommend this story, I do not recommend this recording.

Narration isn't as bad as the mortal instruments

At least this woman doesn't sound like she's trying to be posh!

Is she good at accents? No but she isn't irritating either.

The story as always is awesome.

Terrible narration!

The book is great and the story well worth reading if you like the Shadowhunters series. The narration, however, is abysmal. The fake English accent is grating, she gave Gabriel Lightwood a lisp he does not have in the book and screeches horribly when trying to convey urgency, making some of the female characters sound demented...
Very disappointing!

Good book

The story was good as it takes you back in time to shadow hunters of the past. But I was disappointed with the person reading the book as a lot of the voices sometimes sounded the same which made it a bit distracting

Great story - dreadful narrator- disappointing

For shadowhunter fans this pre-story clips along but the reader is dismal : all the voices are minimally different to each other and the pace drags. Reading it yourself would be worth the extra effort. A great shame and redoing the audio books for this whole set with a single good narrator would be worth the investment.

Exceptional book

Loved the book. I really enjoyed city of bones series and dark artifice but couldn't get through the bane chronicles so was happy to find this series was another winner of Cassandra Clare but the era gave it a whole new feel.
The accent of the reader took a little getting used to but her dark sisters voice was chilling!
Hate when audio books mispronounce words important to the story though - words like stele and parabati bugged me everytime.

One of my favourite books 📚

I absolutely love the shadow world and all the characters in it. This is one of my favourite young adult reads and The Infernal Devices is the best series of them all so to have this on audio is fantastic. Tessa, Will and Jem are amazing characters and I couldn't put this book down, I've read it many times and now I can listen to it too. l think Jennifer does a great job at reading this, the voices she uses for each character is clear and recognised, with no irritation. I highly recommend!

Great book but some of the narration is a bit off

This is a reread for me and the book was as good as the first time. My only complaint is that some of the narrator's voices are horrendous. In particular whenever Tessa was "shouting" and Mortmain's voice were both noticeably horrible.
I hope this improves in the rest of the series.

Will be reading the rest of the series

Recording is slow but sounds good on 1.2x speed. It is a bit polarizing having it read like a children's book - I do appreciate the effort but it does take away from the tone of the book - There's is an earlier comment that says similarly. Overall, I'm excited to hear more of this adventure.

Narrated as though to a child.

Id previously read this series a few years ago and was looking forward to revisiting the story through audiobook. I struggled to get through it, the narrator was seriously overexaggerating the voices, it was how i would read to a child, that and the english accents really deterred me from finishing. I see the next book has a different narrator so I will still give it a go.

One of my favourite books but needs new narration

This book is one of my all time favourites! The story of this series is amazing and I will forever be re reading them. Normally I would give it 5 stars but unfortunately I could just not get into the narrator it sounded like she had something in her mouth the whole time and it ruined the story for me which is sad. Bottom line highly recommend reading this book but not listening to it.
