Publisher's Summary

If you are often prey to mood swings and a feeling of inadequacy; if your behaviors and emotions are influenced by intrusive thoughts that leave you frustrated; if you feel you are a victim of unhealthy habits and want to try to change them; then this practical CBT guide can help you acquire a different and better way of living.

We speak frankly: Every day we experience stressful or unwanted situations that make us angry, scared or depressed, but we cannot avoid them...instead we can change the way we react to them by helping ourselves with the behavior of cognitive therapy. It aims to provide the tools to know how to manage anxiety in a concrete way by changing dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts. This book collects and exemplifies many of the strategies of CBT therapy to offer a simple but effective basic guide to read and consult.

In fact, this method of therapy allows you to tackle a series of anxiety-provoking circumstances step-by-step and gradually overcome situations that previously tended to avoid or evoke negative thoughts.

It is a therapy indicated in the presence of various psychological, emotional and behavioral disorders (anxiety, depression, panic attacks, phobias, sleep disorders, eating disorders, and others) that offers numerous tools to be used to identify distorted patterns of reasoning and interpretation of reality, integrating them with functional and positive thoughts and beliefs; learning to use them will improve your perception of yourself and the quality of your personal relationships.

However, the authors' advice is to carefully evaluate the severity of your problems and to be cautious in dealing with this type of self-help, because if your ailments have serious pathological components and your feelings are too overwhelming, you may need to other types of intervention to be addressed with the advice of a psychotherapist.

The contents you will find in this book are:

  • CBT: what it is, how it works and to whom it is addressed
  • Techniques to retrain your brain
  • Critical analysis and self-awareness: objective change
  • The cognitive-behavioral strategies that trigger self-therapy adapted to your needs
  • Overcome challenges, promote your personal growth and achieve physical and mental well-being

Do NOT waste your time or money on this book.

1 star bc I can’t give 0 stars...

It’s a giant ‘commercial’ describing what CBT is and a theoretical discussion of how it might be a good idea to get a therapist.

Move on to something more practical or just go ahead and find a CBT therapist.
This book is a complete waste of time.

I want my credit back.

Good read

I like the way this book is clear and concise, and to the point. I also appreciated the section on core beliefs as that is important and not always talked about.

Nice Book

This book helps you to understand and take action when it comes to unwanted negative thoughts and feelings. I love the "Chapter Summary and Homework" sections because they turn each topic into steps you work on right away. A combination text and workbook, this "made simple" design is perfect for anyone looking for a guide as they strive to make positive changes and feel better. As a practicing psychologist, I'm going to use this book often and recommend it to my patients. So helpful to have a clear and concise roadmap for letting go of worries and improving your mood!

Very user friendly for the overwhelmed

This book is definitely one that I would want all of my patients who benefit from CBT to have their own copy of. The author did an excellent job of making CBT very user friendly for anyone who might be feeling too overwhelmed in the current moment of their lives to focus on less user friendly books. Let's face it. If you are human you've probably experienced overwhelm at least once. If CBT is indicated, this book will help, along with an experienced clinician of course.
