On Mother's Day, 1985, the bodies of Kathryn Eastburn and her two young daughters were found in their Fayetteville, North Carolina, home. Katie, an air force captain's wife, had been raped and stabbed to death. Kara and Erin's throats had been slit. Their toddler sister, Jana, was the only survivor. Story
It was a bleak November in 2012 when Cari Lea Farver vanished from Omaha, Nebraska. Cari, 37, was a devoted mother, reliable employee, and loyal friend - not the type to shirk responsibilities, abandon her son, and run off on an adventure while her dying father took his last breaths. Yet, the many texts from her phone indicated she had done just that. While Cari's boyfriend, Dave Kroupa, and her supervisor were bewildered by her abrupt disappearance, they accepted the texts at face value. Her mother, Nancy Raney, however, was alarmed and reported Cari missing.

Publisher's Summary
From a New York Times - bestselling journalist: The story of the murder of a California attorney at the hands of the lethally cunning wife he never doubted.
A wealthy and well-connected legal ace and the proud owner of a champion show horse, Larry McNabney had every reason to love his life. But when he disappeared in September 2001, his wife, Elisa, claimed he joined a cult.
When Larry's body was found in a shallow grave three months later, Elisa was already gone. In a red convertible Jaguar, her brown hair dyed blond, Mrs. McNabney was speeding toward a new life in Florida - and a brand new identity.
Who was Elisa McNabney? Beautiful, seductive, and ruthless, she had thirty-eight aliases and a rap sheet a mile long. Carlton Smith, coauthor of the true crime classic The Search for the Green River Killer, reveals one shocking surprise after another in this harrowing tale of broken vows and deadly betrayal.

The story was really interesting, the victim and perpetrators are really fleshed out. Making them both sympathetic and despicable. The narration bugged me, it was like having a book read by the old movie-phone guy.

a decent audiobook for middle of the road
A little long in the tooth I feel it could shorten to an extent very middle of the road in my opinion on some of the points made by the Author The story clearly outlines a tale of stupid people with too much money and too many chemical substances in their body to make sound judgments

Can't even finish tho
There was way too much detail in this book. He talked for 30 minutes about the history of the city Reno. Not at all relevant to the story. There were other times he went on and on with minute, irrelevant details. I am 6 hours into this with 3 hours to go and I just can't listen anymore.

Great true crime
for lovers of true crime genre it's satisfying and thorough look at the psyche of a wayward woman who could do no better. Back story on Larry was longish (could have been at least 90 min shorter--didn't need play by play of his legal career to capture the alcoholic flamboyant lawyer) but overall satisfying. Narration was so dry I couldn't have finished it but for the captivating story. With a good narrator I'd have given it a solid 4 or better for the genre

Man I couldn’t even get through the first 4 chapters. Yawn! The story kept changing and on so many different rabbit trails. One minute it’s a history of Reno then the next minute it’s some other person who is related to someone else indirectly related to a death. So many people involved I couldn’t remember who was who.

Takes a while to get into it
there was a lot of information that could've been cut out, it takes a while to get into anything that seems relevent. A lot of people are introduced with no real need for it and the narrators voice is monotone until about half way through when even he seems to get more interested. It is a good story but it just took too much time to get to the point, I was thinking of giving up but I hate not finishing things.

this is just terrible
I managed to get through just over 1 hour of this garbage. I can safely say that I've never given up on a book anywhere near this quickly, but seriously, the whole time all I could think was "WTF is this guy actually telling a story about?!"
Everything about this title is terrible - from the annoying monotone voice that performs it, to the confusing, boring and irrelevant details it describes. In the short time I had taken to listen to it, around 20 characters were introduced, and so many tangents minutely described that I couldn't make sense whatsoever of what on earth was actually going on.
A lot of people would say that it's not fair to judge a book so quickly. To this I say - try listening to this thing for more than an hour and then get back to me. The thought of actually trying to get through the whole title is nothing short of terrifying. The only good use for this audio book would be as s torture technique in maximum security prisons and military operations - I guarantee that any information being withheld would be handed over within minutes.
I really wish I had taken the other 1-star reviews on board more and never started listening to this. It is hands down the worst title I've ever encountered on Audible, or anywhere else for that matter. I know it was free, but that's an hour of my life I'll never get back. I'm really surprised that Audible accepts works of such low quality, as every other title I've listened to on here, including many free ones, has been great.
