Publisher's Summary

The downtown area of today's Washington, DC, has become an armed camp. Men with assault rifles crouch on top of monuments and buildings. Antimissile sites bristle on the White House roof. Meter maids carry Glocks and tactical radios, all in the name of federal CT: counterterrorism.

In Cold Frame, the dramatic new thriller by P. T. Deutermann, a secret committee of government and civilian officials maintains a list known as the Kill List, which targets overseas threats to America for termination. When a senior bureaucrat who is part of the Kill List process dies in Washington under mysterious circumstances that include a beautiful woman, a glass of wine, and a bouquet of flowers, Metro detective Av Smith is tasked to investigate. Smith and his fellow detectives soon find themselves besieged by a hornet's nest of intrigue and deception.

With the aid of an FBI agent and a reclusive scientist who nurtures unusual interests, Av digs deeper into the mystery - only to become the target of a plan that reaches into the highest levels of the federal government and far exceeds the mission of the Kill List itself.

Set in contemporary Washington, DC, amid the Byzantine counterterrorism bureaucracy, Cold Frame is a compelling thriller by a masterful novelist whose insider knowledge of how the military, federal, and local intelligence agencies work - or don't - illuminates the dark world of Washington's war on terror.

Left me cold!

I have really enjoyed reading P. t. Deter an books, but this one left me totally uninspired.
The characters were strangers when they come into the book and remained that way throughout the book. No heroes to root for or to even want to identify with.
And the ending sucks

You Like Comic Books?

I did not write, "You Like Graphic Novels?" Nope, up there in the headline, the word's "Comic". No, not Ha-hah, or even giggle... But two dimensional characters thin as the cheap paper they're printed on and inked in primary colors. BUT... there's a market for comic books with stories as thin as that coating of ink. No, I'm not being condescending, the book'd make a gook hour-long summer cable movie. And I'd probably watch, then forget it before the final ad block faded.

P.T. Deutermann does take a tiny candle into the darkness that's obscuring a large part of America's Homeland Security infrastructure but with the subtlety of an Archie... well... Comic Book. Dick Hill, as always, is a terrific aural actor.Give this book to twelve year olds. They'll call you cool.

It's OK if you like political mysteries

‘Cold Frame’ is a political twister with a large cast of characters and a ton of secrecy which helps a bit in the suspense but doesn’t rise to the level of a thriller. The characters are a bit one dimensional but interesting and the addition of bottony group adds a new twist I haven’t seen before and kept it interesting and refreshing.

Dick Hill does a great job with the narration. I love his readings.

Wonderful 'tall story ' by a masterful writer and one if the best performers of the spoken word.

self-indulgent

the author seems more interested in pursuing arcane interests and describing the peculiarities of odder-than-life characters than in creating a compelling and believable story. The narrative seems mostly padded, like wood pulp in parmesan, too many characters caricatures, too many scenes predictable and overwritten.

Excellent

Deutermann is a superb writer. Always takes a good guy that is caught up in a web of intrigue and keeps you guessing. Moves well. Good storyline.

Kept falling asleep! There was really good dialog and quips but kept having to back track to understand connections. Lurch lives! Is this part of a series? I'll give it another listen but for now 2 stars
