Sad ending

The ending was so sad. Otherwise the book was great! The characters were very “fleshed” out.

Racist in my opinion

Ok so the story was okay but waaaaay too long. Every black person sounded like they just came off the plantation and every Hispanic sounded so needy and dumb. The voices were awful unless the characters was white. Horrible that she called a gay man a fag multiple times. I would never recommend!

1 Star or 5???

I didn’t know what to rate this book. It was intriguing and keeps the reader hooked. 5 stars. But if you a person with a sensitive soul or soft heart, 1 star - DON’T DO IT. Just read the first two books, Cold Shoulder and Cold Blood, and stop right there. I will carry this one with me grieving my mind for a long, long time. This is the book that keeps you awake at night - tears at the ready.

Great Book

A wonderfully written book qith lots of suspense and mystery. I would have liked if she could have kept this character going for a moment.

Did not appriciate this book

Lynda La Plate is known for the strong female roles in her stories. In this one she paints a picture of her heroine of a love sick puppy that sacrifices everything for a relationship that isn't even 2 weeks old. Very unlike the battered but mind strong main character of the first book.

Not for me

The narrator of this mystery is beyond annoying, weird male voices, silly "little girl" voice, really over the top NY accent. I can't take it any more, even though I enjoy LaPlante's books.

I was enjoying but it was a disappointed ending

I would have given more stars for the story line but the ending was depressing. it wasn't what I expected.

Ending 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have enjoyed many of this author’s books! This one is the exception. Had I guessed the ending I would have stopped listening.

Good plot but laughable narration

Gripping but dated tale(derogatory terms used for various people), but the narrator should never attempt more than one character’s voice, definitely avoid trying to do a male. This put me off the tale as it was cringeworthy.

Worst narration ever

Couldn’t listen past chapter 3. Cartoon-like narration. Kept expecting Bugs Bunny to pop out shouting “what’s up Doc?” Books should be read, not “performed”

No, just NO !

La Plante is making a cardinal sin, putting an British end on a try to write American.
I have read most of her books (18) this is the first that’s going back, the story is not up to standard people being killed of just here and there and yes it’s almost OK but just not up to La Plantes standard this is more like a cheap slasher movie, the buildup and Buavard is the only positive thing there is to say about this audiobook !

Lazy - Spoiler

I loved the dolly Rawlings series and I respected the authors decision to kill this character off, i’ve been really enjoying this trilogy and suddenly nearing the end of book 3 it becomes totally obvious that Lorraine Paige is going to be killed off, it feels repetitive, formulaic and very disappointing from a writer I hugely enjoy and respect. One I will be returning.

Compelling murder mystery PI drama

Absolutely brilliant series of books, this one was so bitter sweet, I was praying for a happy ending for Jake and Lorraine but not to be, so many twists to the book, and although Lorraine had solved it in her mind, Jake completed it in her memory, narration was brilliant and added to the book immensely
