A mutilated body is found dumped at Cowane's Hospital in the heart of historic Stirling. For DCI Malcolm Ford it's like nothing he's ever seen before, the savagery of the crime making him want to catch the murderer before he strikes again. For reporter Donna Blake it's a shot at the big time, a chance to get her career back on track and prove all the doubters wrong. But for close protection specialist Connor Fraser it's merely a grisly distraction from the day job.

A dead man walks into a police station. He tells a tale - bizarre as it is grotesque - of kidnap and organ harvesting. John Baden's story of being held prisoner for 12 years sounds far-fetched - but it's all about to get much, much stranger. DI Ben Westphall has been given the case because of his background in MI6. He also has a knack for getting inside people's heads and seeing things others would miss. Westphall is no ordinary detective, and this is no ordinary case.

Publisher's Summary
Something's wild out west....
When a badly burned body is found near the remote Ardnamurchan Lighthouse on the west coast of Scotland, it feels like just another day on the job for DCI Jack Logan and his team.
But the victim’s list of enemies, including a diminutive loan shark and a powerful local politician, is far longer than Jack was prepared for.
And don’t even get him started on the magic psychic sex cult.
With political scandal brewing, conspiracy theories running wild, and a team member stuck inside a giant road safety squirrel costume, DCI Logan’s latest case might just be his most bizarre to date.
Come Hell or High Water is the 13th book in the multi-million selling DCI Logan Scottish Crime Fiction series. Packed with action, pathos, and dark humor, the series is perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, and Stuart MacBride."

More excitement in Scotland!
The books of JD Kirk make my heart happy. The stories are engaging/engrossing and I plow through the books in record time. They’re like old faithful friends - ones you really love to hear from and hope they come over to your house to spend some time. Then, there’s the “funny bits”. The humor of Kirk’s writing just makes my heart warm. I don’t know if there’s enough good things I can say except, if you haven’t stuck you toes into the JD Kirk pond, I don’t know what you’re waiting for.
This book was absorbing, hilarious, tender, devastating - delightful. Jump, my friends, jump…

JD Kirk + Angus King = A Match Made in Heaven
I have always enjoyed this series, but this is the first time I decided to do the Audible. Oh my gosh - I can’t believe what I was missing. Angus King is masterful in his rendition of the story and its characters. I was laughing out loud at some of the situations especially those involving Tyler. Of course the story itself was excellent as are all the others in this series. I highly recommend this series and Angus King’s narration.

Could Tyler get any more annoying?
Though I must say, by the end of the book, I’d grown to appreciate his more….unexpected… qualities.
And Taggart.. cannot say enough. I want to marry him and have his children.
So Inspector Logan proves once again that-he can’t solve a crime without his team of miscreants.
And the sex Dave gets involved in! Whooee!

Laughed and happy tears moments
This series of books by JD Kirk have got me through the past two years of the pandemic. They are my escape from things. The latest, Come hell or high water, had me laughing out loud, and also a few wee teary happy moments. The main characters are all likeable and this storyline made me want to go and visit more of my beautiful country I live in. A great book, funny, exciting story and the varied characters they meet along the way makes me want the book to continue longer.

JD Kirk never fails to deliver
JD never writes a usual crime story, his stories are interlaced with hilarity and moments of introspection and are set in yet another beautiful location. This one is yet another of those books you enjoy so much with characters brought to life by Angus King’s narration that you don’t want it to end. I didn’t care about who committed the crime, I enjoyed the character interaction too much. A jolly great read from start to finish. Thank you!

Another cracker
This is another of JD Kirk’s brilliant Logan series.
What did I like? Everything!
What did I dislike? Well, he could have let Dave get his end away with some of the latter day hippies but the poor man only got a crispy freckle.
But other than that, nothing.
I’m now off to delve into the Hoonatic’s latest tome of gratuitous violence, copious swearing all topped with lashings of great humour.

Great series
I have absolutely enjoyed this series. I love how the characters develop and the humour is laugh out loud at times, without lessening, making light of, or spoiling the storyline. I'm really looking forward to City of Scars being available on audio.

Disappointing on every level
The plot moves at glacial pace.
The narration is theatrical. The character voices by Angus King are over done to such a degree that the characters are unlikeable and seem just dumb.
The dialogue is over written to a degree that at times it’s excruciating to listen to. And unfortunately there’s a lot of it.
Disappointing on every level.

A good listen, eventually.
Enjoyed the story just seemed to take a while to get into it and so much detail. Logan not always a likeable character but some enjoyable humour lightens the story

Disappointing
The humour was over done and detracted from the story for me. I found it tedious
