Donald Trump v. The United States tells the dramatic story of those who felt compelled to confront and try to contain the most powerful man in the world as he shredded norms and sought to expand his power. Michael S. Schmidt takes listeners inside the defining events of the presidency, chronicles them up close, and records the clash between an increasingly emboldened president and those around him, who find themselves trying to thwart the president they had pledged to serve, unsure whether he is acting in the interest of the country, his ego, his family business, or Russia.

As one of the strategists behind the famous 2012 RNC “autopsy,” Miller conducts his own forensic study on the pungent carcass of the party he used to love, cutting into all the hubris, ambition, idiocy, desperation, and self-deception for everyone to see. In a bracingly honest reflection on both his own past work for the Republican Party and the contortions of his former peers in the GOP establishment, Miller draws a straight line between the actions of the 2000s GOP to the Republican political class's Trumpian takeover, including the horrors of January 6th.

Publisher's Summary
The FBI veteran behind the Russia investigation draws on decades of experience hunting foreign agents in the United States to lay bare the threat posed by President Trump.
When he opened the FBI investigation into Russia’s election interference, Peter Strzok had already spent more than two decades defending the United States against foreign threats. His career in counterintelligence ended shortly thereafter, when the Trump administration used his private expression of political opinions to force him out of the Bureau in August 2018. But by that time, Strzok had seen more than enough to convince him that the commander in chief had fallen under the sway of America’s adversary in the Kremlin.
In Compromised, Strzok draws on lessons from a long career - from his role in the Russian illegals case that inspired The Americans to his service as lead FBI agent on the Mueller investigation - to construct a devastating account of foreign influence at the highest levels of our government. And he grapples with a question that should concern every US citizen: When a president appears to favor personal and Russian interests over those of our nation, has he become a national security threat?

A patriot goes over the facts of TrumpRussia
I loved Compromised. This was the 7th nonfiction book I've read about Crossfire Hurricane, not counting Mueller's report or the 5 volume Senate intel committee report on their bipartisan investigation of Trump-Russia collusion, both reports I also devoured in whole. Peter Strozk's career in the army and FBI should have spoken for themselves. He is a patriot and has given his life to defending this country. I found it fascinating and finished the whole thing in less than 2 days. I personally love nonfiction books about the work of intelligence & counterintelligence, but I believe it is the duty of every American, regardless of partisan affiliation, to read this book. The truth that any well-informed American has known for years, is that the FBI & Mueller were right to investigate the multitude of ties to Russia that SEVERAL members of the Trump family and campaign had before during and after the presidential campaign. But Strozk's account is a flawless and facts-based, straightforward reiteration of the events as they developed. I admire him and his life's work of protecting our country, especially in the extremely difficult vein of counterintelligence investigations. Read this book and there will be no doubt in your mind that all of my comments here are the truth. Thank you to the author for this book as a continuation of a life of service to America. We're on your side.

Cannot get enough of this book
I haven’t finished the book but I’ve not ever had a book grip me from the first words to now... and I must go to bed.
I’m a junky for the russia interference investigation ~ and only into chapter 3 and this book has answered at least 100 questions in the back of my mind.
I love that peter is narrating it - his tone & tenor match the aura of the FBI.
It’s rare that I purchase a physical copy of a book after audio, but I am purchasing one as soon as possible as I want to mark it up with notes & research.
Absolutely fascinating.

Exceptional!
I have developed quite a library on the Trump administration. So far, this is the best. For those of us that cringed at the vulgar treatment this author received from Trump, Strzok's account of the last 4/5 years was bittersweet. Every literate American needs to have this book.

Very insightful, the detail is through the roof.
I give a 4 star overall because it's a book about politics. Not saying there shouldn't be books about politics, just that only so much enjoyment can be had from a book about politics.
5 star performance and story. Peter would make an amazing narrator, I thoroughly enjoy listening to his voice and how he pronounces every word precisely. Peter would make an amazing author if he never returned to the FBI. In the beginning of the book Peter did an excellent job writing about his childhood making it impossible for your imagination not to bring his words to life.
Otherwise very insightful and helps explain how things played out with important details.

You just think you know what this book is about
I expected to know most of what I was going to read - it was all covered in the press, right? I was pleasantly surprised - the author's background story of his early years was compelling and provided such great insight into who he is as a person and reads like a fictional spy novel. I couldn't put it down. Fast-forwarding to the more current day doesn't disappoint. To hear this told from Peter Strzok's perspective was everything from eye-opening, depressing, inspiring to infuriating - but all fascinating.

A Method to Measure the Truth
Compromised, Counterintelligence, and the Threat of Donald J. Trump, written and read by Peter Strzok. Some items to set out immediately. This is akin to reading a Great Courses study, with the subject matter of spycraft or tradecraft; the techniques, methods, and technologies used in modern espionage (spying) generally, Intelligence assessment. Strzok’s ability to layout the elements of and explain the meaning to us of spycraft is quite good. That may be because he has occupied the position of one of America’s foremost agents on behalf of protecting America for the last twenty years. Yes, he is not a mere voyeur of caustic talk, but rather someone who has protected you from those who want to disappear the American way of life. I did not know this until this magnificent read. An aside: I was going to ignore this book until I heard three separate interviews with Strzok and realized here is a highly intelligent man dedicated to the American way, our systems of freedoms.
This book tells the story of his life as a counterspy agent for the FBI and his unwanted confrontation with the Trump paralysis to the vibrancy of our nation. It is told as a spy novel written by Robert Ludlum (Bourne series) and is a cliffhanger. For example, come armed with a good recollection of spy news you have read about for the last twenty years. You are going to learn about the back story to many of those news reports. It is an excitement to read.
This book gives you inventory to measure whether Mr. Strozk who has served the United States all of his existence is the scab on our continued freedoms or is the infected skin that now sheaths this country the advocate on behalf of the Russian dictator Putin. A harsh metaphor for difficult times in America. In this book, you may find answers.

The most frightening revelations of this time
The raw honesty of this book lays bare our own government’s compromised capitulation to the rule of terror and corruption from foreign adversaries and, most frightening, from within our own government itself. Simply, and with step by step clarity, the author presents us with the perfect storm of power-hungry men coming together in the “right” moment, our real life NOW moment, with vast connections to far too many and varied government institutions . One by one, United by fear of tweets of terror and wrath, these individuals destroy our democracy, and in a dangerous game of dominoes, they corrupt or defeat institutions and individuals who try to stand in their way.
There are many insightful and important books available on the market today (and please do not take the freedom of the press for granted any more). Many are invaluable as America approaches its Day of Reckoning. However, if you could read only one book between now and the day you vote, let this be the one.
Thank you, Peter Strzok.

Supposition, upon supposition, upon supposition
Let me see if I have this correct: Both Dem and GOP were looking for “dirt” on their opponents and both contacted Russians sources. The Dems came up with a dossier embarrassing to DJT and the GOP came up with nothing except 3 years of investigation aimed at them. The Dems paid $8 mill to the Russians/KGB for the dirt. The dossier turns out to be mostly KGB disinformation which was extremely disparaging and embarrassing to DJT. The Dems spread this disinformation thru the mainstream media, political minions and their intelligence community apparatchiks like DOJ attorney Bruce Ohr and his wife who worked for a company connected to the dossier. Yet PS claims that the Russians wanted DJT to WIN the election. Did someone in the KGB not get that memo? Does that make sense to anyone but PS???
Other observations:
1. George Papadopoulos (GP) was a low level, naïve, wannabe trying to ingratiate himself with the campaign by getting dirt on Hillary Clinton (HC). GP got nada. Unfortunately, PS missed an opportunity to make GP a double agent to secure the stolen emails. This would help determine who stole the documents and if there was any classified which could be used to compromise HC. It was reported that HC admitted deleted 31,830 emails and “cleaned” the server AFTER receiving a subpoena. It is highly likely that the KGB has all her emails. Nevertheless, PS assured us that, “There is no evidence she (HC) had anything to hide.” In addition, PS omitted the fact that Bill Clinton was paid $500K for a speech in Russia while HC was Secretary of State. The gravy train does not end there as the Podesta and Biden families got wealthy from Ukraine and Russia, which is business as usual for political mafia families. PS is a true sycophant repeatedly absolving HC of any wrongdoing.
2. Obviously PS abhors DJT and his smelly Walmart followers (per PS). PS’s venom is oozing out in ever chapter of this book. He put DJT on his list of “Suspects” because, according to DJT’s former attorney DJT lied about his real estate intentions in Russia and he spoke nice to Putin.
The most egregious criminal act was by the FBI who KNOWINGLY omitted from the FISA warrant that Carter Page was providing info to the CIA. In addition, there were 17 glaring errors in the FISA application. This was not “grossly negligent” but a serious intentional felony to which an FBI lawyer pled guilty. Scary stuff.
3. Finally PS’s treatment of General Flynn (GF) was despicable. PS sneaked past the DOJ protocol and arranged the GF interviewed to set him up as revealed by subsequent FBI documents. PS assured us that this was fine since Obama and the Dems did not think GF should get the job. For the rest of the story I need a barf bag. GF was hospitable and friendly and took the agents on a White House tour. PS commented that he felt a connection to GF, like FBI Agents do, with military and police. When the interview began PS could easily have provided a copy of the transcript of GF calls to a Russian official to help refresh his memory, which agents frequently do when they testify. Instead PS tricked GF into “lying” “even though it’s obvious GF’s recollection of the calls was minimal. As PS departed his snide inner dialogue continued berating GF for spending too much time with the Agents. What a guy!
As one of the FBI Agents working on the case put it this case was built on “supposition, upon supposition, upon supposition. As we read in the book and saw from the Rep. Trey Gowdy’s interview, PS is sanctimonious, arrogant, and condescending. In the end he shamed himself and the FBI.

Should be mandatory reading
This was an absolute page turner. The detail and information about the start of the investigation into Russia and its attempt (with success) to interfere in the 2016 election. This book also walks us through the numerous Trump figures that welcomed this foreign assistance. Highly recommend this book.

Very interesting, at first.
It was very interesting in the beginning hearing about the inner workings of the department and how spies get into our country. Then it got into: Hillary's emails. Have heard more than enough of that. Stupid then, not that long ago, still stupid.

A Man to Admire
What a fabulous book. I have been looking forward to this book coming out and boy was it worth it .
The pain and frustration I saw when the men and women of Americas security services testify to Trumps corruption in " trial " after "trial " and the truly dreadful way they were treated made my heart ache for them .
Peter tells you straight how things were before and during the early day's of the administration , how he and others were treated because of the information that was amassed about illegal activities connected to the selection of a new president .
Truly fascinating insight into his world at a dreadful time when he was fighting for everything he believed in .
He is an amazing man who fought for what was right throughout his career , his story is shocking, madning and heartbreakingly sad and all of this is told in the most direct and informative way.
I am Scottish not American but have always hoped that Peter would get the chance to tell us his story and he did it good, I can assure you it was well worth the wait multiple times . This will be getting another listen for sure . A five star review for a great book.

Trump, a clear and present danger.
Peter Strzok has outlined a clear attack on democracy by America’s enemies and the internal traitors hiding in plain sight within its borders who are only interested in personal financial gain. America beware!
