Publisher's Summary

Luke Tavares has dreamed of joining the vast gaming guilds of the hypernet. After recently graduating high school, his parents have given him the same ultimatum as his siblings; he has one month to get a job to pay for his air, gravity, and water aboard the Dahlia.

The freighter needs more hands, but Luke doesn’t want to be a trader-ship engineer. In Sphere World, he can mine asteroids, build bots, and make weapons to fuel the system-wide war between nodes.

As a free player, it is his own credits on the line. But when his opponents are the very guilds that he wishes to join, he’s going to have to use every trick he knows to win.

Just Stuff

Just random stuff happening. The only thing good about this book is Travis and even he can't save this mess. It's just random crap happening all over by Teenagers/Young Adults, The kids are basically minnows is a ocean of corporate sharks, playing a game that has zero restrictions what the trash guilds can do in game, hell the rules of the game have not even been explained by the author. Aside from the PAY 2 Win aspect that is in full force.

A rather unique fantasy

Michael Chatfield formulated a rather robust fantasy with several levels of human involvement. If I'd put it in equation form it would look something like:
f(x)=(familial(a) + SpaceOpera(b) + GameLit(c) + FirstContact(?))

Michael is known for his penchant for important details and this series is no exception (note: the Repair Tool came off as an futuristic and unintended magical multi-tool, though.) The character development was well done as was the overall story, itself. One odd thing that remains puzzling to me is the factions attacking other factions real infrastructure and, apparently, since there is no loss of life involved, there is no legal consequences in doing so other than the cost involved in material loss.

Anyway, it was a great start for a new series and I look forward to picking up book 2.

Travis Baldree's performance continues to make storytelling a listening pleasure.

more

I need more. this seems more like a sciencefiction that's less than a decade away from becoming science fact.

classic story. good predictable ending.

this book was pretty much 100% predictable. and I loved it because of that. I don't need a book that tries to avoid tropes and skips out on interesting but well trodden story plots.
this book was satisfying and enjoyable. Would absolutely recommend it for new readers and old.
that being said, I'm sure the next book will be far more exciting and unpredictable because of how this book set up its sequel. can't wait for the next one! keep up the great writing! this my favorite author!

Great Start

This story has lots of world building and character development. To it's a different spin on his Emerilia series. Travis Baldree as always made everything come to life for me. Great book highly recommend.

I'm in to see where this goes

I'm in for this series.
I've enjoyed all the 10 Realms so far and enjoy this authors work.

The characters seem more complex & real with their interactions / personalities / reactions then in many series I've read.

The sci-fi soft realism is fun and makes a easy to grasp the setting.

Only improvement I can think of is 15% less fighting description (padding out the wordcount) and 15% more story and interactions BC it is high quality and very enjoyable. The combat narratives are good just keep them pushing the story and character development.

Another Hit

Michael Chatfield has written a number of book series and I have loved them all. If you like sci-fi and also litrpg then this is a book you need to try out.

Not quiet M chatfield1

OK, so if you've read any of Michael's other series you would expect a great purpose to the story and not just LitRPG, the MC is just a normal guy trying to find his purpose by playing the game and doesn't have any noble aspirations, but I read Micheals other books and I waited for the greater plot, which only is mentioned in the last 30 seconds so I'm eagerly waiting for the next book. This book is a good beginning but not to Chatfiel's other books standard.
