Story
The last thing Maldynado Montichelu - former aristocrat and current ladies' man - ever wanted was to be left in charge. After all, the team just blew up a train, crashed a dirigible, and kidnapped the emperor. It's kind of an important time. But, with Amaranthe captured by the nefarious Forge coalition, and Sicarius off to find her, the team is lacking in leaders. Also, Sicarius has made it clear that Maldynado's life may be forfeit should anything happen to the emperor while he's gone.

Story
After 10 years at war, Jev Dharrow looks forward to hanging up his sword, relaxing with a cool mug of ale, and forgetting that the love of his life married another man while he was gone. But when his ship sails into port, a beautiful woman wearing the garb of an inquisitor from one of the religious orders waits to arrest him. He’s accused of stealing an ancient artifact with the power to start another war. Jev would gladly hand over the artifact to stop more suffering, but he has no idea where it is or even what it looks like. The inquisitor woman definitely has the wrong person.

After helping my steady dragon Zav with his family problems, I thought life would get back to normal. As normal as it can be when you’re a hit woman responsible for hunting down bad guys. That was before a strange artifact showed up in a bog and turned my ancient dwarven sword into a magical beacon. Now, my enemies can sense it from hundreds of miles away. When you're an outlaw hoping for a pardon, and the emperor personally sends a note requesting that your team kidnap him, you make plans to comply, even if it'll involve infiltrating a train full of soldiers, bodyguards, and spies loyal to a nefarious business coalition that has numerous reasons to hate you.
Even if it means leaving the city right after you've uncovered a secret weapons shipment that might be meant to start a war.

Any additional comments?
I waited 3 years for this to show up in audio format, anywhere. I first bumped into The Emperor's Edge on Podiobooks 3+ years ago. The first 3 books are there. I have been waiting sense then for the next one to show up on Audible. When I finally get it, it sucks me in again and then ends in a cliff hanger. Grrrr. This is such a good tale. Please Audible and Ms. Buroker, don't make us wait to long for the rest of the series.

WELL WORTH THE WAIT
While the new narrator's voice, takes alittle getting used to, being able to listen to the continuation of one of my favorite series, makes it an easy adjustment. The fact that the narrator is an old favorite from a different series, by the same author, makes it that much more enjoyable. This narrative is from an awesome series, which if you haven't read, I'd HIGHLY recommend. Being able to listen to it, is just that much sweeter. I can't wait for book 5. ( Hint, hint)😄

Great story with even better characters
I love all things Lindsay Buroker and this this fourth installment of the EE series is no exception. Before starting this series I never thought of myself as a Sci-Fi / fantasy type reader. One day I was looking for something different and decided to start this series, and I've been hooked ever since.
The story is interesting and full of non-stop action and the characters are well developed.

I love Lindsay
Just a fantastic story. Our heroes are getting powerful and we now have an addition and a she is agreat addition. We have move from steampunk and magic (the sciences) and added sci-fi.
Once again our villains seem to have the upper hand but our heroes overcome with love and determination
Vivienne Leheny saves the day with her recording talents. TY Vivienne
Although I love Lindsay and want to marry her some day, I have a minor issue. She sends our heroes into battle but says “no killing”. 60 armored soldiers, who are even shooting at the Emperor and she writes no killing hrmmm. I understand her desires but I kinda struggle with this. Sorry
Now she leaves Amoranth(sp) in the hands of the scariest villain and ends the book. Gunna have nightmares

One of my favorite action scenes of all-time...
I read a lot, I listen to audiobooks every day, and Lindsay Buroker is almost unbelievably skilled! This book has one of the best action scenes I've ever read! I would have been willing to spend more than just one credit on this audiobook. I just wish the rest of the books in the series were available in audio format - there's only one more on Audible after this one.

Fantastic Epic Fantasy Steampunk
Wonderful book, however, after finishing book 3, with such a cliffhanging of "Let's kidnap the king," this book sure took a long time to get there. The journey there was fantastic, definitely, but after the last book I was primed and ready, and then realized, hmm, looks like it's going to be a while. I love the characters, and you grow to love them more and more as the series wears on. One thing that has been disappointing about this series, is you see the King's POV during the first book, and it's great, and you love the king, but books 2-3 and most of 4, you don't see what's been going on with the king. I was really hoping to see the king in books 2 & 3, so when 3 ended in the cliffhanging it did, I was ready, then had to wait most of the book before seeing him again. But, overall, I love the series, and anyone who loves a good, long, epic fantasy series, especially with a bit of steampunk mixed in, like Warcraft with steam engines and riflemen, will love this series.
This narrator does a fantastic job bringing these characters to life. In the beginning, it was different getting used to a new narrator, but I understand the original wasn't available. It seems this narrator did her research, and really brought the tone of the characters from the original narrator's three books, into this book. She did a fantastic job.

non stop edge of the seat action!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would absolutely recommend this audiobook, Lyndsay's ability to create a world full of action and humour with strong lead female characters and side characters that have depth enough you feel for them with every plot twist and turn definitely make this a must "read" book
Who was your favorite character and why?
Amaranthe is my favourite without a doubt her feisty, never say die attitude and sense of humour make me a true believer!
What does Vivienne Leheny bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
when I heard starla wasn't available to narrate this book my heart sank! she was absolutely outstanding in the first 3 books and I've abandoned other series that have swapped narrators mid series because I couldn't acclimatise to the new narrator.
so imagine my delight when I started to listen to Vivienne's performance, whilst there is a difference between the two narrators I didn't have that disconnect when hearing favourite characters talk I think Vivienne must have listened to starla's narration to match them up, not only that but the performance is outstanding so much so that within half an hour I was totally focused on the story rather than who was telling it and what if any differences there were. 10/10
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
there are many laugh out loud moments in the book as with most of Lyndsay's books and whilst there weren't tear inducing moments there are quite a few tender moments that tug at the heart strings!
Any additional comments?
this series isn't paid for by amazon or audible, it's paid for by the author out of her own pocket because the likes of me have pestered her for it, so why not give it a shot, I loved every minute of it and I'm sure I'm not alone

Fun, fast, easy listen
My rating is for the series overall and not necessarily just this entry. Easy going and fast paced. Enjoyed it a lot as a light listen. Brandon Sanderson this is not. But that is what I like. I am only annoyed that they changed the covers of the series after Blood and Betrayal so I thought that is where the store came to a close. But it does not.

Slow...........................
I love Lindsay Buroker books and have read several of her series but this one I just couldn't get into. I rarely leave a book half way through but it just didn't grip me the way her other books have. Books 1-3 were ok but by the time I got to book 4 I was tired of the characters and didn't really care about them. Each book was basically the same as the previous book and the story didn't move on fast enough. I am currently reading the Dragon Gate series and have also read the Secret of the Sword series, The Beginnings Series plus lots of others and have loved them. Don't be put off reading other Lindsay Buroker books if you feel the same as me about this series - it just didn't click with me.

Akstyr's Story
Book 4 gives us some of Akstyr's, background; His childhood; his betrayal of Sicarius and, indirectly, the group; his meeting with his mother and his journey to try and redeem himself, if that is possible.
Sicarius is still his stoic self. Amaranthe's juvenile ways in some situations is a little irritating. I'm not sure telling her crew not to hurt anyone when they are trying to kill them is particularly helpful.
Note to the narrator. What happened to Maldynado? His voice has changed and now sounds similar to Books, which makes things a little confusing. It is not a good idea to change a character's voice in the middle of a series, hence the 4 stars.

I love these books
I bought this series as ebooks and have been collecting the audiobooks because I love them so much. Interesting, multifaceted female characters that aren't over sexualised and a romance that is built with mutual respect are so hard to find. The banter is also very good
