Talking with strangers can be quite challenging for a lot of people. The fear of running out of things to say or making a fool out of yourself can be nerve-wracking. Because of this, most prefer to never take action and simply watch in frustration how those that are better at socializing and conversation take all the accolades, make great connections, and succeed in life with greater ease.

Some people believe that you are either born charismatic, or you aren't. You either have great social skills and are a great conversationalist, or you're not.

But how true is this? Are we really doomed to failure in social settings if we are not naturally extroverted or are currently anti-social?

Full of great advice

This book contained so many great principles and ideas! The authors expressed their views in a way that encourages you to follow them for the sake of character and people not control. As of this review, I have not implemented everything, but one that really stuck out to me was mutual purpose. If we can all agree on a goal, then we can start heading in the right direction. Excellent listen that was well worth my time!

Useful guidance

This book has a lot of useful tools for making headway with all sorts of problems--work or personal. When you find yourself in a situation where these techniques are necessary, I think it might be hard to quickly think of all the steps and procedures that are given. A lot of these techniques are really common sense, but, sadly, common sense isn't really very common.

Helpful guidance

It has some great guidance when you lead a large group of 80 as I do in my profession and giving feedback is always crucial conversations to the individual and the organization. It works for personal life in the family as well. So far, I love this book! Will probably buy copies for my subordinate supervisors under me.

Well researched!

Crucial Conversations will never let you think about tough communication in the same way again. The authors clearly explain how "when it matters most, we're at our worst" - meaning that when we really need to communicate well, we often just habitually go into a state of "silence" or "violence". From these states, we usually mess up those important conversations.
