Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. But there's no one who loves Josh more (except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdalan) and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Why would an artist at the height of his creative powers attempt to take his life... and then walk a mile to a doctor's house for help? Perhaps the most autobiographical (and deliberately least disciplined) of Vonnegut's novels, Slapstick (1976) is in the form of a broken family odyssey and is surely a demonstration of its eponymous title. The story centers on brother and sister twins, children of Wilbur Swain, who are in sympathetic and (possibly) telepathic communication and who represent Vonnegut's relationship with his own sister who died young of cancer almost two decades before the book's publication.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

You Can't Go Wrong with Moore
This early work of Moore's contains everything I've grown to love about his work: fast pace, well-drawn characters, and laugh out loud moments. Just as he has successfully played with the Bible and Shakespeare, here he plays with the great Crow traditions and stories. As the book moved forward, I became more and more engrossed, waiting for my daily walk to see what would happen to the hapless Sam, stuck at the center of a Crow God's whirlwind of a tour through contemporary California. If you are a fan of Moore, you can't miss this one. If you are new, welcome!

A Wonderful and Unforgettable Story!
I just want to say that if you are easily offended by anything or have a stick up your arse - you should probably stay clear of Christopher Moore all together.
Coyote Blue is a fantastic tale of a native Crow Indian after he fled his home reservation as a young man. Denying his heritage and becoming a chameleon (of sorts) the one thing Sam cannot hide from is his spirit guide - Coyote.
Moore weaves humor into a beautiful story making Coyote Blue an epic tale. Poor, Poor Sam...he just wants to live his life, but when Coyote shows up he ends up veered off course into a path he never intended. I full enjoyed every aspect of Coyote Blue: the Humor, the story, the characters, and everything in between. It is hard to even compare Christopher Moore with anyone else..his unique way of storytelling puts him in a class all by himself.
Following Sam throughout this story fighting his path every step of the way really did make me think. How any incident can alter who you are and what matters most in life. We should all be thinking more about this... Sam's personal growth through Coyote Blue might leave you evaluating yourself. Coyote Blue is a truly beautiful piece of work.
This audio book was very nicely done and felt complimentary to the story.

ehhhh...
Yes, if you have read newer Christopher Moore, this one is sure to disappoint. If you are reading it to find out where Moore started out, then it is interesting. You can really see how far he's come in developing characters, dialogue and story.
It's much like reading an early Stephen King novel like Carrie after reading Duma Key. You can see the resemblence, but the maturity shows through in the later writing.

An Early Effort by a Soon to be Great Author
This novel lets you see how Mr Moore's style developed in his early novels. The characteristics which have become his signatures traits can be seen as he develops, they are just not as polished as they would later be. That said, this is still a very good comic novel if one can stop comparing it with Fluke, Bloodsucking Fiends, You Suck, Lamb, Etc... With a body of work like that, an otherwise acceptable early effort doesn't fare as well as it should.
The reason I gave this version three stars is the narrator. He lacked the voice acting skills required to do this tale justice. Susan Bennett from the Blood Sucking Fiends series was able to bring an entire cast of characters to life as was Fisher Stevens in Lamb and A Dirty Job. I was often doubled over with laughter as I heard those tales acted out, often with the same skill level one might encounter in an old radio drama. To fully appreciate a Christopher Moore audio book voice acting skills are paramount and unfortunately Mr. Jenner doesn't have the range. He is quite competent but much of the humor is lost by his limited vocal abilities.
This is the audio book to buy when you must absolutely have one more Christopher Moore Novel and have emptied the library or all his other efforts (been there). The concept is good and as usual he did a bit of research before writing on the subject. Keep in mind however, he was a relatively young author.

took awhile
I like Moore's books but this one took awhile to get going. I almost gave up before it got interesting in the classic Moore style. Not sure if was the narrator, who also seemed a little bored until the story picked up.
The Minty Fresh character tie in from Dirty Job was intriguing but felt unfinished.

Not bad
I really enjoy Christopher Moore's work. The audible books I've listened to have been entertaining. However, this was not my favorite. I don't think it was the story itself, but the narrator. He was dry, and didn't seem interested in portraying the story effectively. I would recommend, but be prepared to sit through the narrator's dullness to enjoy the story.

3 1/2 stars if I could
I have to agree with the other reviews and say this is not Moore's best book. Still it was pretty good. Character development could have been better, but overall I liked it and looked forward to getting back to listening. The narration was very good as well.

So disappointing from Moore
Christopher Moore is one of my top three authors. Lamb, You Suck, and Fool are all just amazing books that I've listened to more than once.
This book has a terrible story line, is overly silly, and has poorly developed characters.
Don't judge Christopher Moore on this book.

Coyote Blue...........ehh.....so-so
I am a big fan of Christopher Moore and have read almost all of his books. This one was probably my least favorite of them all. Nothing (in particular) about this book is wrong........It just didn't seem to catch the wicked humor with the story and characters. Just my opinion though.
