Publisher's Summary

He needs a break. She needs a date. What do a washed-up LA cop and a celebrity hair stylist have in common? Christmas magic.

Fallon McQueen needs a date to a wedding.

The pickings at the speed dating events she's attended are slim indeed, and it doesn't help that she has someone specific in mind.... Then she meets...Santa Claus.

Jack Cooper is tired of the big city. He needs a break from the streets of LA. But when he stops a deadbeat from breaking and entering, he's simply trying to do a good deed. Now he has a hot but crazy blonde asking him to be her date to a destination wedding. If Jack is going to help, they're going to do it his way, and faster than you can say "road trip" Fallon McQueen is on the trip of lifetime....

Whiney narrator!

Enjoyed the predictable story. Can’t stand the voice and style of narrator.
I’ll try to avoid her for future books.

I wanted to like it

The main female character is utterly unlikable. Whiney, snippy, and rude. 30 minutes in and I could not finish the book.

That voice!

I liked the story somewhat, so I tried to listen. I couldn’t make it to the end because it the narrator. Everything she read sounded like she was irritated or disappointed. The way she drags out the last word of every sentence gives it a whiny quality. It made the love scenes unbearable to listen to. What should have sounded tantalizing just sounded like two people that were mildly interested in each other pointing out things they didn’t like about the other. Like every sentence was said with rolled eyes.
The story itself is interesting, but predictable. A classic, pretend to be my lover and then they fall in love story. Neither main charisma terribly deep. Jack has that protective nature women like to fall for and, the woman, who’s name escapes me, because that’s how interesting she was, is a wounded little lamb who needs someone to stand up for her. Overall, terrible narration, predictable plot, but just enough charm to finish it if you can stand Maxine Mitchell’s performance for 4 hours.

Not my fantasy...

I just can't take these types of stories. I'm all for make believe but this is not my idea of a good time...the ridiculous dialogue, the angst...the female character's voice, so dramatic and whiny. I made it to chapter 13 but I can't stand another minute. I'm bailing.

Great story bad narration

Sadly all of the men sound the exact same. It's hard to tell the difference in the men until their names are mentioned.

If I would have just read the book it would be a solid 5 stars. Just the story I was hoping to hear.

Enjoyable!

I enjoyed this one from beginning to end. The only hitch I found was in how Fallon couldn't find it in herself to stand up for herself. I know that's a self esteem issue and a lot of people face it, but for me it's always been a pet pea. I've never found standing up for myself an issue so forgive me for not having more empathy. I loved Jack, aka Bud, from the first moment he shows on the scene. This is a simple story with little angst set around a Christmas Wedding. Cute enough to make me look for more of this author. Maxine Mitchell does a nice job!

Liked it but didn’t love it

The story was good and the narration was good, but it is overall a 4.4 because it isn’t a story I would listen to or read again. I was glad that our heroine found her hero, but felt like she didn’t get all she deserved and neither did her detractors. I enjoyed the listen though and recommend it to anyone who wants a HEA.

🎧 Fallon and Jack 🎧

A chance meeting leads to a road-trip, a fake relationship and a small town Christmas wedding. (Her ex's, not theirs!)
Feels like an epilogue to an established series that I'd like to listen to.
A sweet and hot romance, beautifully narrated by Maxine Mitchell
