Publisher's Summary

In the fall of 1999, a 22-year-old woman was discovered naked and bleeding on the streets of a small New Mexico town south of Albuquerque. She was chained to a padlocked metal collar. The tale she told authorities - of being beaten, raped, and tortured with electric shock - was unthinkable. Until she led them to 59-year-old David Ray Parker, his 39-year-old fiancee Cindy Hendy, and the lakeside trailer they called their "toy box." What the FBI uncovered was unprecedented in the annals of serial crime: restraining devices, elaborate implements of torture, books on human anatomy, medical equipment, scalpels, and a gynecologist's examination table. But these horrors were only part of the shocking story that would unfold in a stunning trial...

What did I just read & why?!

I read this book by the reviews on this site and other reviews I read. I read more about the victims, the perp, even the neighbors (lol) online before reading this book.
The book drags on with lots of unnecessary personal details about the victims history's, David Ray gets caught, then little bits and pieces of different trials. There is more about a couple of victims. No descriptions of the heroism it took to testify about things so personal & horrifying. Nothing about the many people & impact it had on the different proffesions who worked the case. Then the book wraps up with what happened and it ends. It does give credit to the victims bravery and courage at the end of the book. Naration is great! If you want a basic book about this case this book will do that.

Bloody hell

The accent of the narrator was too much. Unfortunately, Audible declined any chance of an exchange.

Wasn't the greatest....

Read very dryly. The author keeps changing the names he calls character every other page. It is very annoying and distracting.

makes u definitely wonder who ur neighbors are!

I enjoyed this book. the 1st chapter kept my interest the most. it seemed to get a little dry after that but definitely able to finish. I haven't heard of this case so was very shocked on how evil a human can b. actually how the evil of 1 person can spread to others n follow. narrator was easy to listen to but like I stated the writing would seem to lose my interest when going on n on about certain things.( just didn't want to spoil any of the story for ya😉)

“Cries” Delivers

“Cries in the Desert” document Ed nets the story of sexual sadist and serial killer David Parker Ray. It is well written and well performed. I listened to the whole book in one day because I found it fascinating.

Interesting but a little sensationalist

Probably the last third of the book is the most interesting detailing the trial and shenanigans there within.
