Now a major Britbox TV show

Detective Inspector Ray Lennox has fled to Miami to escape the aftermath of a mental breakdown induced by occupational stress and cocaine abuse and a harrowing child-sex murder case back in Edinburgh.

But his fiancée, Trudi, is only interested in planning their wedding, and soon Lennox is cast adrift, alone in Florida. A coke-fuelled binge brings him into contact with another victim of sexual predation, 10-year-old Tianna, and Lennox flees across the state with his terrified charge, determined to protect her at any cost. But can Lennox trust his own instincts? And can he handle Tianna, while still trying to get to grips with the Edinburgh murder?

OK but….

Not the best criminal story I’ve listened to - the characters seemed to lack empathy and the way the storyteller tried to bring over the character of each person grated with me, - shame.

Good Story

Took a bit to get in tae. Complex with the football references at times. Also takes a bit to get into Tams American accent.
Possibly a typical Scottish review "no bad".

Unbearable narration

Had to return read so badly. Never been motivated to leave a review before. Sounds like he’s reading to a group of year olds.

That Ending! Wow!

Not an easy listen but very rewarding. Welsh manages to articulate anxiety, depression and trauma in a way that truly impressed from the start.

Welsh's black humour and painful honesty about the human condition is all here and we go from the poetic to the bowels of humanity within sentences.

All the depravity and vice all serves a purpose though as it gives the ending it's power.

Brilliant but harrowing

Brilliant as always from Irvine Welsh but not an easy listen. Fantastic narration as ever by Tam Dean Burn.

Not for the faint hearted.

A dark but very good audiobook.

Some hard hitting themes here and at times it's a difficult listen.

Tam Dean Burn commits fully to his narration role as usual. it takes a while to get used to his voices/accents but is rewarding once you do.

it's definitely not Irvine Welsh's best book but the bar is impossibly hight and in no way does this make it a bad book.

Really enjoyed it.

slow burner

Love Irvine Walsh .
This was a wonderfully crafted tale. The narrator was immense , when Ray is talking to himself is spellbinding.
Fu***ng nonce currency.
Nearly crashed my van laughing.
Great book!

Brilliant

If you know TDB narrations of the Mark Renton series you'll know how good he is.

Book is different from his other works and quite shocking but is really good and narration is as expected. Both Irvine Welsh and Tam Dean Burn should always go hand in hand. So happy TDB narrated this. One of the best Scottish narrators. Really hope Welsh gets Burn to narrate all his books. amazing.

Another gem from the master

Excellent book if your a fan and if your not a fan of IW then I urge you to give it a go. The best narrator on audible couples the story with passion and realism.

Nonsense

I love Irvine Welsh. This book however is his worst, it starts off well enough, in fact the first few hours sound like they are building to some kind of plot. Then about half way through it turns to absolute nonsense with a very linear story line lacking in any kind of gripping story line. It’s absolute tosh. The narrator as always is excellent. No disrespect to him. Disappointed.
