Publisher's Summary

From the multi-award-winning author of The Bridge (BBC) and Marcella (Netflix, ITV) comes a blockbuster new thriller....

A dead wolf

A drug deal gone wrong

A lethal female assassin

Hannah Wester, a detective in the remote Northern Swedish town of Haparanda, finds herself on the precipice of chaos.

When human remains are found in the stomach of a dead wolf, Hannah knows that this summer won’t be like any other. The remains are soon linked to a bloody drug deal that went down just across the border in Finland. But how did the victim end up in the woods outside Haparanda? And where have the drugs and money gone?

Hannah and her colleagues are soon caught up in an increasingly complex investigation. But time is scarce, and they aren’t the only ones looking.

When the secretive and deadly Katja shows up, unexpected and brutal events start to pile up. In just a few days, life in the border town is turned upside down. Not least for Hannah, who is finally forced to confront her own past.

Struggled to keep listening it dragged on.

Story, very slow to start then got better then dragged on again. Looked forward to it ending, but not in a good way! Did not find Hannah, the main character, likeable.
Also, really annoying that, on more than one occasion a character is said to have a shot gun but then, in the next sentence, it's a rifle, oh and then, suddenly it's a shot gun again! They are not the same thing and are not interchangeable!!! Surely this should have been picked up on somewhere along the line?
I have to say though, the narrator was very good.
I would not recommend this book.

Excellent novel! Keen for a sequel

Set up for a possible sequel - and I’m a fan ! This novel is fast paced, suspenseful and intelligently put together. The characters are believable and most are interesting while not always likeable. My only (minor) criticisms are that there are simply too many characters (hard to keep up), the main female cop character is not as stoic as I’d have liked and there were a few loose ends at the end.

Kept me interested all the way through

Nice story with interesting events and twists. Like some others I found the characters a bit hard to keep track of.
Narration was very good.
Only complaint is this appears to be part 1 of the story. Did not really have a satisfying ending. Overall would still recommend.

Although I enjoyed the book but...

I am sure I would enjoy the book a lot more if I could relate to Swedish names- my ignorance, no one else's. Unfortunately this ignorance on my part took away the content of the book since I had a bit of problem following who is who.

Fast and engaging

Interesting well developed characters listened to this in two sittings . Great narration with emphasis in just the right spots . Recommend this without reservations.
