Book is excellent, audio book needs work
I love this series, and I bought the audio series to share it with my boyfriend. The first book's audio quality leaves much to be desired. I also wish there was an unabridged version available. While this version gives a good feel for the overall story, I very much miss the rest (the extra characterization of minor characters, how the guild runs, etc).

Terrible in so many ways
What disappointed you about Crystal Singer?
First (and this is my own stupid fault for not noticing before buying), it's an abridged version. At under three hours, there's less than half the novel here.
Second, the audio quality is truly terrible. It sounds like the reader has their head stuffed in a cotton-lined bucket. Muffled, dull and damned near unlistenable.
What was most disappointing about Anne McCaffrey’s story?
The way half or more of it has been edited out.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The reader might, in other projects, be quite good--but in this one, the terrible quality of the recording overrides anything she might bring to the story.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The audio is bad enough that I haven't been able to finish it, and I'd like a refund so...no.
Any additional comments?
Don't waste your money or credits.

Abridging Ruins This Book
Would you try another book from Anne McCaffrey and/or Adrienne Barbeau?
As long as it is not an abridged version
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Make the recording an unabridged version. To many "little details" that are not important, but really round out the book, are missing from this abridged version. Things like the Symbiant transaction makes the senses so much more sensitive, including eyesite and that is why Killa needed contacts off world.
Which character – as performed by Adrienne Barbeau – was your favorite?
Didn't have one
Did Crystal Singer inspire you to do anything?
no
Any additional comments?
If you have read the book, you will be sorely disappointed in the abridged version. If you have not, you might enjoy, but will have missed so many little things that make the book so much more enjoyable.

Not what I hoped
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The clarity of the download was difficult to listen to. I might have been the American accent but others have been OK. Also the abbreviation has missed all those small personal details that make this a worthwhile author.
Would you be willing to try another book from Anne McCaffrey? Why or why not?
I like her books but will not get another abridged version
Would you be willing to try another one of Adrienne Barbeau’s performances?
Her voice may be OK but the recording was bad
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment verging on sadness at the loss of a good book

A book that I love, CRYSTAL SINGER deserves 2 improvements: to be unabridged, and to be reproduced on good sound equipment. Adrienne Barbeau also deserves good sound equipment. OLD AUDIO
Although I love this series of books by Anne McCaffrey, it was a bit disappointing to realise (after I had purchased them) that the audio was a little distorted with age and seemed very rushed. It did not completely diminish my love of these books but then again, I go back and re-read them every few years so they are very familiar which helped. This audio is for people who know the book only -- for first time listeners, buy something else and read the series for yourself...

Favourite book way too abridged
During my teens, this book took me on a magical journey through the emotions of its main character and her recovery from tragedy. I was so excited listen to it agin on Audible but it didn’t sound right. I grabbed my paperback version and compared to find way too much material skipped. I listened through and it had lost much of its sparkle. Very sad. Anne was renowned for her ability to paint images with words and this has a real pragmatic feel to it despite fairly good voice talent. Sadly not recommended.

Where is the rest??
I I remember reading the story when I was younger I'm somewhat disappointed and I'm pretty sure that it was a lot longer than what is actually in this particular reading. I'm going to have to check but I'm pretty sure that more than half the story is missing.
