Zane Phillips mistook me for his dog walker. It shouldn’t surprise me that the man with a suit more expensive than my rent would assume that I was there to serve him. The positive? I put him in his place. The negative? I missed my job interview because of it. Now I find out he’s a rich Australian entrepreneur, and he wants to make up for tanking my interview. Yes, he’s impossibly hot - but he’s also an arrogant jackass - so...no thanks. But after a little white lie I tell spirals out of control, I’m somehow offered the chance to play Zane’s girlfriend to help promote his new dating website....

Story
I knocked up my best friend's sister. Let's start with how she decided to inform me and Pacey the news...together. Imagine that nightmare. I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting, and then bam! I'm going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist. Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Now I'm finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend's little sister.

I was never supposed to see him again. Him being the man wearing the perfectly tailored suit, who oozed an intoxicating mixture of wealth, rebellion, and sex appeal. One night. No strings. No names. Still riding the high from last night, I walk in to meet my new client, and he’s wearing that same dangerous smirk. Yes, I’m consulting for Callahan Sharpe. That Callahan Sharpe. Billionaire heir who abides by no rules, bucks convention, and is determined to complete one final project to honor his late father’s legacy. Luckily, and unluckily for me, I’m tasked to help.

Story
At first, the request seemed simple - sign a new athlete to the agency. Then I found out the new athlete was none other than the most wanted man in hockey today: Hunter Maddox. Gifted. Sexy. At the top of his game. And the only man who has ever broken my heart. If signing him will help save our family business, I’ll swallow my pride and do what’s asked. But when it becomes clear his uncharacteristic antics off the ice are a hint of something deeper, keeping things strictly professional between us becomes more than complicated. But I know better than to cross that line.

Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano. Number one: He’s obnoxious. Number two: We were enemies more than a decade ago. Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend. I could go on and on, really. When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment, and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents, the grandson turns out to be Troy. Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice - the only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face, in between our many arguments.

Am I friends with JP Cane? Ha! That's laughable. Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can't be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we're not friends. He's annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons...multiple times a day. So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we're sharing the same air, 24-7. We're talking full-fledged working roommates.

Publisher's Summary
From New York Times best-selling author K. Bromberg comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.
“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”
Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville - at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade ring in my ears every time a towns-person brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.
Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons - sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past. But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it. What’s one night of sex going to hurt... right?
I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves. That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up. Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.
I’ll give her the one night she asks for - like that’s a hardship - but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

Beautiful!
What a beautiful story! So heart wrenching!!!
There are triggers in this book for child abuse.
As a mother, my heart was torn apart in parts of this story. Then to have my heart put back together word by word.
No review could ever do this story justice!
Beautifully written and very tough subject matter handled tenderly.

Not for the weak of heart
Grant and Emmy have a history that expands twenty years.
Except, years ago Grant broke a pinky promise with Emmy.
Emerson's father was molesting his daughter and much worse.
Do not read this book if you can't handle this.
Years later, Grant is "Officer Sexy", dubbed by the local women. With good reason.
He's ridiculously handsome. And kind.
During one of his calls, he comes upon a little girl who is going through similar problems. Only her father likes to hit her and his wife.
Emmy runs a sky diving school.
While trying to get a loan, the bank officer, who is lower than low.
He'll guarantee a loan... if Emmy has sex with him.
When she refuses, he informs her that the school has been sold.
All in all, through all the darkness, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I cried for Emmy as an eight year old. And I cried for the little girl who's father beat her.
And I laughed as Grant's brothers, Grady and Grayson, invade his house regularly.
Brothers will be brothers and all that.... they, along with his parents are a force to be reckoned with.
Enjoy Cuffed.
The ending will make you really smile!
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell put in wonderful readings, as usual.

Emotional reunion...
Just a short warning about triggers present in this story, so if you are sensitive to child molestation as a trigger this story may not be for you. The hero and heroine in this story were best friends as children, until something happens and suddenly she is gone. Years later, she reappears in their hometown where he is now a police officer. The heroine still blames him for her departure and feels he betrayed her confidence. The rebuilding of their relationship is what the story is about and the ability of her to trust in anyone is the question. I enjoyed this book very much and the narration was excellent.

Sparkle
What a gem this book is! There are so many facets to this well written book. The story has so many emotions in it. The main theme I took away from the story was "Define or Fuel", with tragedy choosing to fuel the character, not define it. The topic of child molestation is difficult to hear about, but the author wrote this story in such a beautiful and gripping way. I loved how K.Bromberg wrote such truism into this book like trust is a hard thing to earn back, love hard in the present and not need to know the details of the past, heads up, wings out. Another aspect I found moving in this book was how the choice to do right, brought focus to what needs changed. Both narrators delivered so much with their performance, it was perfect. I received a review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and both narrators, as each one is so talented. I can't wait to listen to the second book in this series! This is a standalone listen and does not end in a cliffhanger.

Regardless of the woman's history
I got sick of her whininess. I have noticed this in a number of women in stories recently and thought--can I stand to read through this shrill whiny character? It resolves ok but I really had a hard time stomaching chapter after chapter of her responses.

Good book but not fan of narrator Maxine Mitchell
Loved the narrator Joe Arden for Grant, but didn't like Maxine as the other narrator for Emerson. I felt like Emerson was the biggest winer and couldn't figure out what she wanted through the whole book for her life and Grant. Maxine sounded to old for Emerson age in the book. I actually preferred to listen to Joe Arden narrate the book more. I hope when they bring the audio for Combust book out that Maxine is not the narrator again for that next book.
Now that this was said. I'm still a huge fan of K Bromberg books but this book didn't get me feeling that I loved it and would read it again like her other books make me feel. So that is why I rated this a 3 star.

Emotional, realistic and memorable
A fantastic story with wonderful characters that will touch you in a way that you will remember long after you finished reading
The story line can cause triggers of sexual abuse and broken trust so read with caution. However, in case of the eight boy in this story, breaking the trust of is friend was the best thing for her. a very emotional, realistic and memorable story.

It was a little slow to get started, but once the story got flowing, I was invested.

Cuffed
This was a fantastic read/Listen though I felt that the story dragged with the drama, I still recommend that you listen some plot twist I didn't expect made it one of the best the I've listened to the Narrator's were great as always.

That'll be a pass
The write up & reviews for this book and Combust, were the reason for trying this author 's work for the first time.
I tried, really tried, more than once, to get into this book. The premise was good, although the syntax a bit of a challenge to get around.
The biggest problem I felt I had to try & overcome was with the narration. I have enjoyed Joe Arden's work on very many previous books, however the narrator for the female character had a cadence to her voice that made listening very difficult, akin to ears bleeding.
For the first time, in all the many books I have read and those I have listened to with Audible, I admitted defeat and had to abandon it.
I hope other readers / listeners have better luck.

Emotional, sexy romance
I love friends to lovers dual POV romance, I also love Kristy Bromberg’s writing. Therefore I loved this book. This series follows three brothers, and book 1, ‘Cuffed’ follows the eldest brother Grant Malone (or ‘Officer Sexy’ as some would call him), a Police Officer with a need to protect embedded deep in his soul. He even feels the need to protect at the age of 8 when he does his best to help his best friend Emerson Reeve. Unfortunately circumstances mean that Emmy had to move away. Fast forward 20 years and Emmy’s returned and it would appear that they are going to be more than friends, the question is..........can Emmy ever trust Grant again? An emotional read with lots of humour and sexy time. The narration by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell was perfect.

Really struggled to finish this book
Nearly did not finish, but forced myself to in order to give an informed review. Blurghhhh it was a tough slog to get through it. You’d expect this to be because of the references to abuse and the emotional nature of the book - but no. That whole concept fell flat. I struggled to finish it because it was so boring and really dragged. There was no emotional connection with the characters, you’re supposed to believe that the couple have something special between them but no matter how many times the book tells you this fact, you don’t feel it. It’s full of descriptions of emotional moments and attempted drama, but you never actually FEEL it. The drama towards the end was just too much as well - really made me groannnnn. More like a 5 afternoon movie (bit like a made for TV Hallmark movie for those non-Brits out there). I could see what the book was trying to do but in the end it was just full of clichés and boredom.
Reviewers who say how emotional and heart wrenching it was really need to read some better books. If you want stories dealing with recovering from abuse/rubbish childhoods, trust and romance that give you all the feels and a drag you in to the story then you should try an author like Colleen Hoover instead. This book wasn’t even a guilty pleasure with being rubbish - just plain, simple rubbish.
Joe Arden is a decent narrator, but Maxine Mitchell’s narration makes the book even worse than the writing because of her intonation (gets really annoying) and making every single sentence sound like Emmy is an angsty school teacher breaking bad news to a small child (save it for the angsty sections please ..if at all). She’s wrecked several books I’ve listen to (and I’ve listened to way over 1000 so I’m familiar what good narration sounds like) so I really should learn from it and avoid the books she narrates.

could not put it down
could not put down. fantastic writer but find the male narrator's choice slightly annoying. ive heard him before and something about the way he ends sentences does not sound natural to the ear and is a little off putting. regardless it was worth pushing through and finishing as the story is so captivating. perfectly written ups and downs escalating to perfect moments you've been waiting for. really enjoyed.

Head up, wings out 4.5 stars
What an amazing story. The characters of Grant and Emmy tug at your heart and soul.
It took me a while to complete given some of the content but it was well worth the ride.

narration
im sure I would have enjoyed the book but the cadence and autotune tone of maxine mitchell's narration was too jarring. my error as i could have listened to the short sample.
