I left a big-city police department for a fresh start in a smaller town. Less crime. Less murder. But three months later, I’ve been handed the murder investigation of the most hated man in town. The list of potential suspects is as long as Santa’s naughty list, but one name keeps popping up. Maddie Baker. She’s infuriating as hell, but is she a cold-blooded murderer? My instincts tell me no, yet I can’t exactly trust those. The last time I let myself presume someone was innocent, I ended up with a bullet wound and a broken heart.

There’s a literary niche for all tastes including those who think that either Agatha Christie wasn’t funny enough or that PG Wodehouse didn’t feature anywhere near as many baffling murders as he could have. The Case of the Canterfell Codicil is a classic, cozy, locked-room mystery written in the style of an homage to PG Wodehouse.

Publisher's Summary
Baking. It can get a guy killed.
On the trail of a master criminal, a retired detective and his former police dog expect a quiet time in the Cumbrian village of Keswick. However, when Rex picks up a scent upon arriving at their B&B...the discovery of a body in a shallow grave draws them into a mystery someone does not want solved.
With help from a local amateur sleuth and her dog, our mystery-busting duo sets out to investigate two cases at the same time.
Along the way, they’ll identify a host of possible suspects and have to answer some big questions:
- Who stood to gain from the victim’s death?
- Was it revenge or greed that motivated the killer?
- Just how many sausages can a German shepherd eat in one sitting?
As they battle to reveal the truth, it’s clear someone is working to cover it up, and if they don’t figure this out in time, someone might not live to see another day.
In their most deadly adventure yet, can Rex and Albert sniff out the clues? The answer will be shocking!

A Great Part of A Great Series
I discovered Albert and Rex when Patricia Fisher went back home, and I am so glad I did. These are completely unrealistic, very silly and wonderfully entertaining. I would watch a TV show of Albert and Rex easily, but these will suffice. Especially since the voice actor has matches the voice I imagined Albert having perfectly.

Wonderful
I LOVE these books. Albert Smith, the main character in this series is so identifiable and so smart. The star however is Rex,Albert’s dog. Their relationship is so heartwarming. It is so fun to hear parts of the story from Rex’s point of view. I can’t wait for the next book - and immediately started this one as soon as it was available. There are unexpected twists. The narrator is incredible and helps to make the stories both fun snd exciting. .

Cumberland Sausage Shocker
Albert and Rex are once again on the road, well in this case train, to another hopefully clue in the case Albert is chasing. He finds a B&B and had arrived when Red send to go off the rails when he catches a smell he was trained to find and follow but as always his human is slow on the uptake. Now Albert and Rex are involved in a murder case that they have help with in a woman with a retired police dog also! Partners in cringe fighting and two trained dogs--- what could go wrong!?!?
Charles Robert Fox once again brings Albert and entourage to life!

Rex is at it again!
Albert is in Cumberland to discover their wonderful sausages and explore his hunch on someone he has named the Gastrothief. Although these books are in a series, they are written in such a way that they can be stand alone and you won't feel lost at all. Even though Rex is totally on the case, he becomes so obsessed with sausages that he manages to get himself into quite a pickle! This one had me laughing way too hard!

That warm and cosy feeling
Albert and Rex continue with their gastronomic adventures. This can be listened to stand alone but you’re best starting from book 1.
It’s more of the same gentle murder intrigue.
I did like that Rex now has got more of a voice than in the earlier books, that he meets another former police dog and his heroics isn’t he story a really touching.
The voice performance is very good and brings the story to life.
Only very minor gripe is that Keswick isn’t a village, but in all other respects is a lovely place to be in.
