Not the full series

I bought this thinking it was the completed series, but its not. This is the first 3 books and although many issues are resolved, it still leaves you hanging for the war to come. The characters are likeable, loyal, honorable and have flaws. They have bonded into a family. The chapters swtch POV between multiple characters. Narrator does a good job. Story is paced well and voices are good. There is plenty of action. I know now that book 4 is available and ends in a cliffhanger based on reviews. It is a good value with an interesting story and engaging characters. Be aware the story continues and is not complete.

Way to confusing.

I never leave reviews, but this just wasn’t in for me at all. The writer kept going between characters, and the narrator never changed her voice for any of them. I didn’t even get an hour in because I couldn’t take it.

What a great time!

I rarely read books where I like and care about all the main characters and their side characters. But this series has such a fabulous group, I’m totally cheering for them all 100% of the time. Even with the different POV’s I’m not bored or itching to skip forward. Well written, great narration, believable magic and an overall great group of characters. I can’t wait to read more!

An adventure of hope, loss, magic, and mystery

Though a bit more youthful than most fantasy adventure I read, I find that Amber’s pack of misfits have truly provided a believable, exciting view into their world of werewolves, witches, elves, vampires, and demons.
I recommend you take the time to join Stephanie Foxe’s cast of characters in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and enjoy Amanda Dolan’s artful rendition of her world.

Well done, written and told

Audible saves my life. I work at a factory unloading trucks and other duties for 10 hour shifts. We are allowed to listen on a speaker and I am fortunate to be alone in my department. I work overnight and do a lot of computer work in between throwing a fast line. I need to have books that are YA for content and ones that I can really focus on but won't lose that if I need to move away for a minute or so. I go through A LOT of fantasy/supernatural books with audible.

My first consideration, unfortunately, is always how long it is. Not for the credit so much as for my inability to be able to shift when ended while working. The box sets do this for me. As stated previously, I was quite put-out to know the box set was not complete. Not for any other reason but that I was in the middle of a shift and unable to change to another book when this ended hanging.

The other important factor is the narrator. I have a few and this particular reader is one of my favorites. I hate when characters are exaggerated and even more sarcastic then need be or two much of a bite when I know the character was written with a different intent. I love how this narrator is able to allow a listener to still have their own imagination with what they take from the story; something most important with a book.

Number one pet peeve in a book-Don't assume a reader is an idiot and can't draw conclusions. This is a flaw I always find in these books but this one is really free from that. The characters are not written in an exaggerated, stereotypical box and not overly one way or another. The plot carries creativity and believability while the characters have a lot of depth but are able to loved and involved with right off the bat. I have no favorites, no character that REALLY sets me on edge as is typical in other books and the chemistry with each of them is wonderful. The plot is not based on stupid misunderstandings, drama that is 'filler' but rather fairly fast-moving, well-diologued and clear in the thought of each individual character and how they feel.

The scenes are well-developed, consistent and remain true to the part of each character with a conflict and resolution that leaves a reader really involved without the distraction of holes in the plot or contradictions. This is another problem I have with a lot of books. There is intimacy and some relationships but they are not engulfing the story and they are not too explicit (not a problem really but with work, I have had the situation where I could not control nor foresee a particularly explicit, non-ending scene.

Oh, Angel. That character could have been a disaster but instead I found him to be the most interesting, believable and complex character worth his place in the book. The relationship that develops with him and Amber, which I foresee developing further in the fourth book (just purchased after work), is truly developed well. I found those two my favorite 'pages and chapters' throughout. They were humorous, light with evolving depth, chemistry without it being overly dramatic or tiresome and deep. I really loved this set and may just listen again. It is honestly rare that I've really loved a series like this of the many I listen to. I also really appreciate the box sets so that I can work with a longer storyline to look forward to at a very tiring job.

Excellent

Brilliant world building, great action and fantastic characters. The writing is good and well paced and the story is fresh and interesting. Strong, sensible female lead that doesn’t shrink from a hard task and isn’t afraid to lean on her pack for help. The reader was good, most characters had their own voice, though she put inflections and pauses in when they weren’t needed.

Great story

It took me a while to get into these books as the writing style was different to most books I listen to, however once I got used to it, I loved them.

Absolutely love this series

A great series. Full of adventures and challenges. Characters are developed and stories tie well together. Can seem a little disjointed at the beginning as characters voices are separated but it’s becomes seem less once you are involved within the sort line. Looking forward to more. Fabulous

Fun new series

If I’m honest, I picked this book because it was long, so I knew it would be good value. I found it in the ‘top picks for you’ section.
It is a bit different to most books I’ve read in that there’s a lot of ‘head hopping’. It’s an ensemble cast and the story is told from lots of different perspectives. So it took a little time to get used to, but it was worth it and now I’m hooked. It’s got excellent world building and you care about all the characters. The individual books aren’t really stand alone volumes, so everything doesn’t always tie ip at the end. Think of them as volumes in a single story and you’ll be fine. More please!!!
