Publisher's Summary

Contains books one and two of the Cyborg Corps series.

Cyborg Corps, book 1

Warren Prescott is a veteran amputee who can’t catch a break. When the VA calls him in for an experimental procedure to restore his leg, he is amazed. Finally, he will be able to feel the warm sand beneath his feet again - or so the doctor promises. Too bad it was all a lie.

The next time Warren opens his eyes, four centuries have passed. Somehow, he’s standing in the middle of a battlefield, stuck on a distant alien planet, far away from home. To make matters worse, his body appears to be entirely synthetic. He’s a cyborg, nearly indestructible and enhanced for extreme combat.

With centuries of time missing from his memory and no idea how to get home, Warren is left with no choice but to fight against those who would see him enslaved, and free as many of his brothers as possible along the way.

Built to Last, book 2

The shackles have been broken. The war for freedom has begun. Warren's new colony has become an oasis in a war-torn galaxy, but new enemies and a distant call for help threaten to wrench peace from his grasp.

As more cyborgs are discovered throughout the galaxy, the fight for freedom expands beyond the colony of Reotis. Warren's search for answers grows, along with his thirst for independence.

He will not be made a slave ever again. He vows to live, to survive, to rebel. No matter the cost.

A well-thought out and fun story!

Guns, cyborgs and interplanetary ground warfare. What’s not to like? There’s a lot of asking of important questions about life, freedom and responsibility but is well worth the action that comes after. Recommended for anyone who enjoys a good sci-fi war story.

Entertaining, but ...

Entertaining and well-narrated. Enjoyable to listen. Entertainment "fast food", comprising an action plot sequence with simple characters and little depth. The sub-plot with the AI on the moon has been totally ridiculous. The author could have done better than that.

It's JN Chaney - Quick Writing, Simple, but Fine

Turn to JN Chaney when you want a book that's quick and to the point.

I'm sure these books are fantastic for some people. There's not an awful lot of introspection here amongst the main characters, except in trying to be, say, better than the other guys. Not an awful lot of worldbuilding. There are just events.

And some of these events strike me as unrealistically focused around the main character, perhaps an attempt at keeping excitement or something. Book 2 in particular had a visit to another world that's had me immediately rolling my eyes over the ridiculous coincidences of enemy troops being present right there in the wilderness at their dropship's landing zone, etc. etc. etc.

I just tend to think that it's a better book when you have more well realized characters, more worldbuilding, some other hook, and perhaps... a bit more careful or realistic outlining and planning? But for what it's worth, this book and author are perfectly good at being what they are.

More power to you if it's your thing. I consider this 'ok'.

Narration was good.

Nice

This has a good story line and you can't help rooting for poor Warren as the book goes on .
But I will say that someone needs to actually talk to the enemy A.I s . I get the impression they may get a lot further with its help.

Very simple but entertaining

Story was very straightforward and simple to follow. Narration was excellent. Very enjoyable for a no nonsense tune out novel. Worth the listen.
