My granddaughter loved it .. So I had to read

My granddaughter had told me about this great book she had just read. So knowing that the title had a familiar ring, I googled it. To my surprise it was the same book that one of my favorite Fred Astaire movies was based upon. I rewatched the movie on Netflix and then had Audible read me the book. It was great! Can't wait to have her watch the old movie!

Very Happy Story

I remember reading this about 40 years ago and was thrilled to find it in Audibles.

This story is mainly letters. An orphan girl is given a scholarship to attend college. The only requirement is that she write to Mr. John Smith once a month so he can judge her learning.

It is a marvelous story that is uplifting to hear as this young hard working young lady learns and discovers a world that would never been available to her if things had gone differently.

There is a smidgen of romance, but nothing overt.

It is important to note the story takes place in the early 1900's, Women were not allowed to vote.

Simply loved it

I've always loved the story
but the narrator has made it so much better.
She sounds exactly like the Judy I've imagined all these years.

I remember reading it when I was younger and then seeing the movie. the book is much much better. of course if you like to see dancing, then the movie might be better.

The narrator was a delight to listen to.

Simply refreshing!!!

Novel approach to story-telling; a introduction to a classical education thrown in for good measure.

A story to keep always 😊

I've read the book a couple of times, seen the movie... And this is at least the second time I've listened to this recording. I get such a nice warm feeling from it that I choose it when I need to cheer myself up.

Sweet, if a bit dated

I love the independence and spunk of Judy! It does seem a bit dated but it was so different in the past, and it makes me appreciate how far we've gone in women's rights (yet still so far to go, sigh). All in all a charming story read excellently by Julia!

Gorgeous book!

If you could sum up Daddy-Long-Legs in three words, what would they be?

Wonderful, bright, heart-warming

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh on pretty much every page (so to speak). I had so much admiration for the main character, Judy, I would highly recommend this book for both mother and daughter!

A Childhood Favourite!

I really love the character development and narrative structure despite the fact that the story is entirely told through one person's letters.

Perfect feel-good book

This is perfect listening if you're in the mood for a book that both entertains and uplifts the spirits. And (unlike all too many of Audible's choices) the choice of narrator is perfect - enhancing, rather than detracting from the listening experience. Buy and enjoy!

Perfect narration

I read this book as a child about 20 years ago and it was a favourite for a long time. I still find it a really sweet and delightful story. I must say that the audible version is so beautifully enhanced by Julia Whelan's perfect narration. I'll most definitely check out other books narrated by her.
