Enter a cruel palindrome world: a symmetric place where disturbing situations displace the common; where good acts transmute to evil ones; where windows and mirrors are interchangeable. Within, characters influence each other through macabre arrangements of involuntary happenstance, and learn the inevitabilities of coincidence. Best one yet!
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This third installment of the Metal Magic series, finds you with a demon summoning rocker who is wreakign havoc. It was neat to follow the premise through different forms of rock/metal music where the results differ with the style of music. It's the longest, and best in my opinion, of the series. Definitely worth checking out.

Great Story!
This is the final story in the Metal Magic trilogy, and works great in that collection or as a standalone work. Brian Barr writes highly imaginative, weird fiction that really draws you into his world. If you're a fan of short horror fiction and haven't read him before, well you really should check him out. And if you have, then you already know you should probably listen to this, so you might as well just go ahead and do it.
My only complaint is that the narrator needs to work on his delivery. There are awkward pauses in the middle of almost every sentence, and it interrupts the flow. It was one of those things that made it obvious he was reading a text rather than just performing it naturally. However, the narrator's actual voice is perfect for the story, so after a while I got used to it. The story was worth the effort it took to do so. Still, it would have been perfect if he had read more naturally.
I received this audiobook for free at my request and bought the Kindle version myself to go with it. I have voluntarily left this review. It is totally worth the price.

Succubus Slayer crashes concert
Installment 3 of the Death and Axes saga by Barr pretty much makes you never want to go to a Metal concert ever again. You might be safe with a Carpenters Tribute band, but man, even they probably have demonic ties. This story centers on a man who summons a dark succubus for what all the legends say they provide, fame and fortune. Their symbiosis is the main theme of the tale. How you can get what you want, and then decide it isn't what you need anymore. That street runs both ways.
It's a good riff on a Bowie-esque character, who grows to hate the personae he has created with the soul sucking creature he summons, and the consequences don't play out well for anyone tangently involved. Barr has escalated this series as it has progressed, and you are always left wanting more. He keeps upping the stakes, and like a true rocker makes thigs bigger, louder, and flashier with each installment. My only regret, I really loved the concept of the guitar grimoire, and would love to see it play out more of a role in future installments of this series. Souls sucking demons that rip into ticket buyers are awesome, but I also loved the concept of some chords allowing you to perform metal magic. No matter, Barr knows how to set the proverbial concert stage of doom.
Gregory does another amazing job narrating. I always enjoy listening to him, and know that he is going to take me to new places with new people in his repetoire. He hasn't disapointed yet, and manages to make you feel for Mattie, the glam rocker of the story. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

No one escapes Lilith
Last installment in the trilogy ends on a strong note. This time the story goes through various times and styles of metal. In this case the grimoire is used at the start and the main character is left to suffer the consequences for the rest of it. It starts in medias res and then works it's way back up to it. For a second I though he would end ok. Great listen!

Beware the Death Metal Grimoires... Part 3
'Damned in Glam' is the final instalment in Brian Barr's 'Metal Magic' Trilogy, so if you haven't checked out the previous instalments, I recommend you get to it. The Death Metal Grimoires continue to wreak havoc across unsuspecting musical venues, and this one delivers the gore and unexpected consequences that come from messing with dark forces I've come to expect from the Metal Magic series. I enjoyed listening to 'Damned in Glam', and found it to be an improvement over 'Punk Pandemonium', largely because it is longer and I think that gave Barr more room to develop the characters and setting. Rick Gregory continues to narrate, and I think does a solid job. His delivery is still a bit deadpan at times, but he delivers an overall enjoyable performance.
I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Damned in Glam
Some people will do anything to make their dreams come true and that is just what one man does. Soon he begins to regret his actions but now it is too late. As he continues to enjoy fame he longs to rid himself of the succubus he has let in. Can he ever find a way to escape the evil he let in or will It finally cost him more than he is willing to pay?
This short story pulls you in right from the start. It moves along quickly and keeps you engaged all the way to the end. As quick as this story is it still packs a punch. I enjoyed listening to this story, narrator Rick Gregory does a nice job of bringing the author’s world and its characters to life. The story comes alive as we listen to the main character learn the lesson of being careful of what you wish for the hard way.
