Across two parallel narratives, Murakami draws listeners into a mind-bending universe in which Lauren Bacall, Bob Dylan, a split-brained data processor, a deranged scientist, his shockingly undemure granddaughter, and various thugs, librarians, and subterranean monsters collide to dazzling effect. What emerges is a novel that is at once hilariously funny and a deeply serious meditation on the nature and uses of the mind.

Story
From the internationally acclaimed Haruki Murakami comes a mind-bending new collection of short stories, all touching beautifully on love and solitude, childhood and memory...all with a signature Murakami twist. The eight stories in this new book are all told in the first person by a classic Murakami narrator. From memories of youth, meditations on music, and an ardent love of baseball, to dreamlike scenarios and invented jazz albums, together these stories challenge the boundaries between our minds and the exterior world.

Story
Here is a short, sleek novel of encounters, set in Tokyo during the witching hours between midnight and dawn, and every bit as gripping as Haruki Murakami's masterworks The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and Kafka on the Shore. At its center are two sisters: Eri, a fashion model slumbering her way into oblivion, and Mari, a young student soon led from solitary reading at an anonymous Denny's toward people whose lives are radically different from her own.

Story
The 24 stories that make up Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman generously express the incomparable Haruki Murakami’s mastery of the form. Here are animated crows, a criminal monkey, and an ice man, as well as the dreams that shape us and the things for which we might wish. From the surreal to the mundane, these stories exhibit Murakami’s ability to transform the full range of human experience in ways that are instructive, surprising, and entertaining.

Publisher's Summary
Combine an offbeat cast of characters with Murakami's idiosyncratic prose, and the result is the remarkable story Dance Dance Dance: high-class call girls billed to MasterCard, a psychic 13-year-old dropout has a passion for talking heads, and meet a hunky matinee idol doomed to play dentists and teachers.
Don’t forget the one-armed beach-combing poet, an uptight hotel clerk and one very bemused narrator caught in the web of advanced capitalist mayhem.

Brilliant - a Murakami 'Masterpiece of weirdness'
What about Rupert Degas’s performance did you like?
Rupert Degas' voice acting is superb, and frankly with the number of speaking characters in a Murakami book, anything less than superb would not deliver the convincing portrayals that Mr Degas does. Each character is distinctly voiced and immediately recognised whenever they appear.
Any additional comments?
If you've enjoyed any of Murakami's other books, Dance Dance Dance will not disappoint, and if you haven't read/listened to any of his other books, this is as good a place to start as any. Murakami's genius is to make the extraordinary seem commonplace. Several familiar themes appear - a nameless first-person narrating protagonist who is a divorced man in his 30s, a precocious teenaged-girl, beautiful but mysterious women, intense darkness, trans-muralisation - oh and a dead cat makes a brief appearance too. All these (and more - but avoiding spoilers) woven into a compelling narrative. I read somewhere that the first thing you should do when you finish reading a Murakami novel is to start it again, and on second listening, Dance Dance Dance delivers up a wealth of detail, the significance of which was lost on me first time around. Brilliant work!

Haruki Murakami at his best!
If you like Murakami then there is no reason you won't love this, he doesn't leave things so open ended as he can be know for and he's characters are as always believable, flawed, and wonderful. Rupert Degas is probably the best narrated I've listened too. He's ability to bring quite surreal and often difficult characters and places to life is only surpassed by Murakami's ability to create them.

Good audio reading!
the Narrator was really good.
The story is typical of Murakami, 2 interconnected worlds, a bit of a thriller.
However, I will have to read it for myself to appreciate it plainly because sometimes just listening did not allow me to concentrate on more intricate thoughts.

Having read many of Murakami's novels, listening to this intensified the eerie air of the book. We took several weeks to listen and savour the story. Rupert Degas brought each of the characters to life. A deep and intense experience.

Murakami magic
i am a Murakami fan but of course, some are better than others and this one is great. Murakami is witty, insightful, imaginative and well, different. he really likes to play with reality, stetching and challenging The narration is wonderful, superb voices for the different characters. Great ending. Finished it in 2 days, couldn't stop listening.

Fantastically narrated
Murakami doesn't disappoint.
A great story is something you come to expect, but this book has a wonderful rhythm. It's also fascinating to be invited to ponder on the philosophy guiding the main characters.
However what also made this book stand out was the narrator. Rupert Degas has a great voice, and his passion makes the work come alive. He builds on the poetry of the work, changing pace and style, inviting a really close relationship with the characters in the book.
