For Elizabeth Bennet, Charlotte is the friend who is—annoyingly—always right. Colonel Fitzwilliam is the mischievous brother she never had. And if their convictions that Mr. Darcy is in love with her are correct, he could be the lover she’s always wanted. There’s only one problem—he tried to ruin her favorite sister’s life, and she made an absolute fool of herself in front of him. Can lasting happiness come out of such a beginning? And can a man die from chasing a woman too quick to be caught? Darcy is about to find out.

Fitzwilliam Darcy is on the verge of proposing to Miss Elizabeth Bennet when he happens upon her diary in a field of bluebells. Though he knows he should not, he gives in to the temptation to read it and discovers a perspective on himself he had never before considered. Not only does Elizabeth not reciprocate his love, she considers him arrogant, insulting and disdainful. Her reasons, to his shame, are not entirely unfounded. Properly humbled, Darcy must decide what to do—walk away from his beloved forever or make the effort to please a woman worthy of being pleased.

Elizabeth Bennet travels to Kent to escape her mother’s histrionics, hopeful to find respite in visiting her oldest friend, Charlotte Collins. Instead of the reprieve she desired, she finds herself trapped and miserable. Elizabeth’s only relief is derived from her morning rambles, where she finds great solace in the strangest of places—walking with Mr. Darcy. His steadiness, kindness, and dependability greatly oppose her previous perceptions of the man, and yet she cannot help but continue to compare his character in Kent with the man she had supposed him to be in Hertfordshire.

Darcy’s financial mistakes lead him down the wrong
The narrator did an awesome job with making the story come to life. Kudos!
This is definitely not canon. Given the changes in the story to the background I can see where the author wanted to make the story interesting.
Darcy meets and falls in love with Elizabeth Bennet spending most of the summer with her and her family.
Darcy is lead to believe he will be able to increase his holdings takes a loan and learns he has been swindled and risks his freedom since he will not be able to pay the loan. (This is where I think the financial aspect comes into question). How a man with his income cannot repay the loan does not make sense to me.
The idea of losing his status and risking debtors prison, has Darcy considering marriage to Miss Bingley (not the one we all know, this one has been raised as a gentleman’s daughter with all the accomplishments and a huge dowry.) I think if her name was changed it might have helped me. From there the story is how Darcy must get over his fears of being shunned and ruined. It’s the proud Darcy, not the one lost to his heart and feeling love for Elizabeth.
