After he had a panic attack on live television, he went on a strange and circuitous journey that ultimately led him to embrace a practice he'd long considered ridiculous. Harris discovered that meditation made him more focused and less yanked around by his emotions. According to his wife, it also made him significantly less annoying.

In Stop Missing Your Life, mindfulness teacher Cory Muscara takes us on a journey into the heart of what is required for real change, growth, and happiness. He exposes how the phrase "be present" has become little more than a platitude, imbued with the misguided message to be present just for the sake of being present, and reveals how to achieve true Presence: a quality of being that is unmistakably attractive about a person, and one that only comes when we've peeled back the layers of guarding that prevent us from being our full, honest, and integrated selves in the world.

It increased my anxiety
I wanted to get some relief from constant anxiety and depression. However, throughout the book he constantly narrates anxiety attacks, goes through the feelings and describes it as if it were happening. Whereas I might be in a calmer state when I opened the book, after listening to it, it constantly triggered me. Additionally, with advice like "Tell your anxiety is that all you got? Make my heart beat fast, my chest feel heavier." Does not help someone trying to stop constant attacks from happening. This book gave me more of them with each chapter.

Hope this helps someone
Let me start by saying this gonna be long but hopefully not boring and will be helpful to someone, I “suffer” from generalized anxiety and started getting panic attacks from it slowly with in the years, I think it was all due to the symptoms that came from it, this book made me realize that no matter what symptoms it is that it must be from anxiety once u get cleared from ur doctor, I never thought of it that way. At first I was scared to even get the book shows u how bad my anxiety was but I said u know what it’s like 13 bucks on audible and what if 13 bucks cure me why not, so I tried it this the first book I ever got through in my life even tho it was read to me, I listen to it while I was at work, i like it because it makes perfect sense and u can’t really question it like many anxiety users do, I’m convinced that he’s 100 percent right and that’s rare for me I never believe that, but he’s right and seems like he’s done his home work, Ima listen to it again and keep practicing this, I push myself to do stuff this weekend and I actually did it, thanks to this book, I’m gonna keep trying since I tried everything and nothing work never in a million years would I think accepting it would be a solution I always try to avoid the feelings and if I think about it the symptoms are from anxiety and u get more anxiety from symptoms so it’s a never ending loop, so I say F it if I’m feelings symptoms that at least eliminates the anxiety of symptoms and I start working on ending this loop! What ever I feel fuck it I can’t stop it I been trying for years! So just accept it and end the anxiety from fearing it. Every time I read reviews I think it’s a actor or someone from the company faking it, but I assure u this real af and I’m a regular ass dude just like all of u. Let’s hope this works and like I said it’s only 13 bucks f it and try it!

Audio Book is not the right medium for this
What disappointed you about Dare?
Although it has a lot of valuable information, its the kind of book you need to get in physical form. The author talks about being able to skip from one chapter to another as necessary instead of reading the full book in the order it was written. In an audiobook, you don't have that kind of control. You also cannot easily visualize steps and refer back to them easily. At times, I had to rewind SEVERAL times because I would find that I missed important information because the author's tone is not particularly engaging so I would find my mind wandering and I'd have to rewind all over again...and again...and again.
What could Barry McDonagh have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
It felt that the points were not just stressed but they really dragged on and on and on. I think the same tips and knowledge could have been communicated in a much more concise fashion. Less words to communicate the same message would've been better.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Boredom
Any additional comments?
I'll definitely check this book out in paperback. I do NOT recommend this book in audio format.

Really helped me
I never leave reviews; never. I mean who cares what I think. But I’m providing this review because this book may help others as much as it helped me.
This book gave me a ton of hope. And I really related personally to Barry’s own story. This book helped me realize the racing thoughts and the feeling that I’m “losing my mind” and all the other things that come with anxiety is experienced by millions. Your anxiety is not as unique as you think.
Even though I have struggled with anxiety most of my adult life I really didn’t know much about it. This book was able to give me the knowledge to talk intelligent and efficiently about my anxiety to my therapist. I’m new to therapy and seeking treatment for my anxiety. But for me this book was as helpful as my therapy sessions; if not more helpful.
People had commented that the book is too long. I see where they are coming from but I thought the length helped reinforce the concepts that Barry lays out.
Listening to this book have me hope. You’re not alone and anxiety is treatable. Good luck!

Repackaging Old treatment
Dear. BM: you asked for honest review, I am a psychiatrist over 20 years in practice, there is nothing in this audio book that I did not tell my patients 25 years ago about anxiety. However, I realize you somehow admit it is built on work of others but call it "The New Way", it is a "New Marketing of an old Treatment" . I don't mind your brilliant repackaging of it, May the Power and Success be with you. DARE elements, these are not the only elements /tools used in Cognitive-Behavioral treatment of anxiety. Next concerning issue is that Anxiety Disorder, is the most comorbid disorder with more serious mental illness like Schizophrenia, Bipolar, PTSD, etc, but agree that there exist anxiety symptoms free of such serious illnesses, however the diagnosis relies on assessment by a psychiatrist, not once you mention in your book to seek psychiatric counseling to rule out those serious conditions; Also many serious medical conditions like Asthma, COPD, Cardiac symptoms, Diabetes, Hypertension, have serious anxiety symptoms, so I think your reassurance that "Chances are that this is just simple anxiety", is simplistic, you do mention " to seek primary care if if you worry …" the point is medical and psychiatric assessments are essential at the start before calling a symptom "just anxiety". One more thing, you talk about "Schizophrenia does not happened after age 25" so wrong, it can have late onset in 40's or even 60's. So other than these issues, great book, there is nothing more in this book that I disagree, I definitely remind myself of DARE when I deal with anxiety and I will definitely recommend your book to my patients. Congratulations.

Highly recommended for anyone who suffers from anxiety at any level. Some parts may seem a bit corny, but the take home messages make the book well worth it. Mental health is something to be taken very seriously and whether you just find yourself anxious before a big speech or you're suffering from something much deeper, this book could teach you a lot. It doesn't replace mental health professionals, so if you need the help, I encourage you to get it, but books like this may help you understand the way you're feeling a little better.

unnecessarily long
the narration was great. very clear and calming. the book, however, was the exact same points over and over. I had to check in the middle of the book to see of it had accidentally restarted because I had already heard it all before moments earlier. I also do not personally believe this method is worth anything but it may work for some.

Finally, someone who f#cking gets it.
I've suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for too many years now (mainly, a fear that something is wrong with my health) and I've been to different doctors and councillors and even my Dad is a psychotherapist and nobody could tell me what I needed to hear to help me.
1 day of listening to this in my van and I am like, fuck, this lad is actually talking to me and knows exactly what I'm going through every day.
2 days of listening and for the first time in years I've felt normal. Without fear or stupid thoughts about every single sensation that my body has.
I'll probably have to listen to it a few more times just to refresh my brain but I can honestly say that this audio book is like years of therapy.
Thanks Barry ya absolute ledge bag 👍

I just found the content really dull. Maybe it was because i have heard it before many times or maybe it was the way it was written and narrated, but not really very interesting at all and certainly didn't help with my panic attacks.

Not worth the hype. This book is all about hype and marketing, which completely failed to deliver. All cliched dull advice which is available for free with a quick google search.
Not worth it at all. Disappointed.

Very disappointed!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Needs to be more realistic.
Would you ever listen to anything by Barry McDonagh again?
I would consider it.
Would you be willing to try another one of Barry McDonagh’s performances?
The performance wasn't great but i always give people a second try.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
This book (and the marketing that surrounds it!) promised a lot and for me, totally and utterly failed to deliver. None of the advice and tips felt realistic or anything i could use in my life. At times i felt talked down to and other times the advice felt silly. Very disappointed.

Not for me.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Maybe some people will like this and given by the positive reviews some must, but for me this was not helpful at all. I think if you have never read anything at all on anxiety or panic attacks and this is a new thing then this might be the book for you. Otherwise I fear you may be hearing the same things again and again.

WONDERFUL and very different
I have ready a number of booked on this subject with an emphasis on neuroscience and some also around mindfulness. This book has completely changed the way I look and feel about anxiety.
By half way through the book I was off doing things I hadn't even considered to be achievable before I started it.
Very good results and very quickly if you follow the simple instructions.

At last, a solution to conquering anxiety!
I've read a few books on dealing with anxiety but I have found that this one helped the most. It actually gives a method of responding to it that actually works!

Transformed my life: I no longer fear anxiety
This is an amazing book: providing a deep service to anyone who has experienced too much anxiety.
The core 'DARE' concept is very solid and different to anything else I'd heard, and Barry explains it beautifully.
He really makes clear that anxiety and worry is normal, but what isn't healthy is our responses to it. I'm now stopping fearing anxiety and this means I'm both not falling into my old bad habits and I'm being more able to do what I want.
Thanks Barry!

Great resource for anxiety, but..
This book is well narrated and is an interesting and helpful book to listen to if you suffer from anxiety. Barry McDonagh suffered from anxiety and panic attacks himself, and this book (and the program that goes with it) has a useful set of techniques for dealing with anxiety, and in particular, panic attacks.
If I have one criticism, it is that it's main focus is on anxiety around anxiety. It mainly looks at the anxiety we may be feeling around anxiety. I understand that panic attacks, and panic disorders are often fuelled by the fear or anxiety we have about our anxiety, or that we fear a panic attack, and that this fear is often what can bring a panic attack on, so in that sense it is a useful book. However, for me, most of my anxiety is around real or imagined concerns, say health worries, or fears around death, so I often found I needed to "translate this material on the fly", so that I could use the techniques to deal with just anxiety, rather than "anxiety about my anxiety".
Still, it is a very good book, and arguably the best in the field for anxiety, but in my opinion it is a bit limited in scope, with an over-emphasis on anxiety about anxiety.

You must read this book
There are lots of self help books out there for anxiety so what makes this different and the answer is simply that this one works.
Don't let the authors accent turn you off because you will get used to it.
The tips it offers really work as long as you are willing to put in the effort.

Trivialises anxiety
Nothing he says is new or helpful for concurring anxiety. It’s like someone telling you that it’s a primordial response, so just snap out of it. It also drags on without saying anything particularly insightful. Just another failed self help book. His voice is soothing, so nice to fall asleep to.

Have anxiety? This is an absolute must read/listen
I was in tears during the intro. Finally someone was saying all the things I feared to think let alone admit.
I felt reassured that I wasn’t going insane and the I was normal and most importantly that I didn’t have to live with my anxiety for the rest of my life if I didn’t want to.
The rest of the book and exercises and strategies did not disappoint. I will be listening to this book a few times and implementing what I have learned. 5 stars from me.
I can’t believe that some counsellors and psychologists haven’t heard of this book and author 😮 yet try to help people with anxiety daily.

Feeling in control
I have been listening to Barry’s audio for a couple of weeks now, he comes in the car with me every day and I listen to him whenever I can around my home, I find that i feel he is speaking straight to me and I have been putting into practice daily everything that he says, I have just gone 4 days straight with no dizziness and very little anxiety, but as he said it can come back and it did today, but I will continue accepting and welcoming this anxiety and hope that I will be free to live a better life, Barry you have kept me sane, thank you so very much

Good advice but not for me
I get fight panic attacks so while some of the advice is quite helpful increasing the intensity of the panic attack to calm me down is not appropriate advice.
