Publisher's Summary

New York Times Best-selling Author Carly Phillips turns up the heat in her newest sexy contemporary romance series, and introduces you to the Dare family…siblings shaped by a father's secrets and betrayal.

Since finding out his father had another family on the side, Ian Dare swore to be the upstanding, responsible man his cheating parent had never been. When it comes to his relatives, he gives his all but in relationships he offers the bare minimum. But one glimpse of sensual Riley Taylor arouses his dominant and protective instincts and Ian is entranced. He will do anything to possess her…and does. But any future with Riley must include him extending an olive branch to the half-brother who is a constant reminder of the pain he'd rather forget.

Independent and always in control, Riley Taylor makes no apologies for choosing men carefully. Relationships have never been a priority and she believes herself hardened to domineering men - until she meets charismatic Ian Dare. He manages to turn a simple kiss into an all-out assault on her senses and when he takes control in the bedroom, she's stunned to discover she likes it. As their affair heats up, they soon realize they complete each other in ways neither imagined. But Riley's past is closer than she cares to remember, and her struggles with Ian's dominance might just cost her everything.

A very average listen

Any additional comments?

Ian is a dirty man. He likes control and he likes to play with Riley. He is also possessive of her time and attention and demands everything from her. He wants her to rely on him instead of her best friend Alex, Ian's half brother, and this is the biggest source of their trouble. Riley comes from an abusive background and Alex has proven himself to be the one she can trust. If Riley can’t find a way to trust Ian the way she does with Alex then their relationship isn't going to go far.

As a couple, they were well matched in stubbornness and complexity but this was a very average listen for me. It just didn't have that special Vroooom, that heart pulling feeling that a lot of these heavy sexy romance books have. I just couldn't connect with this book and won't bother with the rest of this series.

Average - Is It Me? Has This Genre Run Its Course?

What did you like best about Dare to Love? What did you like least?

*

It may just be me, but this is another run-of-the-mill rich man meets poor woman – everybody has issues. No one trusts each other, but what does it matter? Everything is kinky in the bedroom.

The only difference with this book is that the father of the adult children had two families at the same time and chose one over the other. The un-chosen families son is bitter about that.

I cannot add to the description so I encourage you to read the publishers summary because
it does more than I can to describe the book.

Any additional comments?

The one bright spot is the narrator, who does a fantastic job with the characters in spite of being another, rather boring books in this genre.

Notes: Mature themes and strong language

Credit worthy/$: Neither, in my opinion, I am burned out in this category but if that's what you will enjoy - you may like it

Mediocre story. Great Narration.

Well the story was mediocre at best. The main characters are okay, nothing especially great stands out for either of them. Well except the sex. There was lots and lots of sex between these two. It was hot and steamy for sure. I wouldn't call it erotica or BDSM but it was pretty explicit. The chemistry was good between them it felt real and not forced.

The story line and plot were okay, but seemed to be about the sex than anything else. They both had a little bit of a past they were getting through so I suppose there is that.

This was not a story I would say "OMG you have to read this!" Like I said the story was mediocre at best.

There was a lot of dialogue throughout the entire book which was great. I love lots of dialogue.

As for the narration, it was great. Love Sophie Eastlake. She does such a great job with the men's voices, they sound like men, actually sexy men. Everyone gets their own distinct voice. She has a very nice reading voice you can distinguish from the characters, and she reads with emotion. I really enjoy listening to her. She did make this book better that is for sure. I would not have finished this book if I had only been reading it. So the narration did help quite a bit.

I did get this free from Amazon and the whispersync was 1.99. So that was a good deal.

Past experience colours future actions

Would you try another book from Carly Phillips and/or Sophie Eastlake?

With Sophie as narrator, I would definitely try another another book with her as narrator. Her impressive vocal talent is really remarkable and it totally made the book that much more enjoyable. You go girl!

Would you be willing to try another book from Carly Phillips? Why or why not?

I may, but the overly hot sex scenes are really not my forte. But I will see how the next one goes.

Which character – as performed by Sophie Eastlake – was your favorite?

Ian is my favourite character in the book but I loved the depiction of Riley's persona by Sophie. Her dramatics were so evocative and really well done. All in all, it's difficult to choose between them as they are both favorites.

Any additional comments?

This is a really compelling story about two people who are bound by past experiences, and find the comfort and strength in each other, to move forward. To be free of everything that has held them back.

I'm not in to very graphic sexual content, so it was off putting, to some extent. However it was a great listening experience as Sophie Eastlake is a great narrator. Thanks for your vibrant story telling as the story line was very insightful of the nuances of past experiences that colour and form present behaviour patterns.

Looking forward to your other books.

Sweet and sexy with a little bit of drama

This was actually much better than I had expected. I needed some light entertainment after reading a lot of heavy stuff and this audiobook was perfect for that. It's a sweet, funny, sexy romance with a bit of angst and drama thrown in.
The narrator did a great job, especially with the male voices.
It reminded me of the "With me in Seattle" series by Kristen Proby. If you enjoyed those, you'll like this series.
I've gone straight on to listening to the second book in the series.

This is the hottest Carly Phillips book so far!

DARE TO LOVE isn't your standard fluffy shallow contemporary romance! This storyline was filled with complex charters, unique plot twists, and great dialogue. I really appreciated the familial connections woven within this story. I enjoyed that it had a nice balance of heated sexual encounters and actual storyline. For me, this was the hottest Carly Phillips book by far! I felt the author did an amazing job squeezing so much storyline in such a short book.

At it's core this is a story about strong characters overcoming great obstacles. I absolutely adored Riley. She's smart, driven, and full of heart. With her tragic childhood full of abuse, I was so happy to see her find happiness as an adult. And Ian is a swoon-worthy, Alpha male, with sensitivity just lying under the surface. After learning about his history, I completely understood where he was coming from. He was unwilling to lead the type of life that his father had. Learning that made me love him even more. I felt that their romance came on some what quickly, but their connection was steamy from their first meeting. I think that these two complemented each other very well, even though these two have such different backgrounds. These two are quite a pair. Ian would push Riley, and she would push right back at him.

I also enjoyed getting to know Ian's family. I can't wait until Alex gets his time in the spotlight. There is nothing like a cocky, sexy athlete. I love that this series centers around the Dare extended family. These siblings might have come from broken homes, but I really enjoyed their journey in the book. And how could you not love Ian's mother! She is such a strong role model for her children.

As always, Sophie Eastlake really delivered in this book. She has the perfect sultry voice to pull off this seductive audiobook. There are a few female narrators out there that can do male voices, as well as Sophie. I think she did a fantastic job with Ian. She captured his sexy, authoritative tone exquisitely. Her inflection and dictation are outstanding. And she really brought the story to life for me.

This book was a smart and sexy read. I enjoyed the cleaver dialogue and extremely interesting characters. It was a great audiobook to lose myself in for a couple hours. DARE TO LOVE sets up the rest of the series very well. I can't wait to read more about Ian's siblings and step-siblings! This was a very quick read for me, and I can't wait to get my hands on DARE TO DESIRE. This is a must read for those looking for a fast-paced, steamy romance!

Hot romance

What made the experience of listening to Dare to Love the most enjoyable?

The relationship between the two main characters, who both had their own flaws was interesting. The outlying characters really added depth to the story, and sets the reader up to follow up this book with their stories as well.

What other book might you compare Dare to Love to and why?

Probably the book Heartbreaker because both characters had previous issues that kept them hesitating to accept their feelings for the other.

What about Sophie Eastlake’s performance did you like?

She had a smooth voice and relaxing performance, really enjoyable.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It was when Ian left her at the hospital.

Any additional comments?

Enjoyed the book, I think the series will be worth listening to in the future. I'm looking forward to Alex and Madison's story.

Wow

So enjoyed this story, two strong characters, both willing to give and trust. Because without each other they were broken. A great story with lots of family around.
Narration was awesome too.
