The Berwick Witches, Werewolves, Vampires and more
It took me a little bit to get through this book because there is a lot going on and from time to time I would get lost. The over arching story is easy to follow but some of the side plots with the different creatures would sometimes distract from the overall story. That being said, I really enjoyed the overall story. There is a lot of story here to enjoy and it was quite unique.
The overall plot was interesting; however, my favorite story line was with Matthew. There is a scene in the woods where he and his girlfriend, Kayla, encounter a bear. It was a really exciting point in that story line. The other story line I really enjoyed was with the succubus, completely unnecessary to the storyline but great nonetheless There are a lot of little great pieces in this story that make the overall story a lot of fun to listen to. The story is full of action and the ending was the best part and while it is a slow crescendo it peaks quite high. I quite enjoyed how the setting seemed to be rural America in present time.
There are quite a few characters and it is easy to get lost with who is who and what their role and ability is. The story is also told over a period of time so while you would expect to get a lot of development of the characters I think they remain fairly static as I feel this was more plot driven and the characters were there to tell the story. You definitely get close to a few and become sympathetic with their fight.
The narrator did a good job. I would have liked to hear a bit more difference for the character’s voices, but he did have a good tone and his inflection was timed perfectly for the situations. I have heard him tell stories before and he is definitely a narrator you want to listen to.

Surprisingly awesome.
I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review. And, I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. However, it leaves an ending open for a second book. I want more. This book took a minute to get going. But, once in, it never failed to keep pulling you in. Aron Sen's narrataion forgive my spelling of your last name was absolutely perfect for this book. It had me, and just when I thought it was going to ease up, another turn would happen and away you would go again. It was an amazing read and HL Randal is going to definitely go far and make a name, like Charlaine Haris, or even Anne Rice with the Burwick witches. This is a cross between hints of the Sookie Stackhouse series, and The Witches of Mayfair, with all the demons, magic, andcrazy chaotic fun of the Mayfair witches, you just never know what's around the next corner. Romance, screams, or absolute oh crap moments. Good one, J enjoyed this one. Keep it up!!

One of the best horror books I've read in a while
I was so excited about this book! As someone who has been a fan of horror since I was a kid, I am used to disappointment. So when I was just a few pages into this I realized that this actually might be a good one, I was thrilled. And it was sooo very good! I have never read anything from this author before, but I want more! And the narrator also did a good job. He has a great voice for horror. I definitely recommend this one!

Enjoyable In Spite Of Itself
As I listened to "Dark Covenant: The Berwick Witches" I came away with the mental impression of a movie that was later adapted into a book instead of the other way around. The story revolves around the city of New Berwick, Illinois. A city with a population that's about three quarters supernaturals and one quarter mundane humans. The major players are the witches and the werewolves who work together to defend and protect the city from things like curses, an evil, ancient witch and even a terrible secret that could come back to harm those involved.
There are a lot of characters and story threads to keep up with in "Dark Covenant." So many that the reader/listner may get confused sometimes. Some of the threads are, in my opinion, unnecessary to the main story, but they don't really ruin anything by remaining in. I do, however, have a few gripes with the book. One is when author, H. L. Randall, decides to rely on an old movie cliché to advance the story. Characters Matthew and Kayla encounter a bear in the woods. Remember all those old movies where the woman is running from a slow moving monster then trips and falls? This, of course, allows the slow moving monster to catch up. Well this same tactic was employed in "Dark Covenant" in order to reveal something major in the story. There is another example where H. L. Randall writes a character in such a stupid way that the character's actions cause someone to be killed by vampires. I really felt the whole thing was a cheap manipulation.
All in all, while I could definitely site a few more things that bothered me about the writing in “Dark Covenant,” there really is no need. At the risk of sounding contrary to my review, I actually did find "Dark Covenant" to be a good story overall with great narration to boot. The story definitely isn't perfect in my eyes, but I actually did enjoy it. Finally, this free, review copy audiobook was given to me at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Lots going on in this book
This was a good listen, not great, but definitely good. The author has just a few too many story lines in this book, especially with a narrator that does not inflect differently for many of the characters. There are some interesting characters and the author is really good with the high action scenes. Overall this was worth the listen.

Pretty Good but a little hard to follow
I think the author wrote a relatively interesting spin on the traditional shifter story with other paranormal beings (witches, etc.) and how they are connected. It was little confusing in some spots, but nothing a second listen wouldn't clear up. The plot advanced at a reasonable pace but the characters could have been a little more relatable.
The narrator did a decent job, however I think there could have been a good deal more differentiation between the character voices, in general. I found myself trying to figure who was speaking or being spoken about for a good bit of this listen. I actually think if the narrator had been able to do a better job of voice differentiation in this performance, it would have made the characters more relatable and would have made this an easier listen.
Overall, pretty interesting listen.

I really thought this was an engaging and excellent listen. I liked the spooky town (and its inhabitants) the author describes in this book. There is a lot of great paranormal content that really draws you in. The narration is well done and really brings the story to life. There is so much for fans of both paranormal and horror to enjoy. I would definitely recommend this book for fans of either genre.
