Publisher's Summary

When dark forces rise, are faith and firepower enough?

On the eve of his medical retirement, Navy SEAL Jedidiah Johnson receives a frantic call from his estranged childhood best friend, David Yarnell. David’s daughter has been kidnapped off the streets of Nashville in broad daylight. The police have no suspects and no leads. The only clue: the body of a dead priest left behind at the scene. With the clock ticking, David is growing desperate, as is his wife, Rachel...Jed’s first love.

Despite his painful history with David and Rachel, Jed agrees to help. But he’s spent his career as a door-kicking Navy SEAL, not an investigator. His presence immediately draws unwanted attention, creates friction with the local police, and triggers a mysterious attempt on his life. Just when he thinks things can’t get worse, it starts to happen again - the voices in his head, the nightmares, the visions. Dark memories and strange abilities, things he believed he’d left behind when he fled Nashville for the Navy at 18, begin to resurface.

Jed realizes that to save the missing girl, he must take a leap of faith and embrace the gifts he’s denied for all these years. To foil this dark intercept, he’ll need more than just his years as a SEAL operator, because he has no choice now but to take up arms and join the battle in the unseen spiritual warfare raging all around him. And there is far more at stake than just a missing girl: The world is not the place he thought it was - and he is not alone.

Follow the military heroes of the Shepherds series as they bring the power of light into the dark mystery of Sara Beth’s abduction.

An Excellent surprise

I had not read this author before nor listened to this narrator. The description seemed interesting so I took a chance.

I have to say I was very happy with both the story and the narrator. The story is very well done. Reminds me a bit like Ash Angels but with more philosophy and character development. It's not constant action. But when there is action, it is very intense. The main characters are well written and are excellent. They are really the only characters with any depth for now but I can see other characters growing as the series progresses.

I would have enjoyed the book if it were twice as long but that's me being greedy. Again, thank narrator was excellent. I found his voices to be really good with a great amount off variation in characters. From the MC to children to the villians to the holy spirit to demons. Excellent characterizations. For those that may wonder the book is free of language and adult situations. It does have violence but it's not overtly gory. Typical of late night television. I reccomend spending the credit. It's worth it and I look forward to the next book. I hope this becomes a series.

Not for me.

The combination of Seal Team action and spiritual warfare is not a good one. I purchased this book because I am a huge fan of the the Tier One series. After finishing the latest installment, Sons of Valor, I looked for other iterations of this talented duo. (The first Nick Foley book was okay, but not worth a follow-up in my opinion.)
When Dark Intercept was released, I was hopeful. I knew there was going to be a Christian element to the story and I wasn't opposed to the concept in theory. But the story is way too far outside the lines of special forces prowess and down the rabbit hole of end times rhetoric. This is the kind of book that readers of Max Lucado or the Left Behind series will want to read. I for one wish that the authors would stay in their own lane and not attempt to marry the popular Seal Team stories with supernatural bad guys.

Entertaining and thought provoking

Finally a book that makes you think about faith that isn’t all sunshine and roses. I just finished the Jack Carr books and this was just as entertaining but also made me think about my relationship with God and how I might be able to better serve the Kingdom and the war against evil

Groundbreaking new work by star thriller writers!

From the very first chapter, you know you're not reading a typical thriller! If you know the authors from their bestselling military thriller series like Tier One and Sons of Valor, you're in for a roller-coaster ride filled with surprises that will blow your mind! This book features all of the heart-stopping action and compelling plots the writers are known for, but now takes on twists they've never done before. The narration, too, is absolutely outstanding and at times, it actually sounded like a multi-person cast - MacLeod Andrews packs emotion into his reading but is never melodramatic.

This story explores faith and the impact of military service and tragic loss on one's faith and the battle between good and evil - evil in all guises and walks. This is a step away from their other series, and while some readers want authors to stay in very narrow lanes and never ask deep questions or engage the reader on other levels, I'm seeing an overwhelming reaction that is affirming that this was the time for a series like Shepherds. Great work! Can't wait for the second book!

A whole other level!!

High action thriller on the level of Sons of Valor mixed with a whole other level of spiritual warfare. It's Andrews and Wilson at their best mixed with a touch reminiscent of Frank Peretti. Lots of Scripture is woven into the storyline. The narrator did one of the most amazing jobs I've ever heard. Hard to believe it was just one person. Can't wait for the next installment!

Nonsense

Absurd and a waste of a purchase. The authors other stories are ok, but this religious monster story will keep me from these authors forever and won’t waste my money again.

This book was sooo cool...

I had high expectations from the authors of "The Tier One" series (which is one my top 5 favorite series ever). I would have never seen this story coming but I work on these same streets in Nashville and Murfreesboro everyday. I could see every backdrop and landscape in this story without having to imagine it. I cannot wait for this series to take the next leg of it's flight. great world layout and a flat out awesome story.

Refreshingly different!

Truly enjoy this book start to finish! The authors really know how to capture the reader attention! I am a big fan of their other works, but found this to be even better. The narrator was very talented, 1st I heard of his. I can’t wait for the next installment.

Just too weird

I bailed about halfway through. if I wanted a fantasy-sci-fi (or whatever this is), I would have found one. I thought I was getting the usual kind of story from these authors, but I got something else. Life (and plot development) is so easy when you have supernatural powers, isn't it? Even if you're a believer, this story is a stretch too far for almost all believers.
