Publisher's Summary

Once I was a fae princess with sea-magic at my fingertips. Now? I’m a hunted supernatural in a squalid shop, stripped of my power. My only comforts are stale cookies, Elvis records, and my hula-hoop. Then a lethally sexy fae king arrives and rips even those away.

After the brutal king throws me in prison, I strike a bargain with him: my freedom in exchange for helping him find a magic blade. What Lyr doesn’t know is that the blade might restore my stolen magic.

But as we journey, the gorgeous jerk starts to make me feel things I’ve never felt. When Lyr touches me, desire ignites. I see raging passion in his eyes too. If I give in, I risk losing my chance at reclaiming my power…and, even worse, I could be forfeiting my life.

Interesting but kind of weird

One of the first times I’m not sure if I liked a book or not.
The best and brightest parts were was the humorous and sweet relationship between the heroine, Aenor, (a banished Fae princess of a lost kingdom who now lives pathetically below ground in London to hide from assassins) and her teenage human ward, Gina. A lot of detail is put into this very strange World set-up, but then abandoned when the main two characters traipse around Israel of all places.
There are just some seriously dark moments, with characters throwing in humor which screeched on my nerves. The storyline stayed well hidden, you had to go along to figure it out, there are like zero hints where the heck it’s all going. It was just....well, weird.
Its saving grace is the touch of a real and appealing connection between Lyr and Aenor. Lyr is a Demi-God sea fae king of some sort, which is never exactly explained as to why this is or what this means really. He is the most interesting character in many ways, sacrificing himself at times for the right reasons even if he makes mistakes, each time he does he brings into himself a punishment and a mysterious curse.
But... there’s just something ... off. I’m not sure I’ll continue on. Could just be me.
The first book cuts off abruptly by the way. Perhaps it’s intentional, but the abruptness was a bit jarring. I was left not knowing who to root for- it’s like they all are poised to turn better or worse, the last line in fact was a bit creepy. But this ambiguity, and the point that good people can be worn down or confused or warped seems to be a theme of the book. Good people make mistakes, etc., while the apparently bad people have their reasons too. Whatever.
No idea why the story moved quickly from London to Israel. It’s like the authors visited the two cities in Israel and there’s lots of their travel notes thrown in with almost too much detail.
Actually I think I’d just prefer to read the cliff notes of what eventually happens I think.

No end & next book isn’t a sequel

The end is a bit random and a lot is left undone, but the next book isn’t about these characters. WTF???

Love it!

I love it. I am a huge fan of Justine Eyre as the narrator. I sometimes look for books she narrates. She does the voices so well and takes me for a ride on all the emotions of each character .

Absolutely must have can't put down book!!!!!

Action packed from beginning to end!!! I absolutely could not put this book down.
I've read it 3 times and it is still riveting...

Absolutely love the characters in this book and the mythology is fascinating.

The Heroine Aenor is brave and endearing. I love that she owns her mistakes and is willing to openly discuss what she remembers about her painful past.

I really like that Aenor doesn't fully understand what happened to her but refuses to be ruled by the fear of the unknown and is fiercely determined to protect others. Aenor protects her vulnerability by wrapping herself in the persona of a deadly killer even as she only seeks to avenge the weak by punishing their attackers.

Lyr well what can I say??? HOT, SEXY AND DANGEROUS... Absolutely the perfect combination of delicious.

C.N. Crawford does not disappoint with this amazing first installment of the Sea Fae series... I can't wait for book number 2 .

This is a must have read for fans. Don't shy away from it because it is more romantic than other series. The plot is amazing and the romance is sexy but not overly done. The relationship builds as the characters interact over time and feels natural to the story dynamics. I can't say enough about how well it was written because I am not one for overly romantic details (I enjoy the less is more approach). This books romance is tastefully done without diminishing the passion between the main characters.

I can't say enough about the intriguing interwoven details of past history and current events. I'm dying to find out what happens next. Grab your copy and get settled in for an epic read... Make sure you have snacks cuz your not gonna want to stop till you finish it completely.

Okay! I'm interested . . .

I'm interested enough to find out what happens next. But if book 2 disappoints I'm not sure I'll continue on to book 3. I mean it was good don't get me wrong, just not as exciting as I expected.

great narrarator, definetely more of a series read

So this is the first book in a series and while there is no real cliffhanger its just kind of a meh read as there's just alot of unanswered questions. The steadier scenes weren't anything wildly great either but it definetely felt like more of a side note than a storyline plot point. all in all 8 could take it or leave it and probably won't continue the series but id still say give it a shot on a rainy day when you have an extra credit!

Better to read it rather than listen!

I’ve managed to listen to 30 mins of this audiobook then gave up. I’ve never heard such a poor narration. Story itself is solid and quite enjoyable despite the noticeable lack of background. As if the author assumes that you know all about fae, it’s history and main characters relationship. I usually love Crawfords books but this kinda let me down. Maybe narrator just put me off so much that I was discouraged from the start. My advice is- sample the book first- not many will manage to listen to the most annoying voice in the world!

Definitely worth a read! A mature ACOTAR

I was torn whether to give this 4 or 5 stars, but in the end since I only give 5 stars to books I absolutely ADORE and would die for, I had to only give this 4. Though I have a feeling that I’ll be giving the next books in this series more.

The narrator’s English accent is bad, but I tried (successfully, I think) to ignore it and I managed to enjoy the book anyway. She could have been far worse.

Shockingly bad narrator

Overall the story was enjoyable, however it was lacking in character and world building. The relationship between the two main characters went from Anor hating her captor, to them suddenly wanting each other, with no real reason for this to happen, due to them barely building a relationship with each other. This made the romance aspect of this book was very disappointing, as I do like to see a relationship develop with tension and suspense, so that you get invested in the characters and their developing attraction. This book really didn’t have any of that.

However the worse thing about this book was the narrator!!! As with the other review the narrators male voices were all the same and all a nasal stuffy, monotone old man voice. The voice she used for the main male character did not reflect how he was described and did not conjure up a sexy fae Demi God, it made u think of some stuffy Prince Charles like person. I do not believe that if the author heard this characterisation of her main male lead, she would be saying yes that’s exactly how I imagined him!! The narrator absolutely ruined any of the enjoyment I may have got from this book and I would not listen to anything else that she narrated as I find that she is a story killer!

Like I said this is not the best story in the world and there are a few flaws in it, but I suggest reading it rather than listening to it and then you might find it more enjoyable than I did.

Good book, grating narration

The book is pacy, sexy and fun. Unfortunately the narration is almost unbearable. The narrator is good at character voices but has chosen a nasal, almost monotone pitch for the protagonist, which is so grating I had to turn down the volume. Unfortunately the narrator only seems to have one British male voice in her repertoire so it’s hard to distinguish male characters, and that voice would be best used for depicting a stuffy, dull uncle in a Victorian drama - NOT hot for our otherwise very appealing male lead. If you can bear the narration the book is well written and enjoyable. Solid plot - interesting characters.

Please stop calling lusty people ripe 😒

I kind of liked this book kinda hated it. Some of it was pretty interesting, other parts were eyeroll worthy. I liked the way the main character abhorred sexist slurs and distain of women in positions of powerlessness. Some of the writing seemed a bit simplistic or undercut itself.

The same drawling 'English acccent' for most of the characters was fairly irritating and made it hard to distinguish personality from even the different villains to the 'anti-hero' ankhu jerk they all sounded the same. I enjoyed some of it but didn't think it was particularly good. Not really interested in following up the sequal. Thanks for the read I guess.

Horrible fake brit narration

I loved this story but was put off by the narrators attempt of a male British accent .. it made me cringe every time .. the tone change of to his voice was vile too.. very unsexy . I couldn’t finish listening to it on audible .. changed to actually reading the book .

***Brilliant, thrilling***

Seeing Justine Eyre being the narrator alone made me to download this Audiobook, she is an exceptional narrator.
The story is intense, thrilling and have many unforgettable characters that you can love and relate too.
