Publisher's Summary
Samson O'Brien has been dismissed from the police force and returns to his hometown of Bruncliffe in the Yorkshire Dales to set up the Dales Detective Agency while he fights to clear his name. However, the people of Bruncliffe aren't that welcoming to a man they see as trouble.
Delilah Metcalfe, meanwhile, is struggling to keep her business, the Dales Dating Agency, afloat - as well as trying to control her wayward Weimaraner dog, Tolpuddle. Then when Samson gets his first case, investigating the supposed suicide of a local man, things take an unexpected turn, and soon he discovers a trail of deaths that lead back to the door of Delilah's agency.
With suspicion hanging over someone they both care for, the two feuding neighbours soon realize that they need to work together to solve the mystery of the dating deaths. But working together is easier said than done....

Brilliantly performed rather different story line
I was not sure about this book, I did not know the author, but had enjoyed listening to Elizabeth Bower before. The setting and plot were unusual but as the story got underway it quickly became a “cannot put it down” book.
This was mainly due to the exceptional performance and a story that built up tension at a good pace. The only slight downside was the almost bewildering range of character names early on, and unlike a written text it is not so convenient to look back a couple of pages to confirm who the character was.

good plot dales flavoured murder mystery
took a while to warm to the characters but it was a good story with a good ending and a seperate underlying mystery that i presume will be resolved in the next book. all that with a touch of romance makes this book well worth a read/listen.

Date With Death Needs Part Two Now!
What did you like most about Date with Death?
An interesting modern story without the bad language, descriptive sex scenes or blood and guts so often featured in modern detective books. The story unwinds at a good pace and holds the listener's interest. The author has also managed to plant a seed of romance for us to follow by subtly weaving it into the plot. So now we just have to have book two.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The story will draw you in and the hold you. Fortunately, the narrator holds up her end making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

A new series to look forward to
Two interesting main characters and a wonderful dog. A good mystery that kept me guessing to the end.
Lovely description of the countryside, evoking a realistic village community .
The background plot is something that is obviously going to run and run.
Highly recommended. Good narration.
