Publisher's Summary

The thrilling second novel of an all-new fantasy series from the legendary author behind the Shannara saga, about a human girl adapting to her place in a magical world she’s only recently discovered

It’s been two years since Auris escaped from the sinister Goblin prison and learned of her heritage as one of the Fae. She is now happily partnered with her Fae lover, Harrow, and deeply bonded with her new family. All seems to be going perfectly—until, surprisingly, the Goblin attacks begin again. Someone, it seems, has not forgotten that Auris exists and seems determined to retrieve her . . . but who? And why?

As Auris begins to dig deeper into the mystery, old friends and new enemies appear, and she starts to realize that her still-shrouded past must contain the answers she needs. But even Auris does not suspect how far down the rabbit hole she is about to go, until Harrow is taken and an impossible ransom demand is issued. With two new companions at her side, Auris must attempt to unlock the remaining secrets of her past. For if she cannot, she will never see Harrow alive again.

It was....good

Not the TB I've grown up with and love, but still a decent story. Could have been a short story IMHO and still been awesome, and the ending was just a little ... bad. But Terry, I love you and will always support you. You're my favorite author and I'm grateful for you

Another winner!

If you like Terry’s writing, you will love this! It takes you on a journey that you would never have gone if in physical form. I love the way Terry writes and he such a down to earth writer. I bought a full set of his books and his daughter in law was the cashier at the bookstore. We explained the set was for our son’s birthday present. She took the set home and Terry wrote a dedication in every book! Such a kind man!

Not sure of what to say

It was very hard to finish this but since I bought it, might as well listen to the end. I think this is the only book I did not like. Very boring and the story line was not that captivating.

Didn't Like It Very Much

I've been a big Terry Brooks fan since his first Shannara books. I picked up this book the day it came out. I didn't like this book much at all. Instead of the action telling the story, much of it was just the rather frantic inner dialogue of what's going on in Auris' head. Much of the dialog seemed repetitious to me. I couldn't get engaged in the story or care much about the characters. I found myself looking at how much was left to listen to and wishing it was over..

Even though it added nothing to the storyline, Mr. Brooks made sure we knew that one of the characters is a lesbian. If her partner had been a character in the story and it flowed from that, then I wouldn't have had a problem with it. It just seemed to be a gratuitous nod to "political correctness". I get enough political correctness in real life--I don't wish to pay money and spend my time to get it in my entertainment too.

I did finish the book, but next time I'll wait and read some reviews before I decide if I want to order another of his books.

Absolutely outstanding

As stories go sometimes story lines lose their glamor and flavor but since I still follow Mr Brooks in many of his books he does not disappoint . Nor does his reader thank you Mr Brooks for your delightful entrancing book and thank you Mr Parker for your voice who I must say I identify with as female well done you.

Good but not on the same level as shannara

This was a good book, at first the style and narration is surprising as it is completely different from the Shannara series, but it does develop and become more interesting.
