Publisher's Summary
There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I've gotten what I came for.
Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map - the key to a legendary treasure trove - 17-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.
More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.
In Daughter of the Pirate King, debut author Tricia Levenseller blends action, adventure, romance, and a little bit of magic into a thrilling YA pirate tale.

WOW!
Where does Daughter of the Pirate King rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is definitely in my top 10. It wasn't the sort of story that I couldn't stop listening to but I was always excited to start listening to it again. I usually don't write reviews but felt this book earned one!
What did you like best about this story?
What's not to like! Pirates, romance, adventure, and a super strong yet believable female protagonist!
What does Marisa Calin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
This is the first time I've listened to Marisa Calin and I will seek her out from now on. She is one of the best narrators ever. Her voices are perfect for all the characters and each character is different and recognizable. I can't say enough about how amazing she is!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This book was a good casual read. Very enjoyable but not so suspenseful that I had to finish it quickly.
Any additional comments?
If you like Pirates of the Caribbean you'll eat this book up.

Wow!
I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this book, as the pirate concept has been overdone to death. But...WOW! The author gave us just enough backstory on our heroine to keep the hook in
The story is told from the POV of Alosa, a fearless, witty, and self-assured young woman who knows who she is and makes no apologies. Though we occasionally get a glimpse of the tender heart lurking beneath her armor, the daughter of the Pirate King is a badass who allows herself to be captured by a band of cutthroat, rebel pirates determined to undermine her father. Throughout the book, Alosa proves that she is a force to be reckoned with, cowed by no man, including the King.
There were a few parts of the book that were a little repetitive, but I quickly got over that, as I began to really become part of Levenseller's world. The characters are deliciously complex, so that I was at war with myself over whether I liked ANY of them!
This is definitely worth the listen (I love Marisa Calin's accent), and I eagerly anticipate Book 2 - Daughter of the Siren Queen.

witty, awesome narrator, no corny dialog in site
This was definitely an unexpected treat. The select few who actually reads my reviews will understand that I'm as picky as they come especially when there is a hint of romance. The dialog sitting on the edge of a knife can be put off kilter with one cheesy confession. That being said, Daughter of a Pirate King was very enjoyable. I almost read it all in one sitting but was about to pass out from lack of sleep (not exaggerating).
Alosa, the main pirate, was a hoot to follow and as slippery as an eel. She had me roaring with laughter. Nothing seemed to faze her and absolutely nothing could take away her swanky attitude. Definitely didn't want her locked up on your ship or near anything nice and tidy that you wanted to keep that way haha. Jumping up and down on ______ clothes still sends me into laughing fits.
Although some of the story was a bit predictable the fun far outweighed any disappointment. Marisa Calin did a spectacular job narrating. Most female narrators make men's voices eye rolling weird or gruff but Marisa cadence was quite pleasant. And the author kept the dialog fun and light which made the whole experience refreshing. Especially after the 2 star reading week I've had.
It might annoy most but I love a slow burn relationship. Of course you get frustrated but it makes it more enjoyable and realistic in the end. The tricks and Banter between Alosa and Riden were hilarious. Probably the reason I couldn't put this down, waiting to see what they would come up with next. Also it was painfully obvious that Alosa was much more skilled than he, except of course, for shooting...... maybe. Ha I'll let them hash that one out. Though it's nice to see women being portrayed as much more than a pretty face. Alosa's entire crew was a testament to that.
Riden was a gentle character. Gruff at times but always looking beyond the mask. He was clever, noticing too much in Alosa. It made me like him more. That's the reason he could always bring her back, to remind her, because he knew who she really was. Alosa, as fierce as she may be, didn't seem to realize she had a heart until someone captured it. Squid face Riden aside (inside joke...giggle) they were perfect for one another.

Very bleh.
I went in with hope that this book would live up to the claim of "a female Jack Sparrow " but I was disappointed. The protagonist was constantly talking about how clever, smart, strong, powerful, and amazing she is but honestly all she really was is cocky. The romance was very forced and unbelievable. The dialogue felt very unnatural and even the action and adventure aspects of the story were lackluster at best. Don't even get me started on the ending. It was as if the author said aloud "well that's enough words for this one, better start on the next." It was abrupt and lacked any real build up. It's not the worst book I've ever read but I wish I could get those 7+ hours back. Save your credit. This one isn't worth it. The narrator was decent enough though.

This book was so fun to listen to! It was such an awesome adventure and I loved the characters! I can't wait to continue on with the story to find out what happens! I loved it! I haven't read a pirate story this good before and it really reminds me of the pirates of the Caribbean! Loved it
This story had just the right amount of girl power, romance and action. At first it seems a little unbelievable and ridiculous, but (without spoiling it), it makes sense in the end. The narrator was great without going over the top on pirate voices. A fun one to listen to.

Nice Adventure
I heard so many things about this book, some were praising it and others were bored with it.. I am kind of in between, I did enjoy the adventures of Alosa in the middle of a dangerous pirate ship and her struggle to complete her mission to gain her father's approval, but on the other hand Riden didn't charm me at all for some reason :/, he felt so weird and there was no connection between the two until the last moment
The story is about a girl named Alosa who is the daughter of the Pirate King ( hence the name of the book) when she embarks on a mission to find a piece of a treasure map that can be found in a pirate ship, so she stages her kidnapping and she is forced to endure all kind of stuff to complete her mission
let's see what will happen next
The narration was nice and appropriate for the book, but it could've been better

Amazing
I wasn’t sure about this book when I first got it but wanted something to listen to and I ended up loving it. I haven’t gone for anything like this before and it didn’t disappoint me. Some of the accents of characters I wasn’t sure about but it actually added to the story and made it more enjoyable to listen to. Overall I really loved this book and want to listen to much more like this in the future!

Easy enough to listen to.
An easy listen. Although at times the protagonist was naive to the point of stupid. This was demonstrated repeatedly throughout the novel, including telling her (love interest) captor all about her secret abilities within hearing of a spy. Then upon finding out this spy was not in her father's employ, she asked about her father's actual spy. Like what if her fathers spy was actually competent and they didn't know he was on the ship? - well too bad cause this stupid big mouthed 17 year old asked after you.
