Publisher's Summary

When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the Earth. George A. Romero's iconic film and novel terrified generations. Now Dawn of the Dead is back to terrify once more.

The world is being devastated by zombies. No one knows how far they have spread, or how to stop them. And as the living fight to save themselves, society collapses. Four people escape the chaos of downtown Philadelphia and find shelter in a shopping mall. As the survivors exhaust their greed and the undead scrape at the doors, the refuge becomes a prison.

And soon there will be nowhere left to hide....

The classic horror that inspired a genre: If you haven't heard this yet, you need to. If you have, you'll want to again.

Includes a brilliant and exclusive introduction from Simon Pegg.

Meh!

Any additional comments?

Love the film and boy can George Romero bring Zombies to life (See what I did there?) on the silver screen. Sadly his talent doesn’t stretch doing the same on paper.

If you like the film then this book is the film and not much else. There are much better zombie books out there but not many better zombie films so just watch the film and give this a body swerve unless you are trapped in your basement with the undead surrounding you and there isn’t anything else for you to do.

Awful.

This is the only audiobook that, after listening to, I was tempted to ask for a refund from Audible. It's shockingly badly written, at about the level you'd expect from a fifteen year old. The dialogue is repetitive and dull "Peter said... Roger said... Peter said...", the action sequences drearily recount every missed shot, then the one that hits, and then move to all the shots that miss the next zombie, and even Christopher Ragland (who I enjoyed listening to for World War Z) couldn't read it in a way that could possibly make it sound engaging.

Avoid, unless morbid curiosity compels you to see how bad a published book can actually be.

The story you know, playing out in your own mind

If you love Romero’s definitive movie Dawn Of the Dead, you’ll enjoy the audio book experience.

You’ll get to spend a few more shopping hours with Peter, Roger, Fran and Steve at the mall whilst society collapses and the walking dead take over the world.

The book doesn’t expand in the movie by adding or altering the scenes you probably first encountered on that blurry pirated VHS back in the very early 1980s. But it does give you a much deeper insight into what each of the four protagonists are thinking and feeling as they fight for survival and to protect their new found retail wonderland from zombies and raiders.

The performance is so engaging you could only make it more true to the movie by playing some campy jazz music as a backing track.

If you like the movie…

The books the same as the movie…loved it. My first date was in to the flicks to see the original. Late at night… scarey then scarey listening to it now. Just a cracking zombie book.

Comfort Reading

I don't understand the negative reviews here. This is a fun, comfortable book that adds to the story of the movie. No it's not incredible writing but it's certainly not particularly bad. What more do people expect? It's a fun book. Definitely worth a credit.
