Publisher's Summary

During the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, our financial infrastructure failed. Governments bailed out the very institutions that let the economy down. This episode spurred a serious rethink of our financial system.

In DeFi and the Future of Finance, Campbell R. Harvey, Ashwin Ramachandran, and Joey Santoro introduce the new world of decentralized finance. The book argues that the current financial landscape is ripe for disruption and we are seeing, in real time, the reinvention of finance.

The authors provide listeners with a clear assessment of the problems with the current financial system and how DeFi solves many of its issues. The essence of DeFi is that we interact with peers - there is no brick and mortar and all of the associated costs. Savings and lending are reinvented. Trading takes place with algorithms far removed from traditional brokerages.

The book conducts a deep dive on some of the most innovative protocols such as Uniswap and Compound. Many of the companies featured in the book you might not have heard of - however, you will in the future.

This is a textbook and not for entry level.

Hard to review this. It is the first book I feel is not suited for audio format. Imagine listening to someone read a calculus textbook to you. Incredibly dense content full of acronyms. Performance is dry, but the content is dry. Suitable for a graduate seminar in DeFi, not Simone interested in learning about it.

Lots of bias

Authors more interested in proving their ideological points. And BCE... Is that anything like BC?

Well done. It helps to know some finance

I do not have formal education in finance. I have a lot of informal reading and background in it. I am formally educated in business and law. My background made it easy to follow this. I see others had problems. These descriptions are clear and logical, almost mathematically so, though given in English.

Too complex for me on first read

Way over my head with a tangle of acronyms and jargon, but I now have a basis from which to build if i get a chance to listen again.
