It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Bad writing. Boring. Repetitive use of phrases. Could not hold my attention at all.
Worse narration. No. Just no. This is quite literally a woman reading a book and not “performed by”. So many mispronunciations and all monotone.
Cannot finish. I have it until halfway through “book 2” and was still insanely bored. The listener should not be bored when the characters are running for their lives.

The Narrator sounded like my mom
It seemed like a good story, couldn't get past the narrator. It seemed like my mom reading me a bedtime story. There was too much effort to make her voice seem intense. Couldn't get passed it. A better narrator could have made this story.

IT'S PRONOUNCED ROOF, NOT ROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG this one was BAD. I usually DON'T write a review on here, but there are SO many things wrong with this book!!! As you can see by the headline, this narrator does NOT know how to pronounce the word ROOF, and it wouldn't be too bad if she didn't say it at least 50 times!!!!! It's so blaringly "in your face', that you can't help but notice. Each time she said it, my ears bled a bit more!!!!! It's like she's trying to say "ruff" (like a dog), it's Crazy!!!!
Also, I'm a veteran. As such, the military inaccuracies are enough to make you want to bash your head against the wall.
1) Immediately promoting SGT's to CPT! So, Ya'll just bypassed the ENTIRE Chain of Command????
2) Saying that a SSG was the CO of the company?
3) Calling Enlisted by their 1st name, while still upholding rank for other personnel? Very inconsistent. Where they do THAT AT??
4) Narrator pronounced Camp Lejeune, as Camp "Le-Jarn!"
5) Referring to a Corporal as Captain!!!
I could go on, but I stopped reading at the beginning of book 3. I TRIED to like it, I truly did. But this one fell flat!

Great zompoc series!
Don’t listen to the bad reviews! I’ve listened to hundreds of zombie novels and this series is in my top ten. Arisen, Mountain Man, The Undead, AUD, The Remaining, Zombie Road etc are among my favorites. If you can get past a few things, repetitive phrases etc you will thoroughly enjoy all the books in this series. I suggest you start at the beginning with Texas and go from there. All of Derek Slatons work is connected.
Great series keep up the great work!

I wish I hadn't wasted a credit on this one
The stories were not terrible, but not great. There was so much potential, but much of it fell very short of its potential. A lot of it was pretty cheesy at times - no one makes bad jokes while fighting for their life, or watching someone else die. I liked some of the characters and could imagine them as real people, but others were so unrealistic they were ridiculous. The author uses some filthy language that takes away from the story because it was overkill. The narrator was awful, really awful. She was not the right pick for this series for sure. Monotone and her attempt at accents was not good. She became more monotone as the series went on too. The monotone was not nearly as bad as the bad accents though. The author overused the word "brethren" and the narrator mispronounced the word every time. There is no "breath" in "brethren".

Super Not Good
This is the screenplay for either a terrible B movie, some low budget syfi channel series, or something much more awful-er if that’s possible. I didn’t even make it an hour in. I tapped out when the newly promoted Master Sergeant to Captain….. encountered the first zombie. I’m retired Air Force so I was technically in the military and even I could tell the author does’t know jack about how things actually work outside of bad TV dramas. The narrator isn’t amazing either but not even R.C. Bray or John Lee could have saved this story.

Good Story, Toneless Narrator
The book itself is a different take on the zombie apocalypse which I always enjoy thoroughly, the writing itself can be a bit cringe inducing at times but other than that a good book.
My only complaint is the narrator herself, she has good grammar and pacing, but her tone is honestly very robotic in manner with little variation in her speech, with myself at times losing track of where I am while listening due to this.
