It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Story
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

Warriors come out to play!
It's a great story for any zombie lover. Think; Zombieland meets The Walking Dead. Hilarious tale of survivors because of their smart remarks, as they face their worst fears, human nature and really hard choices. Compared to the first three or four books in the series darkness before Dawn is not as gruesome but definitely shocking, exciting, new and inventive, strange, pulse pounding, nerve racking and will definitely keep you guessing what comes next.

Dear Lovers of Zombie fiction...
Any additional comments?
Dear lovers of zombie fiction,If you have not been keeping up with this series or have not been introduced to this series, you're really missing out.I freely admit that the first book in the series did take a little getting used to for me because I wasn't a huge fan of the narration at first. But I had read some of the books in the series before and wanted to remember them again to be able to continue forward with the series - nothing worse that forgetting everything about what you read in the past and not knowing where you are in the series. So by the second book, I was definitely invested and have been ever since. This series is super good. I mean it takes you on a roller coaster of not just emotions but just STORY and STORYTELLING which is fabulous when you're talking about a long span of books. It's never always predictable and while there is some "hero stuff" and hero like characters at times - that's ok because you can understand that the strong people with strong beliefs would be the people that would be leaders of groups, for as long as they're able to manage it.If you're looking over these reviews because you're not sure if you should give it a try, I encourage you to definitely give the first two a try because if you're not hooked by then, maybe they're not for you- but you're rewarded with a lot of entertainment if you stick with the series. I look forward to the next books in the series! I want to know how Billy is going to get out of his current dilemma and I want to know how Kevin and Aleah and their friends deal with their current situation (I can't give out spoilers but you KNOW what I mean if you've listened to the book.) These books make you want to know what happens next!

loving it....
T W Brown's Dead: Darkness Before Dawn is the eighth book in a series about a zombie apocalypse and different perspectives of it. Multiple perspectives, characters you either fall in love with or hate... but you better be careful because no one is safe and anyone can fall in this series. Loving every moment though. Who need The Walking Dead when I can read/listen to TW Brown's Dead series?!?
Narrator does a fantastic job bringing the story to life. Really brought the characters' personalities out. Love it!

Billy!!!! Juan, oh Juan....
What made the experience of listening to Dead: Darkness Before Dawn the most enjoyable?
I loved the whole thing!! this is the most awesome zombie series! I do have a bit of trouble adjusting between groups and remembering where they were at, but it doesn't take long before I am immersed in that story line of the book.
What did you like best about this story?
Billy, he is really starting to make decisions and trying to be the leader Kevin was, even though he knows he will never fully be able to replace Kevin, at least his heart and mind are going in the right direction.
Juan, oh Juan... whereforart though Juan!! I was in total shock with this whole line, never expected that to happen which made it that much better. Love it when I am shocked and dismayed and not knowing where the story is leading.
Dr Zahn... love her more as time goes on. there for a few in the last book I wasn't sure about her, but with this one I can understand her a bit more and would totally back her
Which scene was your favorite?
The children zombies and the staircase.... I was laughing knowing exactly what was being described with the game, and my jaw hit the floor when I realized what was really going on...
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes!!! it was too long to listen all in one sitting, but I wanted to know what was going to happen next... I can't wait to get into the next book and see where everything is leading too! completely awesome!
Any additional comments?
If you haven't listened to or read this series, DO IT NOW!!! this is totally worth every minute you read or listen!

Love the book sick of Kevin.I just want him to die already. I understand he is the leader but they are incapacitated without him.I guess me being a take charge type of person Im uncomfortable with leaving my fate to others. Even with that the story is great and keeps you wanting more.

Another good Dead book
What made the experience of listening to Dead: Darkness Before Dawn the most enjoyable?
The book was good but not top form, started to feel a bit like some was just added for filling rather than story.
Any additional comments?
Please narrator as an English man I have no idea where you get your British accents from please stop they are sooo bad..... Other than that this was another good dead book but i was wondering if the story is running out of ideas. Found it an enjoyable book but lacking any cohesive direction. When top characters were killed before it was wow but how can you keep this up.... wiping out half of a camp of people..... very anti-climatic.
Ended on a cliffhanger of course and will get the next book but hope the story goes on at a bit better pace as this stuttered a bit.

Really enjoyed this book series
I thought this series was really well written, it took on a number of different perspectives and followed a number of groups, which I really liked however after much feedback TW cut down on this which I thought was disappointing, he also re-wrote the first few books following just one group each, these are 'Dead perspectives', 'Dead Vignettes' and 'Dead Geeks' I believe, so if you find lots of groups difficult to keep up with you might prefer these. He decided to keep it to 12 books which is a shame as it felt like there was a lot more these storylines could have given us. TW doesn’t shy away from the horror of what could happen and there is a lot of differences between the groups (which is why I'm unsure what others found so difficult about it, if they were all very similar it would have been confusing and boring but they are very very varied which I loved) but he doesn’t go too far into realms you don’t want to wander into (like the Zombie Fallout series by Tufo). I liked that it followed zombies on occasion too as well as groups of survivors and he wasn't afraid to kill people off when their time was done. FYI typical bad British accents, so nothing new!
I like the spinoffs too, the 'Dead snapshots' are great, I like the attention to detail (the English one was pretty much on point re: lingo and culture) and I'm enjoying the new Dead series.
