Fascinating plot and well-developed characters
When I read one of Mr. Reid's captivating police novels, I go for the Audible versions because Steve Worsley's narrative are perfect. His accent sets the stage for a well-paced Scottish murder and some interesting local color and scenery. The police squad in the book are all believable and varied individuals and their back-stories just keep getting better. I especially love Mark, the big, lumbering DS who gets all the crap jobs and eats everything in sight. DCI Bone is a damaged detective with serious PTSD. He even gets visits from an apparition from the past crime that forever scars him The book includes family dramas and team interactions, office politics, and media interference but the murder mystery is a fascinating cold case set in an abandoned POW camp from WWII. As always, there are many viable suspects and in this book they are suddenly dropping like flies after all these years. And they don't die nicely. The book comes to a good conclusion. I can't wait for the next book to come out in Audible!

Wow!!!
Wow!!! I really enjoyed books 1 and 2, and I was looking forward to book 3. This one certainly didn't disappoint. I would say that I liked it even better than books 1 and 2, but I can't put my finger on exactly why. It was just so satisfying as a story with all the twists and turns and with how it wrapped up. As with the others, there's the perfect balance between little bits of sub-character side stories and action-packed suspense. I want more DCI Bone stories. I very much hope that it becomes a long series.

Sorry by I love these audios
So Bone is finally back to full health and back
To work this time on an historic case of quite a dark and nasty murder of a young boy presumed to have run away at the time of his difference. This is a more of the usual Bone falling out with his boss but he’s finally turning his life around and things are looking up and he’s determined to bring someone to justice for this crime before it’s too late. Roll on book 4 and a big shout out to Steve Worsley who’s narration I love.

Yay!! Bone is back and in fine fettle!
I really enjoyed this book and the author provides enough background so you don't have to have read the previous books to enjoy it. However, I would recommend doing so because you get to know the characters quirks which each book builds upon. Great story and full of twists and turns to keep you guessing right to the end. The characters are becoming firm favourites and the book is as much about them as it is the thriller element. I love Mullins' father's antics too and although there are alot of characters to keep track of you don't feel you're being left behind as they progress through the police procedural stuff. In essence it is solving a cold case but it triggers alot of new action. I can't wait for book 4.

Great Series
Enjoyed listening to the 3rd book in this series (read the others first)set in rural Scotland. I love a flawed cop tale and these characters are developing nicely. The story was fast paced and kept me hooked to the bitter end. The narrator is perfect and compliments the tale. It was indeed a nail bighting finish and I look forward to the next one.

Another excellent addition to the series
As per the other books in the series, this is another excellent listen helped along by terrific narration by Steve Worsley. With DCI Duncan Bone now in a remote location to help with his recovery from PTSD, a cold case is bought to his attention about which a terminally ill prisoner wishes to speak with him. This sparks investigations which lead to certain high profile individuals, though for various reasons the case is not easy to solve amidst plenty of twists and turns. The characters are continuing to develop and are very likable, and the touches of humour are especially welcome. Highly recommended. Mine was a review copy through The Book Club Audible Listeners group - the review is my own.

Another excellent read
This is the third book in the series and it does not disappoint! The story is very good but the way TG Reid writes is excellent. Listening to the book I can so visualise the scenes that I feel I am actually there myself. The characters are so down to earth and real. The only thing that bugged me a bit was about the prisoner who was suffering from pancreatic cancer and that he deserved such a painful end.
Having seen my dear late father die from this cruel disease I would not wish it on anyone….
Once again a big Thank You to the narrator Steve Worsley for bringing the story to life with his excellent narration.
Looking forward to the next book.

A Cold Case
Set in the lovely Campsie area DCI Bone is still on sick leave with PTSD, when a killer serving time, literally, tells him of a cold case approx 40yrs old. and will Bone take a look? You bet.
In the past, I have put DCI Bone on the insanity list but he seems a lot calmer these days and perhaps has a different outlook on life.
Are there cover-ups in this saga? it seems that no one was ever prepared to take responsibility and blame for years until now. We have the usual bunch, and each with their own problems especially Mullen but now his father is in care he can perhaps move on and they all still come together as a team.
I have enjoyed all of the DCI Bone's books and have noticed with this one the bad language has been somewhat curbed at best.
Again the narrator Steve Worsley did an excellent job.

Well worth the wait
Having read books 1 & 2, I cpuldnt wait to start book 3! I have to say this is probBly my favourite so far in the series!
DCI Bone is on sick leave recuperating from his longstanding PTSD, when Walker brings him a mesaage. A terminally ill prison inmate wants to share details on a cold case but he will only speak to Bone.
Can Bone unearth a 40 year old cold case with potential witness's mysteriously dying all while coping with his own inner demons?
A dark tale is contrasted with the familiar banter from Mullens and the rest of Bones team while they work to bring justice the the victims family.
Another winner from this brilliant author and wonderful narration. 5 stars from me and I will now eagerly await book 4!
