Publisher's Summary
Stone Barrington is back. Stuart Woods has created no better known or loved character than the ex-cop, Manhattan attorney, and investigator whose work treads the thin line between the respectable practice of law and the dark side of humanity.
In Dead in the Water, Stone has hardly arrived in St. Marks, a lovely Caribbean island nation, on a sailing vacation when something very strange happens: A beautiful young woman sails into the harbor, entirely alone on a large yacht. Before long she is under the intense scrutiny of the local authorities, in the very considerable person of Sir Winston Sutherland, the minister of justice. The problem is, though she arrived alone, she had departed the other side of the Atlantic in the company of her husband, a well-known writer, who is no longer in evidence.
Evidence is what fascinates Stone Barrington, and he is all that stands between the apparently innocent Allison Manning and the patently evil intent of Sir Winston, whose motives are unclear. What is clear is that the St. Marks system of justice bears little resemblance to the American courts to which Stone is accustomed and that his smallest error could prove fatal to his client.
Dead in the Water is a roller-coaster ride, teeming with the plot twists that have made the novels of Stuart Woods New York Times best sellers and international hits.

'Bout As Good As Stuart Woods Gets...'
Stone Barrington gives me my money's worth. He handles the twists in this story like a LeMans' driver. There are a bunch. Can't wait to download and start the next in this series. Tony Roberts is the gritty, educated, New York cop/lawyer voice of Barrington and can't imagine another. Unfortunately Roberts for all of his talent (and there's a bundle) doesn't do Caribbean accents convincingly so the listener's gotta' fill in those melodies. But that's a tiny point, this tale of wealth, political corruption and, of course, murder & trials is as perfectly crafted as the plots yachts.
OK, the 1970s setting is a trip back into obsolete technologies, but hey, I like historical whodunnits - and the time period isn't way beyond the memories of many readers - thnk of it as a travel into just how primitive our retro world can seem - a trip that adds even more flavor to this cool mystery plot.
Oh... BTW... The headline reads "Bout as good as Stuart Woods gets" - which is 'bout as good as anyone writing this stuff, maybe better?

The best Stuart Woods ever!
Why this book was not released until now I do not know ... What a great story.
Unlike his normal "fluff" pieces with a bit of mystery, this book has very many twists and turns. You think you have it figured out ... again, and again, and again ... Enjoy listening to this one!

Good story. Just ok performance
The narrator does a decent job, but he keeps changing accents in the middle of a conversation. I’m guessing he keeps taking breaks in the middle, and then when he picks it back up, he uses different accents. Makes it difficult to know who’s talking sometimes.

What a disappointment.
The plot is quite implausible. The multiple twists and turns are just thrown in there without regard to logic or necessity, The trial scenes are laughable. The ending is absurd.
I liked the first two books, but this one does not deserve to be revived --- let it stay in the nineties.
