Warhammer's most Heroic Coward!
I had stared at the Cain audiodramas for a few years before finally buying one. I love the Warhammer setting and I have to say I loved this story. Cain is a lazy self serving coward, but he's smart enough to know that sometimes it's in one's self interest to do what has to be done. It's just that he'll try every other option first. In a way it reminds me of Churchill's quote about America. And even though he tries everything to avoid it, when the chips are down, he is the hero people think he is. This tale starts with a bit of a mystery- some missing soldiers. And Cain reluctantly leading the search for them. His self serving style often catches people off guard, since they expect the more selfless hero. But he gets the job done. I loved the story so much I purchased his other audiodrama and his first three novels on Kindle and have already started on the third.

good writing, bad execution
Audio books are better when they aren't trying to be movies. a couple of speakers is fine, but can be distracting--but not a fan of sound effects in an audiobook, at all. it takes away from the scene my brain is forming from the words.
Toby Longworth is usually one of my favorite 40K narrators, but the extra sounds ruined it, IMO.

The previous tales of Kane was 8-12 hours long and just as good. But now for the full price of a monthly Audible subscription you get a little more than one hour. It’s all about bell’s and whistles, not content. It’s impossible to give this a good rating.

Great fun, ss any take of Cain Co....
BUT... Damnably short. I realise it's an audio drama, with actors and sound effects and production issues, beyond someone sitting in a studio reading the words.... But GW..... This one was more like an intro than a full story. I enjoyed it nonetheless.... But when I realised it was about to end..... I had to check my watch to make sure I hadn't slept through part of it!

Not what I was looking for
The series is great, but this is misleading as a one shot story is not a fifth book addition for its main story line. Also its so jarring having a new voice for Caiphus, not that the fella did a bad job, only that it is a different approach all together that is weird after 30 odd hours of the same guys voice who you've grown connected with, kinda like a 'is Pepsi okay' when you asked for a coffee.
