Publisher's Summary
Don't Miss the Original Series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Starring John Krasinski!
Tom Clancy delivers a #1 New York Times bestselling Jack Ryan novel that will remind readers why he is the acknowledged master of international intrigue and nonstop military action.
It is The Campus. Secretly created under the administration of President Jack Ryan, its sole purpose is to eliminate terrorists and those who protect them. Officially, it has no connection to the American government - a necessity in a time when those in power consider themselves above such arcane ideals as loyalty, justice, and right or wrong.
Now covert intelligence expert Jack Ryan Jr. and his compatriots at The Campus - joined by black ops warriors John Clark and “Ding” Chavez - have come up against their greatest foe: a sadistic killer known as the Emir. Mastermind of countless horrific attacks, the Emir has eluded capture by every law enforcement agency in the world. But his greatest devastation is yet to be unleashed as he plans a monumental strike at the heart of America.
On the trail of the Emir, Jack Ryan Jr. will find himself following in his legendary father’s footsteps on a manhunt that will take him and his allies across the globe, into the shadowy arenas of political gamesmanship, and back onto U.S. soil in a race to prevent the possible fall of the West....

Dead or nearly dead
Good golly, this book is boring. Clancy and Blackwood churn up adventure and take f o r e v e r to tell it. Every t is crossed, every i is double-dotted, events telegraphed and texted and carbon copy sent by carrier pigeon to make sure you get it. Lou Diamond Phillips is a fine narrator, but even he can't do anything with this sloggy mush.

Same great Clancey - Great narration
I've got every Tom Clancy book Audible has done, but they all suffer - BADLY - from Michael Pritchard's narration.
Lou Diamond Phillips does a superb job of performing this latest Clancy thriller.
Don't be deceived by thinking the Lou Diamond Phillips, the actor you see in movies and on TV is the extent of his dramatic range. He is absolutely wonderful at capturing the characters, accents, genders, etc in this Audiobook

Superb! More Clancy/LDP!
Lou Diamond Philips?! MORE! I've been a member of Audible since it started, and I can say this for the first time- "LDP reads this book to me better than I could read it to myself". LDP has played enough military and police roles in movies that he understands where TC is coming from (I'd love to see him in a movie as Ding Chavez!) I usually read the ebook first, and if it's good, listen to it on audible later while I'm driving or doing work around the house. I deleted the ebook this time!
I've read every Clancy book and have liked most of them. He has an undeniable style and finesse. I must caution you; if you're squeamish to the military or have a liberal bone in your body you should probably click away from this page with haste. As a veteran I can tell you that Clancy's books are realistic, right down to the thoughts and attitudes of the troops and analysts. This book was no exception. Welcome back Clancy, John, Chavez, and the Ryans, and 'well met' to the new players.
THIS IS A MUST LISTEN... MULTIPLE TIMES!

Book 5: Narrator 2
I am a long time Tom Clancy fan and waited expectantly for this book. The plot line is complicated due to the many different story lines that run concurrently...there is also some confusion at times, if you are not paying close attention, when 'Jack' is sometimes Jack Sr and sometimes Jack Jr.
The over all story line is not particularly inspired as it revolves around international and domestic terrorism and the continued action of the Rainbow special forces group. However, if you like this genre, you will be entertained.
I see others enjoyed Lou Diamond Phillips as the narrator and he does a very good job with accents> However, he uses a reading style like he is a TV golf announcer on the 18th green - kind of a whisper/talk voice...he seems to use whispers as a point of emphasis...whatever it was, I often found that many minutes had passed before I realized that I had not been listening...I ended up buying the hardcopy book.

Listening to the grass grow
Clancy fills the book with his idealogical political philosophy in an overly simplistic juvenile style continuing to browbeat the reader with it.
The antagonists, jihadists, are stereotyped nut jobs kicking every little dog that gets in their way.
More to the point, every character in the book and every locale is described in such detail that the forest is lost from the trees, the bark of which are brown, knurled, with lichen growing on one side, roots sticking out of the ground, one of which, the second longest, of the third largest tree would have made a great staff, that could have been wielded by a crusader wearing worn clothes from his many weeks on campaign with inadequate food that left him yearning for the likes of a Chipotle, except he might have died from botulism rather than the cold iron of his enemies sword that would have been made by a master sword maker who likely had not eaten enough that morning because the sword was not well balanced and showed the mark of Jamal, who was renowned for the poor quality of his workmanship, which is why his wife Fatima, did not have enough money to support her dying mother Alaya, making her just one more of the angry masses that wanted to see the infidels die.

Classic Clancy
Tom Clancy is at his most excellent - true to form on this book. Same old players chasing new, sneaky bad guys. You get detail without getting gore. The current headlines weave into the story with just enough scare to keep you reading. Ties all the ends together. Just a great book.

Great narration!
I got this book because of the 2 books for one credit offer. The other book was of interest and this was a settling book. I've never read or been a fan of Tom Clancy novels, but also didn't not like his style. It's just there's so many books in the world and so little time to read them. As a surprise, Lou Diamond Phillips narrated and did a great job. At some points I'd think, "This part is pretty taboo, but Phillips reads it wonderfully." The story has been told and is nothing special. All of the characters including the women are carbon copies of each other, and the style tries too hard to be PC. It was probably only a "Bestseller" because Clancy is famous. But if the character names were changed and an unknown writer were put on the cover page, I suspect no one would like or invest time in this book. Summary: Lots of patriotism, patriots fight terror, people say "damn" in every other sentence. The latter I only dislike due to the redundancy. If you're a Clancy fan and enjoy his carbon-copy character style, it's been-told-before plot, and redundancy issues than this book is right for you. But if you've never read a Clancy novel, this is probably not for you either.

The Ryan clan strike again
As usual an excellent book and well up to Clancy's standard. Each time you read his stories you can't wait for the sequel and this one is no different. The story line is very pertinent and credible in to-days situation and the action/reaction of politicians in the story seems to coincide with the actions of so many to-day. The question left hanging is will Jack Ryan regain the Presidency!

Disappointing
I'm giving it 3 stars because the narration was excellent however the story left something to be desired. If you're looking for a thriller with Jack Ryan (former President) you're out of luck. In this book he's more of a guest character popping up for a scene or two every now and again.
From starting off very well the plot takes a long time to develop. I found myself losing interest in the story which is sad because the I thought the idea was quite good and some of the characters quite interesting. All of the zing found in some of the previous books in the series is missing.
I found myself fast forwarding to get to the end. In the end I skipped about three hours and I doubt I missed anything important. I've read elsewhere that this book is around 950 pages, well they could have cut that by at least half and the book would have been better for it. This is not a Clancy book that I'll listen to again but then it's not really a Clancy book, it was 'co-written'.beta inappVoteInfo

Clancy Reinvigorated!
With these recent releases, Clancy has collaborated with other writers to bring a new series to life, following Jack Ryan Jr and his journey into the world of black ops, espionage and off the books wetwork.
The 3 books in this series so far are narrated with skill by Lou Diamond Phillips with his years of experience bringing these characters to life and making them instantly recognisable as the stories unfold.
This run of stories following the exploits of some old and some new characters under the guise of 'The Campus' are gripping and exciting. Any Clancy fan will enjoy them and am sure you'll agree that, with his collaborations, he has reinvigorated his storytelling.

Gripping Listening for any Clancy Fan
This story carries on the story of Jack Junior. The new Agency still in its infancy gets a couple of new well loved members, in a story line that leaves you physically hating an old Ryanverse character, brings you to the end of a story that leaves your ears wanting more of the same.
Superbly read by Lou Diamond Phillips, you will find yourself hoping that you get stuck in traffic or on the train just so you can listen to a bit more of this gripping adventure. The daily commute has become the most fun part of my working day!

Slow burn but comes together
A complex story line that came together nicely. Lou Diamond Phillips was terrific (minus the Australian accent). Recommended
