Publisher's Summary

It's been three long years since Deadbreak. That's what everyone's calling it - the day the dead rose. Every day since then, Jeremiah Reid has had one goal: to make his way back to his daughter. With his four-legged companion, Joe, Jeremiah has to travel a lawless wasteland teeming with zombies, bandits, and worse, like people who put anchovies on pizza (you know who you are).

It's a new world out there, and no one is safe. People are weary, cities are in ruin, supplies are scarce, and brains are on the menu. If he's going to have a chance, he'll need his wits, a little bit of luck, and lots of ammo.

One of the better books

Written very well. But be forewarned, there’s little break in the action. It’s a book that reads life like. People talking as they would, scenes unfolding without super powers...etc. Enjoyed it immensely. And it wraps up in one book. Although I would like to read another Jeremiah tale again.

the best of zombie genre without dumb Carl

the story reminds me of when I first started reading the walking dead but this is a lot better because it has a story arc and trajectory that intrigues the reader from beginning till the end and has some good comedy bits.

YES. AUTHOR AND NARRATOR WINNING COMBO

it's been awhile since I've done a review but I felt I had to.This audiobook was fantastic. the author did an absolutely amazing job writing the dialogue for the main character, and the narrator brought it to life. it's so seamless you dont dont realize for awhile that the main character is.... interesting you will have to read it. This is the diamond in the rough I've been looking for. my only con is there's no 2nd book :(

perfect balance of smart ass humor and zombie apocalypse.

A nice twist on an old tale.

Truly just a story of a regular guy with flaws and issues trying his best. I enjoyed that there was no contrived drama or situations created to give an example of the characters heroism. The story is well balanced with just enough humor to make you laugh when you need it. and the relationship of a man and his best friend was well played.

Weak Book

First, I must say that I have at least 60 audiobooks, and this book is my first review. That is how disappointed I was. I saw several nice reviews and so I decided to take a chance. Disappointing. Book has scene after scene of superficial, forced action. No depth and a sore lack of actual writing skill (ostentatious big words are often misused by the author, no ability to paint a scene, simply scene of conflict followed by scene of conflict). The main character waffles between absurd bravado (like he was written to fulfill an author's dream of being an alpha male while not being close to it in real life) and meek as a church mouse while in the presence of other "strong" characters. The protagonist feels like a caricature. And because the author does not seem to understand how details create tension, suspense, and pacing, the book is simply a series of battles, one after the other. The author didnt seem to know how to fill a book with the small touches that develop mood and setting, so his only recourse was to keep piling on scene after scene of conflict. No nuance; thus, it became a tiresome exercise to get to the end. This book feels like someone took a creative writing course and decided to write a book. Mechanical and insipid most of the time, downright obnoxious at worst.
To be fair, there are a couple jokes that landed pretty well, and the narrator is good. However, I heartily recommend Keith C Blackmore for contrast in how you write with suspense (First 3 Mountain Man books and all of 131 Days are excellent) and the Arisen series by Stephen Fuchs is pretty good but drags on too long.

I loved this book

I loved the characters, the dark humor, the storyline, and of course the genre.

I admire any writer that can mix humor and macabre storylines, and not be corny or cheesy. The narrator whom is a favorite was as always on point.

An entertaining story....

The story was entertaining and funny at times but the action was a little over the top and unbelievable. The narrator really pulled it all together. I wish he did more of the zombie apocalypse type books. His performance was right up there with R.C. Bray, Ray Porter and Sean Runnette. I even purchased another book narrated by him as a result!

My Favourite Book……… Ever!!

I don’t believe in a perfect score as nothing is perfect BUT this story is pretty close and does deserve 5 stars. I’ve listened to this book 4 times now and each time is great, The story that follows Jeremiah, Jenny and Joe is non stop action that’s filled with sad and heart warming moments but sprinkled with laugh out loud lines. I’m definitely waiting for a second book to continue the adventure! The narration by James Fouhey is outstanding and brings each and every character to life. This book is a must read/listen for a Zombie or post apocalyptic fan and this Audiobook will not let you down!!

addicted

A strangely charming protagonist. Absolutely nutts but in a good apocalyptic way. A bleak world with the worst of us, a heart broken man pushed beyond all limits for what makes us better, love

Unexpected fun

I like post apocalyptic stories and this is a good one. Well read, good voices, good tone. An easy enjoyable listen. Main character is believable and fun, baddies aren’t creepy and real. I’d read a sequel any day.

Pretty good

Plot keeps you on your through disaster after disaster.

At times I thought this sounded a lot like a video game and some of the dialogue was a touch corny but it always got itself back on track quickly. I will read more by this author. The protagonist is likeable enough and the supporting cast are pretty good too!
