Publisher's Summary

In the years after the Omnic Crisis, the American Southwest is ruled by vultures looking to profit off the chaos. The West is ripe for the taking, and Elizabeth Caledonia Ashe intends to write her name across it.

When Ashe is arrested yet again on the morning of her high school graduation, her aloof, old-money parents decide to disinherit her from the family fortune. To steal back what's rightfully hers, Ashe teams up with her omnic butler, B.O.B., and local ruffian Jesse McCree for a series of heists, catapulting the trio into a game of fast money and dangerous alliances. Along the way, Ashe discovers that family isn't just about blood. It's about the people who've got your back when your back's against the wall.

Full of high-octane chases and action-packed stand-offs, the second novel for Overwatch explores the founding of the Deadlock Gang and the origins of fan-favorite heroes Ashe and McCree. Don't miss this incredible, original story straight from the Overwatch game team and critically acclaimed author Lyndsay Ely.

Hidden Gem!! Ashe is such a compelling character!! I couldn’t put it down

PLEASE write a sequel! What a surprising GEM this story turned out to be, and Ashe is such an interesting character that my only criticism is that the story wasn’t even longer or that a sequel wasn’t immediately written. I’ve listened to a few books by Lyndsay Ely lately and though I enjoyed them all this was BY FAR my favorite! Jennifer Hales (Ashe) performance was wonderful! She voiced multiple (male/female) characters in such a distinguishable way that you felt each character had their own Voice Actors, and she would subtly change the tone/accent/volume when portraying Ashe’s thoughts to her speaking out loud. Out of the 33 Audiobooks I’ve listened to this year this is hands down my favorite one!

Great Story, Phenomenal Performance

Since this is a YA title, my expectations weren't very high, but as an Overwatch fan, I loved everything about this book. Ely's story, though often predictable, was extremely well-written - a great balance of character development, world-building, and exposition in a way that is accessible for younger readers, yet enjoyable for older folks. The pace of the novel may seem slow at times for people who might expect non-stop action, but only because Ely takes the time to really dive into Ashe's motives and struggles. As for the performance, Jennifer Hale absolutely knocks it out of the park. Despite being the voice actor for Ashe, she does a remarkable job giving all the other characters - including Jesse whose syrupy, ambling cowboy drawl is tough to duplicate - unique and dynamic voices, creating excellent immersion. I thoroughly enjoyed this title, and strongly recommend it to Overwatch fans of all ages.

Solid little Overwatch story

Defintely feels more aimed toward a younger audience. Ashe's actually voice actress is the narrator though, which was very cool. It gives some insight in how the Omnic crisis affected different people both positively and negatively, which is extra nice because the world building of Overwatch is normally very very VERY confusing. The bond between Ashe, Mccree and the gang feels genuine. The ending is pretty rough though, full of coincidences, conveniences, plot holes, and a bunch of dumb 'gotcha' moments. Another little nitpick is that the book doesn't really give us any shocking new info; Everything in here is stuff we already know or could reasonably infer.

Nothing spectacular, but worth picking up if you're an Overwatch fan, ESPECIALLY if you're a Mccree or Ashe main. You'll walk away loving them even more.

Bright and witty

Any time you get to hear Jennifer Hale read it is a real treat. She has the ability to bring each character to full vivid life.
The book is based on a game, and a multiplayer shooter at that, but it is so well written that I enjoyed on its own merits as a great story.

4 Star YA, made 5 Star by the Inimitable Jennifer Hale

Here is hoping that Ms. Hale does more and more audible readings. Asleep in A Sea Of Stars is her opus… so far. This is another fine example of her voice talents bridging the game and literary worlds.

Fun and easy listen

A fun Overwatch story. I enjoyed listening all the way though! It didn't move to quickly nor did it stay too long on any points. I had an easy grasp on whatever was happening the entire time and appreciate its simplicity without boring me. 11/10 would recommend.
