Publisher's Summary

September 1909, and Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, have been invited to Lord Riddlethorpe’s country estate for a week of motor racing and parties. They both agree that it sounds like a perfectly charming holiday. But when one of the drivers dies in a crash during the very first race, they discover that what seemed like an uncharacteristic error in judgement may have a more sinister explanation...

Closer investigation reveals that the driver’s car was sabotaged - and the driver murdered. The local constabulary are quick to dismiss the case, but Flo and Lady Hardcastle are determined to find out just who has committed this dastardly act, and why.

As the pair begin to make enquiries of Lord Riddlethorpe’s servants and guests, it seems that, below stairs and above, there is more to this case than meets the eye. And, even in the quiet of the countryside, death is always just around the bend.

I want to listen to another right away.

I am a big fan of the combination of this author and the narrator. I binge listen and an sad that there are no more for me to do gobble up. I so enjoy the the relationship between The Lady and her Maid. They are quite amusing. I am just sad that this is only the third of the books. I haven't found another cozy mystery that is anything close. would love a recommendation if anybody has

When will another one come out?! I can't wait!

T E Kinsey has really got something great going on. I'm huge into my Agatha C, my Sir Arthur C, my Nero W.....it's taken years of waiting, searching, waiting again to finally find a new author who writes interesting, fun, cozy, intriguing murder mysteries! Now I have found her and I wait on baited breath for the next one!!!! T E Kinsey cannot write fast enough to satisfy my desire to hear more of the adventures of Lady H and Flo!

Elizabeth Knowelden continues to surpass all expectations as a narrator. I prefer male narrators such as David Suchet or Hugh Fraser but Ms. Knowelden is superb ! I can't imagine a Lady H book read aloud by anyone else!! She is the voice of Flo! And of Lady H. To a T!!

Please please please write more, have them made into audiobooks and read by Ms. Knowelden! I have nothing else to read or listen too that is of the same caliber!!

Another Fantastic Addition to the Series!

Another fantastic, charming, and witty book in the Lady Hardscastle series. I tried to savor it and listen slowly but it's hard to because I enjoy TE Kinsey' s writing so much. I highly recommend this series to all my friends.

A great, little English mystery

Armstrong and Lady Hardcastle are at it again and fortunate for us, dead bodies are to be found. I do so love the chemistry between the two female leads. Though one is the "servant" and the other a Lady, the power hierarchy feels equal and unobtrusive in their daily lives when they're at home. Out in society is another matter and I found Armstrong's ability to navigate the upstairs and downstairs mores fascinating. Definitely worth the credit or even the money if you can't wait.

Waiting Impatiently for the next installment!

We've come to love these characters. The writer has done an excellent job of creating characters who are intriguing, endearing, lovable and are full of depth. We especially love the clever banter between Lady Hardcastle and Armstrong, her Ladies maid. These stories are an absolute joy.

I love the friendship of Flo & Hardcastle

I absolutely love the dynamic & friendship between Florence & Lady Hardcastle! They have such a wonderful friendship & banter, which is what makes this series so charming. I always love to see where the two will travel & what mystery they will uncover. This was my favorite of the books so far, as I felt like it had developed the characters very well. I felt invested in the new characters I met & really tense as I waited for the killer to strike again.
This series continues to be a favorite because of its wit, charm, Humor, mystery, intrigue & characters. It's the perfect blend of them all

The cosiest of mysteries with a favourite duo

Death Around the Bend is another garrulous adventure for Emily and Flo, as they bimble about countryside society sticking their noses everywhere they don't belong.

I can always rely on the Lady Hardcastle Mysteries to cheer me up, for nothing ever seems to fluster the amiable Emily Hardcastle and her loyal ladies maid. Having grown up in the circus, Lady Hardcastle's companion is useful for more than just repairing her gowns and arranging luncheon, which is especially beneficial given the pair's penchant for finding trouble. This time around we're treated to a traditional House Party murder-mystery, and not all the guests will make it through their country sojourn.

Packed with all the charm and humour of the previous books in the series, it didn't take me long to settle back into Kinsey's world and view the characters as old friends. The murders had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing for a while, and the conclusion - whilst not surprising - was satisfying.

The narrator, Elizabeth Knowelden, once again gave a lively and articulate performance. She handled the voices for all the characters very well especially given that there were several upper-class ladies and gentlemen of the same ages and backgrounds to try and make distinct, and neither muddled their voices in her reading nor left me confused over which who meant to be speaking.

I'd recommend this audiobook to everyone who thinks they would enjoy lighthearted cozy mysteries with a pinch of P. G. Wodehouse, and anyone who enjoys stories with humour, heart, and plenty of amateur sleuthing.

This series is getting better by the book

Would you listen to Death Around the Bend again? Why?
Absolutely, I'd listen to it again/ It's a great listen - amusing, entertaining, funny, well written, and well read.

What about Elizabeth Knowelden’s performance did you like?
Her reading flows well and there's a nice variation in the voicing of the different characters.

Another good yarn

This is the third book in the series and it is just as good as the first two. You get a real insight into life in a stately home both upstairs and downstairs. The relationship between the lady and her maid is both unexpected and ver funny. The way the plot is written and the final conclusions are very well done and it is not easy to work out who dunnit until the end. I like the fact there is no swearing, sex or violence so even my grandchildren could listen with me.

Fun

Fun and a light touch. The cloud though is the thought that all these happenings, care-free and light-heartedness and a belief in a world order that will last until the end of time will soon be shattered.

I guess the murderer and motive, but that did not deter or spoil the story which is as much about the sparring of maid and mistress as the rest. Characters and the country house party was still alive and well.

The narrator's lively voice added much to the brightness of the tale. Light but written with a deft touch. This is the third in this enjoyable series.

Really enjoyable

A really good mystery; really well worked out. Though that being said I did get some points before Lady Emily and Flo. I can certainly recommend these books, both audio and/or written. In this case the story is good, and Elizabeth Knowelden does an excellent job with the narration. I look forward to the next one.
