Excellent Suspense Thriller!
What did you love best about Love You to Death?
This is a great listen, and the first by Caroline Mitchell to really grab hold of me and relentlessly keep me interested. The first in a new Mitchell series featuring DS Ruby Preston, Shoreditch police are up against a truly villainous killer who preys on women who have long ago put a child up for adoption.
Who was your favorite character and why?
DS Preston walks the edge as a devoted cop with age-long tenuous ties to the criminal underworld, and deftly shows her struggle to play it straight while sometimes resorting to reaching out to gather intelligence from unsavory characters.
What does Emma Newman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Emma Newman's narration was pitch-perfect as she dealt with a wide range of characters and accents both male and female. Her narration lends much to the story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely, and I nearly did, without being toooo late for work!
Any additional comments?
I highly recommend this book. It's got everything great going for it as a psychological suspense novel as well as a fine mystery- wrong turns, grisly crimes, seedy underbelly and laudable cops, and a damn scary killer. I really liked it and look forward to more in this series!

OK But Slow Start
I bought this book because I love Truth and Lies by the same author but with a different narrator.
I have mixed feelings about this book. It was really ridiculous but it's also very entertaining, sort of like a bad movie that you love to hate. Lame dialogue. Half romance novel/half police procedural. There were no clues about the killer, and then the author just conveniently came up with him/her at the end. Having said all that, I was entertained. Ms. Newman's performance probably made this better than it actually is. I'll probably not move on to book 2 in the series.

Amazing storyline!!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! The narrator wasn't the best but it's hard to do anything bad to this story. It would pull you in no matter who is reading it to you! She wasn't a bad narrator but there are better.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Can you imagine….doing what you think it right and the best for a child, your child, and later that child comes looking for you with a twisted happily ever after dream?! That’s what this book essentially is about. There’s a lot going on in this book and we get introduced to a lot. I can’t wait for book two. I want more Ruby and Nathan!! I get excited for Mitchell’s books for a lot of reasons but her ability to make characters come alive is a gift, not just her main characters either, I want more of Eve, Worrow, Downes, and Cathy! You can tell everyone has some secrets behind their doors!
I really like when I get to know the people behind the story. Ruby sounds like she’s going to have a super interesting story and I like her love triangle. Both her options at love seem to be good choices, but of course, she wants the one that’s a bit more difficult. Life can never be easy, especially in a thriller! I was through this book in 3 days! I just gobbled it up.
Which scene was your favorite?
I pride myself on being able to pick out the murderer pretty quickly in books, but this book, I was never sure. I thought I knew who it was but it was only who Mitchell wanted me to think it was. This storyline is just superb!! I can tell you, you will NOT know the ending until you get there!! It’s a shocker!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES!! I've read the book but even reading the book you can't help but get into the audio book. I listened to this withing 4 days. It was great!!! I only took 1 star away from the performance because I felt like the narrator could have tried harder but that isn't on the book.
Any additional comments?
If you don't want to listen to the book you HAVE to read it!! It's such a good book!

So Bad I Couldn’t Finish It
Usually when a novel isn’t very well-written, I can get through it but then I don’t continue on in the series. This novel is so poorly crafted, I had to stop reading it early on.
The main character is not likable. She consistently lies and makes poor choices. Nothing about her is compelling.
The storyline is unoriginal and one-note.

Surprise Ending
It took a long time for me to get into this book. The narrator droned on, seemingly unable to do more than just read the words in the book. Perhaps a different narrator would have made this book easier to get into. Nonetheless, there finally came a point where I did not want to put the book down. I'm glad I kept listening because the ending was a complete surprise and actually made the book worthwhile. However, I will not be buying the sequels. With audible books, the same narrator usually does all the books in a series, and I do not look forward to listening to her again.

Slow start with a surprise ending.
Even though I enjoyed the book and narration, it could have been shorter. I didn't like that her ex didn't tell her that there were cameras in the apartment that he gave her. I understand that he didn't install them to watch her, but just felt a bit creepy.

Great novel. Nervous for series
This was an excellent thriller and kept you guessing until the very end. I’d like to continue the series but I see the author stopped at three books and started a new series. These characters are well developed and I’m worried if I continue, I will be disappointed. I hate when authors start a series as don’t close it out.

A Little Slow but Riveting All the Same!
Ever since I began reading Caroline Mitchell's books, I have always enjoyed each one. This is the first that it took me a little bit to get into the book. The narrator did a wonderful job, the story just moved a little slow for me, and it was a little difficult for me to become invested in the characters. So, it took me a long time to fully engage with this book. Once I did, though, it was on from there. The killer's motives were just amazing to me. she always kept my attention no matter what phase of the book I was in. I understood it, but at the same time, I just didn't get it. The characters were well developed, and I truly loved Jack Downs' character. He was great to me. Ruby is the main female character, and I think the author did an excellent job making her well-rounded with flaws and great attributes. Her counterpart Nathan is also quite flawed, but there's just something about him that makes me attracted to the man he is as he struggles throughout the book because he loves someone he can't have and Ruby struggles as well. there's this triangle along with the need to stop a rather diabolical killer. Then, all hell breaks loose. I thought I knew who the killer was and how the individual was getting away with it, and then, that became a moot point, as that person died, and I found out who it was. Let's just say, I wasn't expecting that. There were so many unexpected moments, as the book drew to a close and all I could do was sit there with my mouth hanging open in astonishment and continue reading. If I were one to bite my nails, I'm sure I wouldn't have any right now. I'm looking forward to the next installment. I'm sure it'll be just as good if not better. Caroline Mitchell is always surprising me.

An unforgettable, gripping and twisted tale by the deliciously talented Caroline Mitchell. Compelling and dark with wonderfully crafted characters, impeccably written with a captivating, unpredictable, explosive ending. Highly recommended reading for the crime genre lovers. Definitely one that will garner legions of fans and hopefully spawning a steady release of books featuring the brilliant Detective Ruby Preston. Death Note
Really enjoyed this book! I love something with a strong female lead and Ruby didn’t disappoint!
Now downloading the next in the series.
Only comment I would make is that the narrator leaves too long a gap between chapters, I kept thinking it had stopped, really irritating!

Great start to a series
Ruby Preston is a cop with a past (but then again, aren't they all?) but in her Caroline Mitchell has created a great multi-layered character. This is a dark, exciting crime thriller which held my attention throughout and I can't wait to listen to the next in the series.

Loved it.
Struggled with the narrator at the beginning but the story draws you in and doesn't disappoint.

Brilliant
Absolutely loved it. Twists and turns with a good storyline. Recommended to one and all. Love the Characters.
