Publisher's Summary

In Scotland, where thrift and a "nice set of dentures" are generally admired, dental surgeon Dr. Frederick Gilchrist’s cheap rates and penchant for pulling teeth have gained him a clientele.

However, wiser Highlanders (like Hamish Macbeth) opt to steer clear of this reputed womanizer’s all-too-busy hands. A blinding toothache sends Hamish Macbeth 120 miles out of Lochdubh to the infamous dentist’s door. Unfortunately for Hamish and Gilchrist, someone has canceled all the doctor’s appointments - permanently. Since everyone is pleased the dentist is deceased - patients, several harassed women, and even his wife - Macbeth faces one of the more biting challenges of his career.

A toothache can drive a man mad, and Hamish, with a mouth full of throbbing pain, decides to go after the killer alone.

Beaton is always a good read or listen

Always enjoyed this series. Makes me wish I could go there and enjoy this countryside. Reminds me of a Scottish Columbo, in the way the crimes are solved.

Narration Not Good

Although a little better than last book, the narration ruins the book. A high pitch girlie voice for me main character doesn't do it.

ok story, but the narration ruined it for me.

I am a HUGE fan of the Hamish Macbeth series. My fav narrator of this series is Graeme Malcolm. But I thought I'd give this title a listen even tho the narrator is Shaun Grindell.
This story was interesting but honestly the Scottish accent, (brogue?) was so exaggerated and cartoonish that I could not finish this book. The characters male voices were so high and ridiculous.
I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't.
I recommend all of the books narrated by Graeme Malcolm, his voice is like velvet.

Another Convoluted Mystery

Hamish nearly escapes having his tooth pulled out by a terrible dentist. When he arrives at the surgery, he finds the dentist dead in the examination chair. The story builds as Hamish meets an interesting lovely hiker who is a friend of Pricilla’s . She accompanies Hamish on the search for the dentist’s murderer. Good story and the perfect reader.

Narration almost impossible to listen to.

Story line was good but the choice to give Hamish the voice of a teen girl was awful!! So had to listen to I almost gave up. Isn’t someone in charge of listening before the book is released??

Narration

The narrator's Scottish accent comes and goes. Very annoying. Excellent story very well written as usual.

Hamish is Hamish

Another wonderful story in the series. Maybe one day Hamish and Priscilla will stop annoying one another inadvertently!
Blair is Blair and it is absolutely how, in his quiet way, Hamish manages to get to the right ending.
